europia reacted to gfs1ram in Our "Why Wall"...
Derby born (Nightingale, a popular place !!?)
My Dad took me to my first match at the BBG in January 1959 - see picture below that still hangs in Pride Park. I was somewhere on that picture on the Popside. PNE in a FA Cup match 2-2. 2 or 3 inches of snow on the pitch and on the terraces. The match would not have been played now a day.
DERBY PLAYED IN RED !!!! ? and I see both teams had white shorts.
'Forever Derby' from that day onwards even though I have lived 50 miles away since 1967.
Two daughters both keen Rams fans and season ticket holders. Although the eldest had a brief skirmish with Coventry the year they won the Cup but I soon put a stop to that !!!
We still travel the 100 mile round trip. IT'S IN YOR DNA.

hmmm I just went to the highlights - the angles aren't ideal but I'm not seeing it the way you are. Anyway that doesn't matter, the truth is - especially in this league - the ref could have done anything

In his diaries Alan Bennett tells how his mum said to him "I wouldn't like to be bald. I mean, how would you know where to stop washing your face?"?

Went to the cup game away, but 7pm ko is a bit too tight for me to make it this time.
On RamsTV this time around, looking forward to seeing the likes of Rooney etc get some more game time.

Yep, looks a clear foul. Hope the usual suspects on the forum aren't moaning about the ref in this match ?

Yep, best for anyone with their head screwed on to give Hull a wide berth with their current set up.

Fair point. Things can often start enthusiastically and successfully, but the gloss can wear off. Thomas Tuchel formerly of Chelsea a prime example (considering his achievement's) of how players can quickly change their mindset and attitude.
Hopefully, Warne will be able to galvanise the Derby squad and keep them buoyant long enough to achieve a promotion...... or two?

I just want to say how lucky you are to have Paul Warne as manager. I've supported the millers for 69 years. Obviously, I've seen managers come and go during that period. As far as I'm concerned, and many other fans Warne is the best manager we've had.
Like Derby fans we went through some dark times. Administration points deducted, lost our ground, forced to play in Sheffield in an athletic stadium. No atmosphere, 4 years in the 4th division.
Paul has many qualities. Excellent staff management, a workaholic. He's articulate, honest and will live and breathe Derby County.
I thank him for all the memories, 3 Wembley wins 3 promotions and I wish him well and as a consequence wish the Rams well. I've never had a second team, but for the first time Derby County will be my second team. I look forward to seeing Paul succeed.
Hopefully Derby will be promoted and we survive in the championship and look forward to see you at the New York stadium.
All the best.

48 hours from now, I am confident we’ll be celebrating our first away win of the season.
And to be honest, that’s all that matters. We want to win. I think winning football can be played in many ways. In our position, we can’t afford to be so stubborn. We should embrace change.
Personally I can totally understand the excitement from the club and from local media. We have a proven manager with tangible achievements at this level. What is there not to be excited about?
Warne knows what works at this level and how to win football matches at this level. If he has to make us tougher, meaner, more physical, more athletic, more direct, more difficult to play against, so be it.
Personally I couldn’t care less for style points. I want to win the actual points.

Am not sure that it still haunts me but it still is used to this day as a case study on how NOT to do things when you get promoted from the Championship.
The 11 point yardstick still gets used every year when a team at the bottom of the Premiership struggles upto Xmas to match that points tally.
To be fair it's still a huge embarrassment to the club and anyone associated from playing staff to managers to board should have considered ritual hari-kari as a consequence.

It doesn't me.
We signed Andy Griffin, Andy Todd, Earnshaw, what would people expect? And then sold David Jones, Howard and Oakley.
If Forest got relegated this year with all the money they have spent, that would be a bigger embarrassment than us getting 11 points after signing championship standard players.
Eddie Lewis another one.

You’re like a bloodhound to Jack Stretton posts. As soon as someone gets as far as typing ‘Stret’ you appear from nowhere like a s**** David Blaine.

I remember being at a fans forum when Frank was manager. Sitting there listening to Pearce and Morris assuring us there would be no issues with FFP. A couple of weeks later, we found out that Morris had bought the stadium. Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t Pearce on the board? He therefore must have voted in favour of everything Morris did.
Forgive me for having little sympathy for him.

It's his appearances on the radio that make this take quite difficult to take particularly seriously tbh. I think he completely failed in his duty, aided in the misleading of fans as to the real nature of the situation and played a leading part in almost killing this club. But that's just my perspective having no insider knowledge on the situation.

europia reacted to Mckram in Stephen Pearce is a Ram
I meant it as two separate things.
He should have walked a long time ago if Mel wasn’t listening to his advice, but once administration hit then yes the least he could have done is seen it through which he has.
It must take guts yes, but if we weren’t bought and Derby was no more, then what would you think of him?
He would have just said sorry and then walked in to another role elsewhere. I just can’t forgive him for it no matter what he does.
Stephen and Mel knew full well the potential consequences and still did it.

A 'one off' in football whose loyalty and sincerity should be lauded from the rooftops. Yes he may not be the the right man here and now but he will be a success in the future at another club. Thanks to a genuinely nice guy whose stood by his principles and gave our club something to hold onto when it was needed most. Good luck for the future Liam. I will miss you for sure. If you come back with another team I for one,and hopefully us all will give you a great ovation for what you have done for this great club of ours over the past three years. UTR!

From our point of view, as supporters, that would be great.
From the point of view of a small debtor of DCFC, who's just accepted pence in the pound as a result of administration, maybe having to shut up shop, or make people redundant as a result, not so good perhaps?

It's possible, I suppose.
It just wouldn't fit with our seemingly new ethos of doing everything by the book, and not being the dodgy spivs of the EFL.

europia reacted to RodleyRam in Paul Warne appointed as Head Coach
I don't and never made an assumption on that front. I merely said I hoped he would utilise their skills, which I would say are of a higher technical ability than he may have had at Rotherham.
And to the second question, the majority of new signings are on 2 year contracts. The existing footballing talent e.g. Bird, Knight, Sibley and Cashin will be here much less if their footballing ability it's being bypassed in favour of percentage football (would be my guess) but if we are top of the league and grinding out 1-0 wins then perhaps we would keep them longer?
Time will tell. I hope he can get us into the right balance of playing nice stuff and getting results.
