You have to ask yourself: what will be different in 2024 or 2026?

My gut feeling is another coach deserves a chance now.

I think someone else could come in and build upon the good work Southgate has done and maybe find a way to give us an edge.

The worst thing Southgate could do is overstay his welcome.

Southgate should stay as long as he feels he still has the energy for it of course.

I think this team is special. We may not have the silverware to prove it but I honestly do believe it is coming.

We have come so far as a nation under Southgate. From 2016 to now is honestly night and day. I have seen England evolve over his tenure from tournament to tournament. We are now at a point where we consistently make it to the latter stages of tournaments and tonight proved we can go toe to toe with the best in the world.

Bringing a supposedly 'world class coach to get it over the line' sounds all good but what's to guarantee they can get us into this position in the first place. We have been here before with England managers

Don't try and fix something that isn't broken. We are so close.

It depends how you look at it. When we behind we played very positive but when we were level we gave France the ball too much. That’s the difference between winning and losing.

Not sure, I thought when it was 1-1 we were really pushing for the second and looked the more likely before the Giroud header

Thought it was the tale of the strikers tonight, Giroud got the luck on his header and Kane lost his composure in that second penalty. Was always gonna be the toughest game for us and was always going to be the toughest game for France.

Fine margins and a good game. We are so close to being a real top side and theres lots of positives to take, we just came across a side that produced two bits of top, top quality. We miss a bit of ‘blockbuster’ which France has in abundance and it just gave them enough to get past us.

    Fair analysis.

Didnt say we weren't. Said we choked under the pressure. Whuch we did. Again. Can't beat the big teams. Doesn't matter how well you play if we lose.

We did choke under the pressure. Harry Kane - mr reliable blasted his penalty well over the bar. That is the very definition of choking under pressure. And Southgate chokes with every decision he makes.

And sorry i don't believe in stuff like luck, ghost stories, the tooth fairy, etc. It is England being unable to cope with the big games, which has been the case in every single tournament ive seen them play in during my lifetime.

Harry Kane's missed penalty was surprising but it happens. I don't think as a team we 'bottled it' or 'choked under pressure' because that would mean we played within ourselves, we didn't. We played well, were the better side. The fact that we lost against a good team doesn't have to mean we bottled it.

We will never learn too negative. Southgate out get a manager to play exciting football.

In what way have we been negative this tournament? France have literally played more negative football than us.

I have to disagree on two points. It wasn’t 50:50 we were the better side (IMO). It also wasn’t down to luck. Luck is when something happens that is outside the control of either you or your opponent. For example, the coffee cup incident.

The bottom line is, we were the better team but sadly failed to convert our chances especially the guilt edged missed penalty.

It was a 50/50 game going into the game. We were the better side for most of it. We were unlucky because the referee was a joke all game, even had to be covinced by VAR to give the penalty. Fine margins. This is the best England side for some time for so many reasons.

Agreed. Not a bad performance tonight, arguably hard done by but we're again beaten by the first decent team we come up against and all so predictable, story of pretty much every England tournament. And in those key moments that define winners, we bottle it (2nd peno tonight) and the opposition doesn't.

Except it isn't the same story. Yes we didn't win but we have come so far as a team. We had France on the ropes tonight. Never would we have done that before. Unlucky today. That's football.

We're good at beating teams like Wales and Iran, but as soon as we come up against another quality team we choke under the pressure and lose virtually every single time.

I just hope that we can get ourselves a new manager now that isnt an FA yes man.

We didn't 'choke under the pressure.' We gave everything and were just unlucky. A 50/50 game that we lost. It happens.

As the decision happened outside the box, VAR couldn’t then instruct to award a free-kick. It was play on.

Saka is either being fouled all over the shop or he is going down too softly.

    The ref isn’t giving anything.

England need to get more physical.

Come on they've been hacking us down all over the park and the referee hasn't done anything. As soon as one of the French go down the game is stopped for two minutes.

Is Danny Murphy ok? This will have hit him hard.

Harder than he gets watching Neymar roll around

Don't get why some people are devastated that Brazil are out. You're not from Brazil. I couldn't care less. My only concern is England. If England go out then I don't care who wins it. If anything, I'm supporting the underdog.
