trappatoni got a reaction from taffyram in Has Warbeball really changed (not negative just a question)
I think the stats show we aren't as direct of late and we don't seem to try and get it wide as fast at all costs. Now whether this is because Warne has changed his tactics or the players are getting closer to what Warne has always asked I don't know but I think it's for the better.
Our press looks better too - Collins seems to be fitter and his press has more intensity and he's being backed up better. Overall we now look like a top 6 side, even a side who might challenge for top 2 in a weak season.
If we are going to go with a back 5 though for me I still need convincing - I'm not saying it can't work but I've yet to see enough to be confident the defensive frailties of early season are overcome.

If you listen to that radio/podcast series following Warne at Rotherham he states himself Barker is far more into the tactical side of things. I think he probably is more influential in making in game changes and that's why we see him busier on the touchline. Warne seems more the macro manager when it comes to how we play and more hands on with the man management.
Ultimately it's what works - Martin O'Neil was meant to only show up at the training ground a couple of days a week but he won trophies doing that.

trappatoni got a reaction from Ellafella in Derby County v Lincoln: Player Ratings
ATG
1Wildsmith - 6.5.
23Ward - 4.5 penalty was really poor, didn't get many crosses in, his touch looked poor failed to kill a couple of diagonals.
2Wilson 8 Goal and assist in 45 minutes
35Nelson 7.5 Just a really good defender at this level
6Cashin. 7.5. One really good block and solid throughout, always wants the ball
3Forsyth. 6.5. Did OK, got one really good chance
4Hourihan 7. Great finish - part of a midfield that controlled the game in parts but lost control in parts
16Thompson. 6
7Barkhuizen. 5.5. Tried hard, couple of poor crosses, not his best game
20Elder 6.
22Fornah 5.5. Tried hard
19Sibley 7. Good closing down, created a few chances, should have played someone in at the end but even there he did well to get into that position.
8Bird. 6.5.
11Méndez-Laing 6.5
19John-Jules 5. Didn't really get into the game, agree with Warne the 2 didn't really work like you'd hope
9Collins 7. Really good finish but again needs to threaten the goal more - it's that balance of closing down while being in tne right place when we do win the ball.

Id definitely offer NML a new contract in the Summer - for me he's been excellent.
I'd also offer Fozzy a contract if we don't go up - even if it's planned as cover - he still plays a lot of games and can play LB or CB - it may be a lower offer and he may turn it down but if he was 26 and playing like he is nobody would question if we should keep him.

ATG
1Wildsmith. 6.5 solid, not a lot to do.
23Ward 5 poor defensively - good Beckhamesque crossing
35Nelson. 7
6Cashin. 7
3Forsyth 6
5Bradley 6
4Hourihane 5
7Barkhuizen 7
2Wilson 6
19John-Jules 7 Needs to play more
8Bird 6
17Sibley 6
Another example of him being the fall guy for a poor team performance - I know he'd been booked but who hadn't!
22Fornah 7
11Méndez-Laing 7
9Collins 6
I do think Collins is playing better this season but he barely gets a shot off from open play most matches.

It's literally just a barrier in front of you - everything else including seats are the same.
I'd love a return to terracing but this just seems like a pointless exercise in h&s gone mad - I'm not blaming the club i realise they were compelled to do it.

Don't think that performance was as bad as many others seem to - don't think recent performances have beens as good as many others seem to.
Current form is still positive compared to early season - not just points per game but performances and entertainment. It's hard to know where Warne is going with this squad - we change system during games every game let alone match to match. If that's how he manages then if it works fine. In a way you can credit him for reacting to the match in front of him - maybe it also contributes to a lack of patterns of play at times. I'd like to see a more settled team but it's hard to pick a best 11.

2 ends to a pass and the same goes for a cross. Our movement and attacking crosses is poor and makes it look like the service is much worse than it is.

trappatoni got a reaction from Turnstile in Cool the anti-Clowes rhetoric
If the novice is Rosenior and the other Warne then Rosenior all day. Said it at the time and there's no point in going over old ground but the idea that appointing Warne was universally welcomed isn't true.
A lot of the questions that were raised then are still issues now.
- he likes to press high and outwork opponents but we had an older squad that isn't suited
- style of play isn't attractive so going to get less leeway from fans
- talked about % football and if you get enough crosses into an area you'll score goals
- we have a cat 1 academy - he doesn't have a record of bringing through youth
- if we do go up - which for dcfc you'd think then was almost certain in 3-4 years (less so now) what's his record like at a higher level

trappatoni reacted to Eddie in How Paul Warne survives!
I'm of the opinion that the use of the laughing emoticon just because you disagree with someone (as opposed to finding something genuinely funny) is the signature of a sub-standard intellect incapable of elucidating a coherent counter-argument.

trappatoni reacted to JuanFloEvraTheCocu'sNesta in Crewe Alexandra versus Derby County - Match Day Thread ( FA Cup 1st Round )
I support the club, not any one individual within it. I want what is best for the club. I believe that the best thing for DCFC would be finding a more suitable manager.
Clowes disagrees, which is his prerogative, it's his money on the line. I reckon sticking with Warne will cost Clowes a fortune in the long run.

trappatoni got a reaction from RoyMac5 in How do we get investment into the club
Do we need investment at this time? Surely the club generates enough income to outspend the competition in league 1 especially given the rules on spending relative to income.
Let's get the club run right first - recruitment and just as importantly selling players at the right time (which over the years we've been shocking at), academy. Once it's run right then investment will bring a return on the pitch. We've seen to our cost pumping money in doesn't guarantee anything.

trappatoni got a reaction from May Contain Nuts in Warne Out Out
Sticking with Warne isn't safeguarding the club. Look if we really can't afford to sack him then we are stuck until we can sell a player to fund it - but if Clowes has put us and himself in that position it's of his own making. I'm sure Rosenior would have taken a rolling 1 year contract probably on lower wages than Warne.
What is the best case scenario with Warne - he recreates Rotherham here and takes us up in 2025 or 2026. Look what his teams did in the Championship. It's not a long term strategy and giving him time risks necessitating starting from scratch but this time with a load of players we can't shift let alone sell - we would be worse off than the Summer of 2022
-
trappatoni got a reaction from RoyMac5 in So who would we have then?
Good shout. I think we can use the cat 1 academy as bait to get these kind of managers - the ones who have a strong background in youth football and are real students of coaching. We are spending millions each year on that academy it makes no sense unless we have a manager who looks to youth more than experience.
-
trappatoni got a reaction from strawhillram in Dear Richie Barker
It may be unfair but I just find the pair of them come across more like non league managers. Warne with his hat and hoodie yesterday, Barker with his tops always zipped up to the top standing like a sergeant on the parade ground. Both never utter anything beyond old fashioned football cliches. Run more, win battles, quality on the ball, "the lads" trained well.
The use of player nick names - Collo, Sibs, Barks - as if they are just one big happy group. Everything about them just grates.

trappatoni got a reaction from Tamworthram in Cool the anti-Clowes rhetoric
Commenting on the ownership is fair game. We had this with with MM - you can't criticise because he's a fan, he's putting his own money in - and look where that ended up.
Whether the comments/ criticism are fair is all that should matter.
