    That's a great spot tbf.
Elder's followed pretty much the whole Derby squad and then Sonny randomly in the middle.

PW’s latest comments about Knight leaving and his valuation are not helpful and - speaking as a professional negotiator myself - downright stupid. Honesty is a nice trait but not when negotiating in a situation like this …
As a negotiator I am basically hearing him say that he wants him go (although he might not mean that) and that the ‘non-offensive offers which are almost there’ equate to a selling price of 2m max based on the fact that everyone knows two offers (max being 1.5m) have been turned down.
Sorry, but PW should have just kept it to ‘we want to keep him but realize  that he’s in demand…’.’.
Honesty doesn’t pay dividends when you are selling an asset…

    Excellent post.

You’re quite right that Pompey, Charlton and Oxford have all signed some real quality. In my head I also had Fleetwood and Bristol Rovers as dark horses but their recruitment has failed them so far.

However when we look at other promotion contenders forward line it becomes quite concerning (for now).

    Bolton - Dion Charles
    Pompey - Colby Bishop
    Posh - JCH
    Wigan - Will Keane
    Charlton - Alfie May
Not sure what Barnsley, Reading or Blackpool have but without us strengthening the forward line then our top 2 aims suddenly look more like top 6.

I think it’s clear that Clowes isn’t going to invest any new capital to purchase new players in terms of fees. That’s fair enough given what he/the Company invested to save the Club. The business is going to be financed on a straight forward revenue=expenses basis. Sound and safe business practice and understandable given the history etc.
We fans tend to be fickle when the money being spent is not our own (notwithstanding the small amount we inject via a season ticket etc) and the Plan to move up the league(s) is clearly a multi-year one. Once again, fair enough.
The window isn’t closed yet by a long way but it’s clear (bar some ‘rabbit out of the hat’ PW trick) that we are going to struggle to find good strikers (which we badly need ) without the payment of competitive transfer fees. It’s such a shame if that is the case because I think we all know that this year League 1 is in many ways, on the face of it, the ‘weakest’ it’s been for several seasons. That being the case us getting some good strikers in is in my opinion likely to be the deciding factor as to whether we can make a realistic push for promotion- certainly via the auto two spots.
After all the  money that has often been wasted on poor purchases over the last few seasons it is just so ironic that the lack of what would have been regarded as a misery 500k in the past may hinder our promotion chances this year…Yes, full weight also being given to length of contract term/wages adding up to the total aggregate investment in a single player (eg Alfie May). Such is the way of the World I guess..
This isn’t a complaint but just a little realization in my own mind that to build ourselves up to be expecting to automatically challenge for promotion this coming season may be a little optimistic…

I much prefer Dawes and RD over any tv commentator. I love the fan in him coming out, if I wanted neutral mundane commentary that's Sky. If I can't be at the game I want to feel like I am with the passion and the moans along the way.
It's like having a friend at every game letting you know what's happening through their eyes. Sure sometimes it might be through rose tinted glasses or some minor detail slightly wrong, but I don't care as I'm living the game through them.
I agree that with Ramage it was too banter led, but now with Robinson or Steele there's professional expertise at a senior level, or with Bolder there's a newer link into the mindset of the changing room. The current blend works really well for me anyhow. But each to their own opinions.

It’s early days in the transfer window and he’s ( Bradley) probably waiting to see if a Champo club comes in for him. As big as a club we might be we are still in League 1 and he probably feels that he’s good enough for another season or two at Champ level..
The guy must have some options after such a good season with Luton..

I think we all have to ask ourselves what we would do in his situation. I believe the answer is we would all do the exact same thing as he has done. Football is business- football is a profession- and it’s a short career.
    it is what it is.
    I wish him well.
Think it’s a nice and appropriate post from him 👍.

Alongside another striker who can hold the ball up and bully defenders I think we would be on to a winner…
Got to be worth a gamble …

£2.5m is the most we can expect for Knight in the current conditions. Its a fair chunk of money to use at this level. There is an argument that we could keep Knight and get promotion to get him to sign a new contract. But the player has to want to do it. I think he will want to go. If he does...id take £2m tbh and move on.

For me, the reality is Knight (or Bird) is not going to be the difference between promotion or not.
We were short of finishers and a decent last ball and have lost the player head and shoulders above the rest of at both.
Getting in players to rectify that is our priority  and if we have to sell to bring in a fee to help us do that then I'm good with that.
Currently I just can't see where any goals are coming from and it definitely isn't from Knight or Bird. As long as we are able to rectify that with 2 or 3 forward looking players then I can take us letting players go to fund that.
    Exciting weeks ahead.
