Delighted for Derby County. The idea of any points deduction, let alone a retrospective one, was a nonsense in the circumstances. The full written reasons of the DC make clear why any points deduction would be wholly disproportionate and I urge anyone interested to read them.

Here's what saved us from a points deduction last season:
"62) Before we leave this section, we record that, had we taken a different view of the Club’s conduct – and in particular, had we concluded that the Club had indeed been reckless or dishonest in its decision to implement and operate the amortisation policy, that the Club had acted other than in good faith and/or that the Club had deliberately misrecorded or attempted to conceal the amortisation policy that it had implemented and was operating – we would have taken a far harsher view as to the gravity of the Club’s conduct."

Would make a refreshing change from paying £20million for players who are worth 20p

Take this as it's meant, this has come via two pretty influential figures in DCFC history over the past 30 years, not claiming to be ITK and am just repeating what I've been told from sources that I rate highly.
Been told today that it is a Washington DC based consortium/investors that are behind the bid for the club, knew Rooney when he played for DC United, and are just waiting to see which division we are in next season, it's expected to be the Championship.  Led to believe that one of the investors is an agent.
IF we are relegated then Rooney walks, that is not thought to be expected though.
All ready to go and waiting on the EFL appeal and conformation of Championship status.

No idea of money to spend, but given the past few years spending then maybe that doesn't really matter and frugality could be the key.

I find it strange how many people are just realising that wealth and status brings privilege. Like it's a new thing.

Can confirm Igor is as legendary and terrifying as ever. But he still loves this club as much as he did when he wore the shirt. He also loves a cigarette, the genius.

Finished Snowfall in iPlayer last night, really good.
4 seasons that follow a local kid who was selling weed in South Central LA but decided to branch out into coke not knowing people in the black neighbourhoods where he lived couldn't afford it.
So when he heard about crack (or rock cocaine as it was called then - the word crack isn't used in any of the episodes so not sure when that came in) he decided to start cooking that.
He then found the mega-dealer (who was a CIA operative bringing in it to fund cash to supply arms to the Nicaraguan contras, but he didn't know that until the 3rd of 4th season) who was supplying his dealer and started spreading out into other areas of South Central LA.
Fairly violent and sometimes the accents were tough to understand, but I thought it was a brilliant portrayal of people sliding down a path that would have previously been anathema to them.
He went from this nice super-smart kid-next-door to a violent criminal mastermind, a couple of the characters got hooked on crack and it all went south. and even the CIA agent started using and got more erratic.
In that respect it had an almost Breaking Bad feel to it.
As far as I know the story is entirely fictional, but the way crack took over in the 80s and how the CIA were shipping coke into black neighbourhoods to fund the fight against the Sandinista's was very much was a thing.
It also did a cool job of bringing the Colombian, Mexicans and even Israelis into the picture and to show how complicated it all got.
Well worth checking out of you liked BB, Narcos or even Zero Zero Zero.

Watched it when it was on originally. Didn’t find myself caring about any of the characters - particularly Norton who came across as a bit of a wuss….Perhaps my expectations were too high though it seems there’s another series in the offing so I might need to re-watch it….

This is a boom time for small talk! Not only is the weather quite changeable and the Euros on, there is all that dull Covid chat...
Are you going back into work?
Did you keep working through pandemic?
    How was home schooling?
    What about cancelled holidays?
I'm pretty sure I had Covid Jan 2020 as felt really ill for two days.
Which vaccination did you have? They same that x one makes you feel worse on the 1st/2nd one.
They should have lockdown sooner/later/not at all.
You got hours of acceptably boring content there!

So, here we are. Thanks to some very knowledgeable posters, we have, I think, unwrapped the lash-up the EFL have caused us, themselves an Wycombe.  It would be laughable it it wasn't so tragic but I just have a sneaking feeling DCFC Fans are more advanced than the EFL and the LAP on the matter. How did it come to this?

    I've started so I'll finish... ?
The EFL probably (I say this with no evidence at all so it's just conjecture) wanted to avoid rule writing as far as possible, that's for sure.
However, they appear to have done no real analysis to see whether a straight adoption of existing frameworks will give them what they now claim they want in terms of outcomes (everyone using the same approach to the detailed topic of amortising player contract values).
Accounting standards by definition are really NOT industry specific. They are now based unequivocally on the principle of "economic substance over form" to reinforce this point.
I think as far as "indicative market values" go then you would be looking for broadly comparable transactions. That's basically how property valuation is carried out. But it is a negotiable point and as it is indeed industry specific should be within the EFL purview.
To be sure, if you held aggressive valuations in your accounts on the basis that you would be actively trading out these player assets, but you then didn't and they went for 0, then you would expect the following...
    - large final year write downs
    - an increasing auditor challenge to the directors as to why they felt the approach met the overall principles of true and fair, plus the accounting concept of prudence.
    - ultimately an insistence on a revision to the approach in order for the auditors to continue to sign off.
My overall issue with the EFL is that they appear to have "short circuited" these stages altogether and are now writing rules retrospectively at the same time as sanctioning a member for not complying with a non-existent rule.
From a regulatory lens that is appalling behavior.

I think lies is probably a bit strong.
Until this all happened, there was probably a perception or assumption that productivity would fall with people based at home. Not an unreasonable assumption IMO given that large scale home working had never really been trialled before. I know my company was always reluctant to officially allow occasional home working for fear of setting a precendent for all of the staff to request it also. Home working for odd days was always agreed on the QT and informally between worker and manager.
Plus, if there was no video (Zoom/Teams etc) available, as a few years ago, it would make it all the harder for home working to become a thing for many people.
Employers have now worked out that people can actually be trusted to not be micro-managed in the office and be at least as productive at home. In my experience anyway.

An interesting letter in the Times. It wasnt so long ago that if parents took kids out of school to go on holiday, even a day, that day would have profound effect on their education. You could be fined and last but not least imagine the effect it would have on teaching if several people did it would be catastrophic. People ended up in court.
What about now? entire years are being taken out, kids have missed months, i feel for the kids and young generation, they deserve better.
