All those draws in Jan and Feb would have created an intense debate whether it was good to keep the unbeaten run going or two points dropped.  

The feeling on the way home from Tranmere was so strange - we'd been thrashed but I'd seen a football god playing in the second tier and for little old Derby.

Anyway that's enough reminiscing. Let's create some more memories next week. COYR

When I was growing up they were on a par and slightly smaller than Matlock Town (they had a tremendous side in the mid 70’s). That’s probably where they will end up back. 

Happy Birthday @Ellafella 🍻 I have 5 years on you and grew up thinking we would be the Champions of England virtually every other year. I’ve seen the good times and bad since my first game in 1970 but still celebrate every win whether it’s 4-1 v Real Madrid or a 0-1 at Cambridge in League one. COYRS 🐏🐏🐏

Pompey fans assaulted a Barnsley player on the pitch and some pubs were looted on the night in Southsea, hopefully if we do get to celebrate we do it in style and not like idiots . 

Next season there will be no replays in the FA Cup from the First round onwards. Potentially financially devastating for non- league and poorly supported league clubs not being able to earn that money earning replay at a large club that could potentially keep it alive or bankroll it for a couple of seasons. 
Very poor from the FA in my opinion .

No coincidence this huge hike is it? Looking at the BBC article though, it seems very ad hoc around the ground, with no price band consistency. It’s almost like they don’t care about their fans; take it or leave us.

Anyone found complaining will find fire lighters on their doorstep ……

One last push please B4 for the next two games. Then you can have a rest until you get us promoted to the Prem next season , Premier league and FA Cup winners the season after then the Treble including winning the Champions League the following season.

We have had our fare share of injuries...do we in todays game play to many games for a club to suffer so many injuries...circa 50+

Way back in my day 60s n 70s players smoked, Drank ate a full English played on potato fields and didn't get the injuries we see today, Todays players are fitter, Leaner, Healthier, Play on pitches that you could play bowls on and are getting injuries that we never knew were in our legs 🤷‍♂️ 

We did get the injuries Alf , but we were patched up ( injected up in the Pros case ) and sent out to play as long as we could hobble. Hence why many of us limp rather than walk or like Roy Mac have raging arthritis . Some injuries now are different due to players being highly trained and bodies over loaded.

The fact is the league is the result of 48 games,  lasting 90mins over the course of nearly a year,  playing home and away, with the same rules every time.

As part of a sample that's quite comprehensive.

If it comes to the last day and the second placed team hit the post and also are denied a clear penalty,  meaning they only get 1 point. And you in third are given a goal which is offside and grab all 3 points, then that feels a massive swing of luck and/or deserved success.

So, over the course of the season you attempt to chart/categorise these... and I don't think you can. Because there are too many intangibles, too many 'possible chances', possible mistakes, too many occasions someone 'could' have been sent off...or are given a corner they shouldn't or a free kick that was debatable. Or played good teams when they had lots of injuries or had a new manager or lots of games in a short space of time or or or...

It's endless. So why try to compute it. There is a long enough sample time,  and at the end of it someone gets promoted and everyone knows the rules at the start of it. The 2 with the most points go up.

Would you take Clarke Harris (29) at Derby as a fourth choice striker for a squad option. A big physical presence who bags goals on a free. 
 

Fell out of favour with Peterborough as he wouldn’t sign a new contract but still has 13 goals and 3 assists in 38 appearances mostly from the bench. 
Averaging a goal every 154 minutes in the league. I’d certainly take him on a 1 year contract with a 1 year option.

Not sure , he has never done much in the Champ when played there. Not sure he fits Warne’s pressing game ?

Our Opponents:
The club was founded in 1912 as Abbey United, and took the name Cambridge United in 1951. Under Bill Leivers's stewardship they were crowned Southern League Premier Division champions in 1968–69 and 1969–70, which helped to secure their election into the Football League in 1970. 

Recent Form & Key Players:
Off the back off two absolute kickings from Reading, 4-0, then a 6-0 hammering from Lincoln, Cambridge were held 1-1 by Northampton before closing out March with a 2-0 loss away to Bolton. April has seen them draw at home to Charlton and lose by the odd goal to Blackpool, before showing better form in defeating Wigan 3-1 at home.

