Feeling really optimistic. I’d be astounded if we don’t make at least the playoffs, then we’d have as good a chance as anyone, however I think we could even sneak top 2, think Plymouth will come back towards us and we’ll be battling the wendies for the second spot behind Ipswich.

I also think Ipswich Wednesday Plymouth and Derby would all comfortably survive in the championship so wouldn’t expect a relegation battle when we’re back there.

I think we can be battling it out with those three at the top. They're good teams but by no means are they unbeatable. Once we're in our groove we're as good as anything in this league. We have a good group of players and the thing we have over the others is that we have a manager who knows how to get it done.

I don’t know what the stats are for Div 1 , but 3rd place doesn’t seem to give you any advantage in the play offs. What does concern me is that for years now , our form after Xmas has been poor . Can’t be a curse , must be down to bad January signings.

It happened a few times in the height of the mel era but that's it. Cocu's first season we were miles better after Christmas than we were before it. I think it's a bit of a myth really and has no bearing on the current team.

I'm very optimistic about our promotion chances. The team has improved as the season has gone on and I expect us to continue doing that. You look at some of the losses and draws we've had so far and you think we can definitely iron them out.

I think the realistic expectation is playoffs. This team is definitely capable of that. If we do it we've had a good season. But I wouldn't write off automatic promotion. It will be tough of course but we have to believe we can chase them down.

I'm assuming Knighty is gone. His body language when he assisted the goal, waving his fist at the South Stand and holding his head in his hands after he missed that chance....I got the feeling he was desperate to score for the fans.

His applause at the end of the game seemed a farewell. I get the impression he doesn't really want to go but the club have probably accepted a decent offer for him and he will be getting a huge pay rise.

Hope I'm wrong, but if not, I wish him all the best and hope he has a great career. He's always given everything in every game he's ever played for us.

I'll be gutted to see him go but the fact is he really is too good to be in League 1. I just hope he goes to a club I don't hate!

Nah I think you're reading into it too much. While it's certainly a possibility, I'd be surprised if we sell Knight. Paul Warne seems to like him.

A possible replacement for Gareth?   Pochettino

    I don't get this one.

Firstly, he will want to get back into club management.

Secondly he's Argentinian, why would he want the England job?

And finally, why do people want Southgate out? 'Because he will never get us over the line to win trophies.' Okay so I know what we should do, we should appoint Pochettino, that bloke who has never won anything.

The people who criticsed Poch for not winning any trophies are the same people now wanting him to be England manager in place of Southgate so we can 'get over the line' and win trophies. Honestly baffling.

The only thing that he will do is probably get us playing better football. But that's it.

I thought it was time for him to leave going into this tournament. I thought he'll step away and that's for the best.

You'd think after going out in the Quarter Finals I'd stand firm on that but I've actually seen a lot of progression in his style and what he brings to the setup. I think we could do a lot worse.

It sort of reminds me of Arsenal with Arsene Wenger (I know, nowhere near the same level of success but just stick with me). The talk was never about sacking him, there was a large section of the fans who felt he should "do the decent thing" and step into a role upstairs.

When you look back on that, you can see what they lost when he did go.

This England side are good, but I don't really think we're littered with generational talents like the French or the Brazilians. And the world class talent we have are young but they have performed well under Southgate. Let's not forget we're relying on the likes of Walker, Shaw, Maguire, Henderson. Top players no doubt who have done well but they're not really in the top echelon

We were the better side but if I had to pick a combined England and France XI, I can't say there's many England players that would make it in.

    Lloris

    Kounde/Varane/Stones/Hernandez

    Tchouameni Rice Bellingham

    Mbappe Griezmann

    Kane (although close with Giroud)

And not forgetting that doesn't include injured players like Benzema or Kante who would push out Kane and Rice

Exactly so why do people think we have a god given right to be winning things? We have a great set of players but so do other teams. Only one team can win the trophy. We've had better squads in the past but did nothing. Southgate has done a good job and has brought this team so far.

And although most on here say that England were the better team, I reckon there was a major difference between the two teams. When England got the ball, especially after they stopped faffing around at the back, the player virtually always had to stop the ball and control it before thinking what to do with it, so our build up play was ponderous for most of the time. France on the other hand were able to see the pass before the ball arrived, and pinged it around the team. We are capable of one-touch, zipping the ball around with pace, but chose to not do it, probably on the basis that there is an element of risk involved, which Safegate won't countenance. And that was the difference. France seemed to have better individual players who were more comfortable on the ball, even though our endeavour meant we were more of a threat in the second half. If only ...................

They were able to zip the ball about quickly because they were counter attacking us most of the time. France barely had any sustained pressure, both of their goals were against the run of play and came out of nowhere.
