No, a Barnsley win puts them both level with us, and worse goal differences.

But with a game in hand and the opportunity to go 3 points ahead of us.

Hopefully, this will dent Barnsley's confidence a little. Lately, everything has been going their way, but tonight they were 2 up and cruising, then fell back to earth.

Every Barnsley fan and player will be feeling gutted atm.

At no point tonight were they cruising. Bolton much the better team. Barnsley didn't impress in the slightest when we played them the other week and tonight has done nothing to change that.

Only saw last 15, it was like the Alamo.

Who would have a thunk it, teams with slender leads come under lots of pressure at the end of games, so its not just us.

I'll be honest and say that I don't see us beating Bolton based on their performance tonight.

So where’s the difference in that than say our performance on Tuesday where no one looked bothered either? Seems to be just picking one abject performance and using it to justify it. Many players have had shockers this season and still play the next game.

I didn't see Tuesday being down to lack of effort, just very sloppy play.

Fornahs performance against was Bradford was just complete lack of effort.

Can we at least criticise Warne for his handling of Fornah? Guy has shown a fair amount of promise and doesn’t get a look in. He’s actually here after this season too, which is a novelty in our midfield.

You can yes but that would completely overlook his appearance against Bradford where he showed zero interest in being on the pitch.

Turning speed and acceleration of an oil tanker - that one passage of play undoes all the good will his recent perfomances have generated....

There are going to be times when your defenders get outpaced, look at Cashin at Lincoln away. That's absolutely no excuse for Wildsmiths idiotic challenge.

As slow as he is, if you look at the still picture of the penalty decision, Bradley was back to cover Wildsmith.

I'd like to highlight the performance of the referee and his "barely there" assistants as a contributing factor in the team's collapse. In his last 4 games, he'd handed out 25 yellow cards and 3 red cards. Last night, he booked Bradley for his first foul (which wasn't either a professional foul or a reckless tackle) after Charlton had committed 6 fouls already iirc. After that, it felt like nothing short of GBH would get a Charlton in the book. Well, they certainly tried hard to live down to that standard, but the ref wasn't interested. His indifference to their thuggery certainly contributed to that second half performance because, unlike against Stevenage, the players were completely knocked out of their stride by these tactics. It all made me wonder if the ref had been told that he'd been too free and easy with the cards of late and accordingly took a more hands off approach.

Had no control of the game at any point. The players were basically just doing as they pleased.

When he was telling players where to take free kicks from they were just walking off.

Their player went down injured off the pitch, rolled back on and then walked 40 yards to the touchline, all while the referee just stood their watching.

My favourite though was the free kick he gave us for a late challenge on Nelson which he 100% did not see and only gave because of the crowds reaction.

I think if we pick maximum points from the next two home games we’ll be clear favourites for second spot.

We’ll have 10 games remaining, five at home and five away.

And we’ll have Bolton at home.

Reading and Blackpool at home won’t be easy. Nor will Pompey, Bristol Rovers and Wycombe away.

But of those 10 games, four are easy in Northampton, Cambridge, Carlisle and Leyton Orient.

Win the next two plus the four easy and that is the six of eight wins we probably need for promotion.

Leyton Orient are top of the form table over the last 10 games.

To be fair, I don’t think FFP existed when he was at Chelsea, so there was no incentive to fiddle with amortisation models.  Plus the club always claimed that it was the introduction of FRS102, which slightly tweaked reporting requirements, that sparked the change in our method.  Whether people choose to believe that may vary of course…

    Correct on both accounts!

Warne has made us a difficult team to beat but we are pretty woeful on the ball given the players at his disposal.  How many chances do we create from open play?  We've been bang average in possession for weeks now so I don't think there is a lot of credit to give to Warne for our attacking output.

Despite that we are 2 goals behind the top scorers in the division who just 8 weeks ago were the best team to ever visit Pride Park and certainties for promotion.

It looks like he spent 4 years as an auditor at KPMG, followed by 7 years as Head of Statutory Reporting at Chelsea prior to joining us as CFO. He only stepped up as CEO in 2018 after being on the board from 2017.

John Vicars was COO up until his retirement at the end of the 17/18 season. Sam Rush was CEO up until 2017. David Williams and John Kirkland were also on the board from 2017 to 2019. I wonder how much of a say Pearce actually had when he club opted to change amortisation policy and selling the stadium.

I know our auditor had definitely been doing his job longer than 4 years, so would have been just as qualified as Pearce for suggesting the change of amortisation.

Funny that Pearce never suggested it at Chelsea given their record on spending too.

That's good, can start referring to myself as highly qualified on here then.

Incorrect, it's the directors who decide the accounting policies ( which are clearly stated in the Financial Statements ), and it's the Auditors responsibilty to test these policies when forming their opinion as to whether the accounts show a "true and fair" view.

It would be entirely inappropriate to "come up" with a policy, and then audit it too, and would compromise their independence.

That doesn't mean that the accountants/auditors could not suggest new policies.

Recommending a fully compliant policy to a client is hardly compromising their independence.