Top of the scoring charts sits Gassan Ahadme with 11, with Fejiri Okenabirhie next best with 9. Ellis Kachunga is next best having netted 6 times in 34 starts. Sully Kalkai tops the assists list with from Jack Lankester and George Thomas with 4 and 3 assists respectively.

Rams Match Squad:
Hard to get away from the 11 that started against Orient, given the resounding nature of the win and the style in which it was achieved. A buoyant Paul Warne confirmed in the post-match presser that everyone came through unscathed and it was interesting to hear him saying that we had more energy coming off a shorter break than was the case at Wycombe, where he felt we lacked energy, despite the 8 day break.

The injury picture remains murky and it’ll be interesting to see whether Gayle and Bird might be fit enough to make the matchday squad. I’ll not bother with my selected 11, as I always get it horribly wrong and the gaffer seems to be doing a decent job matching squads to opponents without our guidance. Instead, here’s the top of the table as it stands:

The Promotion Picture:
Some key fixtures tomorrow night, none more so than Bolton’s home game against Shrewsbury, whom we know to be a strong and obdurate side, though one lacking the Trotter’s class edge. I’d expect Bolton to take the points, but should Shrews grab an early lead, it could make for rather tougher game.

Oxford, fresh off the back of their 5 goal hammering of Posh play hosts to Lincoln City, whose charge towards the play-offs has faltered a little in most recently. It ought to be a tightly contested affair and to be honest, I’d not be surprised by any result.

The aforementioned Posh have what appears to be a routine task against lowly Fleetwood, but what will be the aftermath of their humbling at the hands of Oxford on Saturday. Might they have a hangover?

Perhaps the best tie of the round features champions-elect Portsmouth hosting Barnsley. A point will surely suffice for Pompey, but I expect them to win and win well en route to a thoroughly well-deserved title win. They’ve been excellent this season and this despite being one of the few clubs with comparable injury concerns to our beloved Rams. It'll be good to see them back where they belong after some very difficult years of their own.

Of the weekend ties, the most interesting involve Peterborough, who have a tricky away game at Bristol and Bolton host Port Vale. It seems odds on we will be going into the final week needing to beat Carlisle to be absolutely certain of promotion and I doubt too many Rams fans will be counting their chickens early! 

Final Thoughts:
A brief digression is in order to congratulate Eiran Cashin and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, both of whom made the EFL League 1 Team of the Year. Bit miffed that Ryan Nelson was overlooked to partner Cash at CB, as for me, he’s been top of the pops for us, but I doubt he’ll mind too much if we win come Saturday.

A last word as always to all Derby fans travelling to the game, safe journey to and fro, Rams and Ramettes and hopefully plenty of good stuff to chatter about on your way home. Honestly, I think our away support has been as good as any in the entire EFL this season and they’ll hopefully be rewarded with another complete and controlled performance as we ourselves edge closer to that vital 2nd place finish.

It's in our hands for now at least but since when did we ever do anything easily? I'm fully expecting more twists and turns and although we've won a lot of games this season we've also had several worrying random piss poor performances against the poorer teams in this division so absolutely nobody is taking anything for granted at this stage. We'll get there if we get there and I'll worry about celebrating then if we get over the line.

It might be 'just' a chance to get back in the Championship but I imagine that you'd have been cheering as loudly as the rest when Forest managed to haul themselves out of the 3rd tier. Unless they change the rules I think we're only allowed to get promoted one division at a time, so if we can see this through to a successful conclusion I'd be over the moon for now ta.

As for your lot, well it's still wide open. I've maintained that you have 3 worse teams than you and I still think you'll stay up but there are some huge games coming up. Your game at Everton looks massive, particularly when Luton are home to Brentford on the same day. Even if you are in trouble after that lot though, you still have the bottom 2 teams to play in your last 3 games. Club colours aside, it's actually been a genuinely interesting PL campaign at both ends but after last weekend it looks like advantage Man City and I don't expect them to need a 2nd invitation to take advantage.

Hopefully more points off when they lose their appeal 🤞🏼
