I think Arthur Cox was manager then, Gros played in virtually the whole season for the reserves in the season we won the central league (85-86 ?)

Yes Arthur was the Boss but Roy Mac was his assistant and was always badgering Gros to sign. Mac Really liked him as a player and bloke

I played with gaz,bob and ray Lewis at prims, Les Wright from prims also played for Derby reserves in the 70,s

in the 80,s borrowash Vics had some lads play for the reserves, Ian grostate and Paul turner and maybe some others, having been associated with prims since 1981 I don’t like saying good things about vics?

I played in same John Port School team as Gros. He was a year younger but best player. Roy Mac wanted him to sign for Derby but Gros wouldn’t give up the day job at the bank.

Ooohh Mark Wright! When he arrived at Derby we had been used to “head it or kick it” merchants who’s sole motivation was to just lump the ball somewhere …… anywhere …… then wait to see which team had got the ball when it made its way back down to terra firma! Suddenly we had a CB who every time he intercepted a pass or cross could get the ball to another Derby player! And he could stride majestically out of defence with the ball like Roy MacFarland in his prime!

However this “second coming” was not all that it was made out to be. He was with us from 1987 to 1991, playing 144 matches, and although he told us that he always looks for our scores, he actually hasn’t been near the club for over 30 years. He only came because two of his kids had nagged him and pestered him to come back. To slightly misquote Gotye “now you’re just a club that I used to know”.

Shame, because he is one of our greats.

    He played in Ted’s testimonial

It's a pity that the PL clubs didn't take more of an interest when clubs were breaking EFL FFP rules in order to get into the PL. More appropriate punishments like instant relegation two divisions would have nipped that right in the bud, but they refused to back up the EFL in pursuing meaningful sanctions. They basically let clubs sit over the other side of a very tall fence thumbing their noses and threatening the EFL with being dragged through the courts for years.

F'k 'em, they're the biggest part of the problem.

Shouldn’t be allowed to go up unless they can prove they are within FFP.

Don't like the Tractor tag they gave us.    Media some years back (Birmingham game if correct, early 2000's) labeled us with some slogan that depicts the team and fans as something of uneducated yokels and bumpkin farmhands.    It's a stupid stereotype that just kind of stuck over time.   Nobody goes around Ipswich in Tractors unless of course field work farm machinery, rightful rural communities etc.

That aside, I got no idea what will occur with this event.    Home advantage should favor the team but with us, nothing is as it seems.   We concede late goals often, if games ended at 80 minutes we'd most likely be already promoted now but got a clear propensity to allow opposition sides a goal in the closing minutes.    It's cost us league points, Cup progress and until it's properly addressed and eradicated I feel it's going to cost the team the ultimate prize by end of season.

Both us and Sheffield saw disappointing Cup exits just recent, if we can pay like we did against the best team in the Championship league above over two games then we'd have a great chance of promotion but it takes a whole lot more than that.    I don't know who Derby play this weekend.   All right it's crucial and relevant to ourselves and say Bolton and Plymouth also but concentrating right now on ourselves.  We have a job to do this weekend, it's a very important one, so nearest challengers can sit it out maybe until event is over.    We have to focus on Sheffield and little else , it's the primary issue right now you understand.

It’s Favour with a “U” in the homeland thank you.

We’re still here! My boss (I work there) got a phone call yesterday asking if we were still open. Despite nonsense rumours we will as usual be open from 11.30 am, and on match days we only let in ‘away’ fans to our pub! Plenty of lagers, pool, plus entertainment before the game with stunning exotic dancers from 12.30. The White Horse is on the main A40 West Wycombe Road , some parking, more nearby – about 25 minutes from the ground at a brisk walk – or we’ll call you a cab. No admission charge but no under 18’s!

    Lagers ? that’s me out
