  1. Is there any part of the club rumoured to be working competently at all? Surely something must be working right or being done professionally? The whole thing seems very strange. I am not entirely sure what has happened this summer but if some on here can find decent young players available on a free then surely someone employed to do should be able to manage it? Hopefully it will all come good and we will have the next David Langan and Gerry Daly soon.

On Sunday Derbyshire Disabled CC are playing Warwickshire in the Midlands Final at Melbourne CC at 1pm.

I will be managing, captaining and keeping badly.

We are massive underdogs but all spectators are welcome. (they have a bar and a viewing balcony)

Otherwise engaged but good luck 👍

The good news, 4 wickets for Pat Brown who bowled well, unfortunately had his figures slightly spoiled by Suranga Lakmal having a bit of a number 11 swing and getting 14 runs.

I enjoyed Lakmal’s innings. Just needed 6 more overs of it 😂

I find the cricket less stressful than football. No expectations, sunshine and beers 🍺

One day the city of Derby will see some sort of sporting success! One day.

  4. I miss Curtis Davies. Not the footballer any more, although he would fit in perfectly, but the leader and the man. If there were dressing room problems he would act as a conduit and would help sort it out. If there was a disconnect between players and manager the same thing would apply. If there weren’t any off field issues he would be on the radio talking directly to the fans, reminding us where we had come from and promising to sort it out. And he would be trusted and believed.

I don’t know about these rumours but I wonder if they would be surfacing and wonder if the players would look so dispirited at the start of the season if Curtis was still there.

I am now going to think about his goal against Reading and the Birmingham match to raise morale.

I’d be asking the EFL if they’ll allow us to spend some of the money before we say yes

Maybe we could spend it on a loan fee for Tony Springett?

The whole thing seems so depressing at the moment. The timing of this is certainly interesting.

    Oxford fan coming in peace.

This thread has been quite some read and you are rightly concerned that you’ve lost to lowly Oxford. But, let me try and calm your concerns and correct some comments.

Yes, we finished 2 points clear of relegation and as one of your contributors said we’d only won 3 games in 7 months. But to put that into perspective, we had Karl Robinson as our “manager” last season until he was sacked. After 5 seasons we eventually got rid of  him. He had some good games, we got to the playoff final and lost to Wycombe, perhaps the least deserving team to get promoted, their brand of footy was truly awful. The following season we lost in the playoff semifinal to Blackpool, we got thumped at home, game over. We then followed that with 8th.

He got the sack after picking up 1 point in 24, the board should’ve acted sooner because he had his mind on other things. His marriage had collapsed, but if you shag the women’s team captain what do you expect. His signings, were a disaster. He gave contract extensions to injured players. Signed players with known mental health issues, signed more crocks and brought in square pegs for round holes. He also signed big Sam’s grandson, not on merit.  His post match comments were those of a scouce smack-head who’d just found a bottle of LSD.  We’d watched United get annihilated and he’d be talking about Brazil, the rainforest and samba bands.

In came Liam Manning and Chris Hogg… who?  Manning got MK into the L1 playoffs which they lost and got the push from MK after a bad run.

He came in and picked up 11 points to keep us up, instilling some grit and professionalism.

During the close season, he’s brought in 8 new players, some of whom we have been shocked we’d signed. Ruben Rodrigues from Notts Country, Mark Harris from Cardiff, on loan Stan Mills from Everton and James Beadle from Brighton.
We had PSF against Swansea 2-2 then beat QPR 5-0.

First game of the season was a 2-0 away defeat to Cambridge and our forum was similar to this thread. However a 1-0 win against Carlisle and last night has completely changed the outlook. As many people say, give it 10 games, then start judging. New players in, old ones out, injured players back etc.

I can understand your pain, but I think we’ll be top 10 this year, we are playing free flowing footy. You are hamstrung by past crimes and until you can spend you’ll be stuck in this league, but once sanctions are lifted, 25,000 customers is going to give you plenty of buying power.

Good luck for the season, especially against, Wigan, Reading and Bolton.

Interesting post - is Karl Robinson still available? 😂

Not really the right thread, but I noticed Clowes has appointed his son as MD of Clowes Developments,  presumably so he can be more hands on at DCFC?

So, I would expect him to be around more.

Do the players still get Wednesday off when there's been a Tuesday night match, Trav?

Rookie mistake - surely his son should be chief scout. It’s the Derby way.

Once upon a time, playing a back five would involve 3 centre halves and wing backs who would take it in turns to go forward so that the defence always had cover (or else the holding midfielder would drop back to fill a wide position when the wing back was charging forward) - Warne's version seems to have both wing-backs permanently stationed in the opposition half and the DM running aropund like a headless chicken - at one point last night, Fozzy was our most advanced player (by a long way) - I don't get what he's trying to achieve...

I don’t think you are on your own there.

Who's even available if we were to get rid? Apart from Moore?

    Lee Carsley?

I would rather Paul Warne turned into a competent football manager who played the formation best suited to our players, played round pegs in round holes, drilled the team tactically so all knew what we were doing on and off the ball and showed signs that he was building a progressive team playing attractive football. That is clearly the best option because we can’t afford to sack them all but if this continues can’t afford not to.

I feel sorry for Clowes but a 4 year contract is not looking like a good move is it. Pretty sure we are all feeling terrible this morning - imagine how he’s feeling.

  10. Very underwhelming isn’t he. I expected a leader after his signing interview but instead we have a disinterested mouse stood behind a rabbit staring into the headlights. Looks like his legs are gone to me. Their big number 5 - that was what I expected, and hoped, Bradley to be.

5 defensive signings and our best defence is still probably Smith, Foz, Cashin and Sibley. Dear oh dear.

The thing is, you can't expect opposition teams to just do what you'd like them them to do, because they'll always be trying to do things you you don't want them to do..............................

Not true from an Oxford perspective though. Their opponents did exactly what they wanted them to do - kick the ball to their number 5’s head at every opportunity.

  12. I know many are criticising Warne tonight but he must have something about him to manage to sign two centre halves worse than Claude Davis because I didn’t actually think that was possible but he appears to have pulled it off.

Four at the back on Saturday please. It was obvious last season and it is obvious to all this season. The lack of organisation, pattern of play and tactics is quite frankly embarrassing and how far backwards we have gone is shocking. That was the worst I have seen since that Sunderland 5-0 in the rain and to be honest, reminiscent of it as well as the Phil Brown glory years. At least it was nice weather tonight.

Hopefully not by the Clubs we offer good prices to ourselves.

I think there are usually reciprocal agreements in place where prices are more modest, but we will see!

I hope there are reciprocal agreements in place, otherwise we aren’t really helping ourselves are we. Other clubs fill their boots when we are in town and we make a pittance affecting our budget. Look at tonight - 1000 away fans at £16. Charge them £25, still reasonable, and that’s another £9000. Extrapolated over a season and could be another player’s wages? I know it’s not quite that simple but think of the additional income Bolton will be making charging 5000 Derby fans £10 more than they should. Fine margins. If money is as tight as is being indicated can we afford to take the moral high ground on away ticket prices, despite how laudable it is and how much we all agree with it.

Personally I think ticket prices should be reasonable so applaud us but would only do it if it was a reciprocal arrangement is in place.
