Driving to Derby and back (~200 miles) would cost me about £33 in fuel and say £5 parking.

Train fare (split tickets) off peak is ~£17 return, plus as much beer as my bladder can take.

Now we have four travelling with STs if we all go on train cost not viable. Only if just 2 of us but thats more usual for mid-week games and like you we cant get home after night match.  Also my mum is 80 so she prefers being chauffeured on a heated car seat!

Strikes are not the reason that the 'normal' rail service is rubbish though.

Since Covid, the government just paid the train operating companies a fixed amount to run the trains, so their income is now guaranteed whether the train is full or empty (the government now gets 100% of ticket sales revenue). Hence they don't really give a stuff about what service they provide. Avanti has been totally crap since they took over Virgin, but they still got a new contract.

It also makes me 'smile' when people suggest train drivers are out of order going on strike because (to paraphrase) 'they all on £65,000/year and are just greedy barstards'. What has salary got to do with the right to strike or not? MP's are on £86,500/year and I would trust the majority of those to tie their own shoelaces.

Strikes etc meant strikes and eng works - but strikes are what prevented us getting to the last two 3pm matches we wanted to use the train for particularly having 2 changes to Derby. It also makes me "smile" when a factual comment on why trains hadnt been used to get to a match with zero comment on the rights or wrongs of striking leads to rant to said poster

Being serious now I thought Sonny played very well yesterday and has been getting better and better by the week at Derby.

Back to the form he showed at Luton.
    Deserved MOM yesterday

That skill was sublime - didnt know what to call it on matchthread yesterday so just said "that little bit of skill"!!

think our tactics and formation had them in disarray at the start, their coaches were flying around the technical area with bits of paper trying to work out how they should set up. It was quite funny to watch. Their main coach, a Steve Evans lookalike but 12 stones lighter, never stopped shouting and organising  all game. Evans appeared every now and again to vent his spleen to the 4th official who did an excellent job to ignore him. It was as good a watch as the match itself.

This. We had fun watching the circus too. Evans was like a cuckoo clock how he "popped" out to express outrage. The younger one wasnt much better. The melodramatic outrage was hilarious. Assume you are in West just behind where they were too?

I will try and clarify it for you. We currently are
4th luckiest in the league on this (xG vs actual)
5th luckest in the league on this (same metric)
5th or 6th luckiest in the league on xG points vs actual (-7 excluding today, same source)

    By my database
Chances to goals scored (3.09, avg 3.72) is as lucky as it gets after 33 games
Chances to goals conceded (4.17) is luckier than 72% of teams
The two combined (1.08) is luckier than 86% of teams - for reference last season was quite unlucky and this was only 0.38 against
Finally on results we are 8 points better off, this is luckier than 88% of teams

And that just proves such stats are pointless😂

  6. Collins injury only confirmed Weds. Must have been a huge blow while preparing for this. Exactly the usual sort of match we lose. Always. So in circumstances will take that. Regroup in the week and off we go. Got the win with certain players not at their best. Today showed just how hard Collins works where those gaps were.
Bradley really stepped up today and that little bit of skill about 65 mins in was majestic.
But final word for Sibley - he's had a difficult time and I dont think I've ever been so pleased for a player to get a winner. 👏👏👏👏

We knew TJJ had a poor injury record. We knew Waghorn and Washington were/are injured and are older players with histories of muscle injuries. We loaned Browne out...

It isn't unfortunate. It's either poor planning or lack of implementation. I'm all for praising our great club when deserved but this was a big error from the club. Can't change it now but don't pretend it wasn't a mistake (not you, the club themselves).

Everyone going on about Jan window but the biggest error was Wags/Wash in summer - nothing against either in particular but how could anyone really be excited by their signings?

Another positive from yesterday was the added entertainment !!

No sadly I do not mean the football, but the WWE style multiple grappling and head locks seen at every corner.

I think yesterday was the 'best' we have seen yet and totally unpunished !!

Yep even when the ref was specifically and obviously watching it. Their two players reinforced the stereotype of a league 1 defender making it even more annoying that one of them could possibly score

This should really be on another forum but if someone isn't deriving any enjoyment from participating in an activity then there is a solution before it affects your mental wellbeing.

Imagine going to watch Derby as a way of escaping the 9 to 5 grind and it's actually bringing you down more which defeats the purpose.

Why not try to focus on the positives - we're second in the league.

When you have a season ticket you keep going but many times this season after leaving by 11 and getting back at 8 even when winning it has felt like a slog. After the effort and expense involved think fans can discuss the negatives as much as they like as long as they are not vicious to staff or players personally.

Are you really saying you get back from a game and feel uplifted focussing just on the positives? Yesterday was an opportunity missed against a poor side with 2 henchmen at the back who should have been torn apart. If we get promoted we will scrape it

Thought the game was going to be a tough watch before I headed off in the morning , we always struggle against team who turn up with 11 wwf wrestlers unless we have a decent ref who stamps on it early to allow a game of football to break out , which rarely happens , reffing is very very poor in league 1🤷🏻‍♂️,

biggest gripe is we really needed to get right after them when we went 1-0 up , raise the tempo and raise the fans , our players just don’t seem to have that in them and I’m not putting that down to warne , apparently he showed them how results were going for us at half time and I kinda think if he lied and said we were losing ground we would have won , we have a team that seems capable of opening doors but not storming through them once open ,

Irritating as duck yesterday but we move on to the next game 🤷🏻‍♂️

Agree with all of that apart from the feeling on heading off - we had good vibes yesterday 🙄

I did think that "big day out" wanting to perform bringing almost the whole home crowd aspect would have settled down this year.  You'd think they had qualified for Champions League yesterday. Just so fed up as to where we are. Group of big men aged about 16 with glassy eyes with their police escort in car park after match certainly thought so.

Just would love us to go up in a joyous exciting way. Not going to happen is it. Would love to know what Mr Clowes really thinks

What really narked me about the post match interview again is the old having to worry about the opposition. Does he realise it was derby county vs Shrewsbury and not Rotherham b vs shrews. We are second in the brimming league shouldn’t it be the opposition that worry about us. Stop making us mentally into an under dog team and start taking the game to the opposition

Yes the overfamiliarity/pals act regards the last 2 matches/managers has been annoying. Its not life and death obviously but not a get together with mates either esp good old "shrews"

Apparently a lot of fans weren't bothered when we didn't sign a striker and are happy for us to put Barks up there.  A player that couldn't hit a barn door.

Cannot believe that a team that look so devoid of ideas going forward can get promoted.  Been a season completely lacking in entertainment or excitement for me.   Was more enjoyable last season and I never thought I'd be saying that.

You've now reminded me of that Barks shot (?) 😂😂
