No you are right but we can discuss the past.

IF we haven't put in a genuine promotion challenge at the end of this season I would have a look at Warburton.  If we are spunki... I mean spending... millions a year on a cat 1 academy why not appoint a manager with a track record of bringing through young and academy players.   He's also left his coaching role to look for a manager's job.

If not him then maybe look outside the box rather than going for a tried and tested route.   The likes of Cooper, Jones, Potter (I know he was a decent player), Klopp, Mourinho, Wenger all have in UK terms unconventional paths into management - as did Warburton.   Find the next one and get in first.  Just use a bit of imagination rather than the he's done it before route we seem to be going down with players as well as the manager.

I guess it depends what you like from football but I enjoyed the football under Rosenior.   When you think he hardly had McGoldrick available - where would we have finished under Warne without McGoldrick - I honestly don't think top half would have been definite.

Sacking him (ok not appointing him as permanent manager) looked an odd decision at the time - it makes me fear Clowes' views on the game are decades out of date and he's going to keep on appointing similar types.

I don't get this Clowes is a hero thing.   He's a wealthy man who chose to buy Derby County - now I'll judge him on how he runs it.   That's not a criticism of him - by all accounts he's a decent guy but calling him a hero can blind us to mistakes he *might* be making.   I mean I'm pretty sure some saw Mel as a hero a few years ago but he hadn't a clue how to run a football club.

I didn't go and I didn't listen but if he played NML as a wing back he's dead to me.  I mean did he really do that - it's mental.

It's got to be a back 4 from now on surely.   The 532 especially with Ward and Wilson at the club leaves no place for NML and it's difficult to see Barkhuizen playing it.    I think the 433 we could see Wilson as the wide left attacker when NML tires/is injured and ward can play as a progressive RB especially if Elder is more of a traditional LB.

Also more difficult tuo o see John Jules starting in a 532 and I do think we are going to need him or at least that type up front just for pace.

I mean..... I didn't come to the conclusion of not think he was the right person for the job off the back of a few bad games nor will I change my mind after to two wins. I didn't think he was the right person  after last season.
But of course I enjoy winning and I would like to be wrong about Warne and have said as much on several occasions.

Yes you could see us being another Portsmouth - everything that comes out of the club suggests there is a lack of talent behind the scenes .
We have a CEO who has presided over failure, we recruit club coaches from ex players who live locally rather than looking far and wide for the best.  It's a continuation of the appoint Maclaren's son as head of recruitment school of running a business.

Our signings are players the manager knows from years back, we don't seem capable of uncovering a rough diamond from lower leagues or lads released from Premier League academies.

The owner talks about his time supporting us in the 80s but you wonder if he realises the sport has moved on - there's nothing about his vision for the club.   Yes we want to be fiscally responsible but if we are to be a trading club we need to add value to players to sell on - what's the profit in any of our recent signings - yet we pocketed £1m for Plange after less than a season ?

Listen to podcasts from staff at Brentford or Brighton and it's striking how innovative and forward thinking they are.   We seem to be stuck in the past - our plan for promotion was if we run them more in pre season we'll be fitter than the opposition - it's like sports science didn't exist.

Went with being on the edge of wanting him out. I really hope he can turn it around, but there's not much he's done in the past 4 or 5 months to fill me with confidence that he will. Warne's teams are supposed to out work everyone; he pretty much told us that himself, but at the end of last season and the beginning of this, more often than not I find myself thinking 'the opponent just seemed to want it more' and by the 70th minute our lot are out on their feet.
And it's still crazy to me that he watched us last season, and after losing McGoldrick decided that moving our next biggest threat NML away from the wing, without massively improving the forward areas with signings, was the move to make.

With Hourihane, regardless of anything else he has proven over the course of his career that he can score goals and is an asset from set-pieces. Smith and Bird just don't, neither does Thompson. They can play well, but ultimately you're getting no tangible output from them in terms of production.
It's why Hourihane will and has to remain in the team. We need legs around him, but he's the one player who I just don't think you can drop as he can win you a game with a little bit of quality and quality is something we lack.

I'd let Collins go if Shrewsbury want him and sell either Cashin or Bird (or both) and splash the money and wages that frees on a pacy forward, an athletic centre mid and if Cash goes bring in a Stearman type signing as cover.

That's cost neutral and surely gives us better balance and suits Warne's philosophy better.  If we can't find those players when we have money to spend and should be an attractive club in this division then it's a major indictment of our recruitment dept -we all know the difficulties in making signings but it's the same every year for everyone yet somehow other clubs manage it.

Exactly my thoughts. He looks like a head it, kick it, block it defender who is unhappy with space behind him or when he has to use the ball.  Of course it's early days but so far he's looked an absolute liability - longer term I wouldn't expect him to turn out to be that but neither can I see him being the key player we hoped.

What ‘rebuild’. All of our signings, Wilson and to some extent Ward apart, have been old players on short term contracts. That’s to go with all the other old  players we already had on short term contracts. A rebuild would be about bringing in players for the future and setting the foundations for a team like Arthur Cox did. This is about trying to get promotion and then there will need to be the mother of all rebuilds
