europia reacted to Jourdan in At least we still have a club.......yeah but...
Who are these players that are going to play fast, vibrant, passing attacking football?
Méndez Laing, who can’t last 60 minutes and is equal measures frustrating and exciting?
Smith and Hourihane, who can only prosper on the ball when they are given the freedom of the continent?
Sibley and Barkhuizen, who can’t stay fit or find enough consistency to get a place in the team?
Cashin, who only has a sweeping long ball in his locker?
Let’s be honest, we have a squad which is not above this level and isn’t particularly blessed with technically strong players who can play good attacking football against all comers. This is why our play orbited around McGoldrick for 70% of the season previously.
The only one who is really fit for a passing team is Bird, and currently he is injured and come January, he might be on the move.
If you want to see a good passing team, @CornwallRam is right. It will need time, patience and investment.

Imagine how the lad Elliot must feel. Could've been playing for his boyhood club in a 5 0 win in the championship and had to sit and watch the dross we served up. Must think he's joined a right bunch of cloggers.

europia reacted to dcfcreece1601 in Deadline Day what would you like to happen
Our current squad is thread bare and doesn't have enough quality to be top 2 which the club have said is the goal , so keeping our current players shouldn't be the focus, adding to them should be or even replacing them and adding

I saw a 3.0 turbo diesel Jaguar on the A50 last night with smoke coming out of the engine as it was straining to keep up with a soft top Bentley Sports. Anyone know who owns it ?

Really odd to start a thread just to let us know you have a Jaguar.

europia got a reaction from Bald Eagle's Barmy Army in Summer recruitment, and how will it end?
I tend to agree and the decision makers at the club must also realise that a period of stagnation can happen if DCFC can't get promoted out of this dire league at the 1st or 2nd attempt. I actually thought the club would be laser focused on giving it a really good go this season. However the signings have been totally underwhelming. Fans look for any positives, so get excited at recruiting the likes of Waghorn. Maybe Fornah will be a decent player with potential, we will see. All said and done his previous season was in a relegated team. We have to hope one or two of the new recruits can create some sort of spark. Otherwise we look decidedly mid table.

europia reacted to Warwick Ram in Summer recruitment, and how will it end?
So if we haven’t got the funds why were we able to recruit who we did last year? Connor Hourihane, Tom Barkhuizen, Korey Smith and James Collins all came from the leagues above. They were not put on long contracts, perhaps two years for most, which means the wages were reasonably competitive.
My thought is that Paul Warne isn’t attractive to some players. At the end of the day he is a nobody. He is an ex Rotherham player who struck lucky when they gave him the job after Kenny Jackett left. Paul had only played in the lower leagues and had no reputation. His playing style isn’t attractive and I believe he has no pulling power.
Liam Rosenior was known in the Championship and at mid / lower Premier League teams. In my opinion he had a lot more pulling power.
Why are we constantly linked with Rotherham or ex Rotherham player? Because they know Warne and no convincing is required.
We have the ground, which is better than most Championship clubs, and the training facilities. We have a tier one academy and we get 25,000 plus crowds in League 1.

europia reacted to trappatoni in Summer recruitment, and how will it end?
Yes you could see us being another Portsmouth - everything that comes out of the club suggests there is a lack of talent behind the scenes .
We have a CEO who has presided over failure, we recruit club coaches from ex players who live locally rather than looking far and wide for the best. It's a continuation of the appoint Maclaren's son as head of recruitment school of running a business.
Our signings are players the manager knows from years back, we don't seem capable of uncovering a rough diamond from lower leagues or lads released from Premier League academies.
The owner talks about his time supporting us in the 80s but you wonder if he realises the sport has moved on - there's nothing about his vision for the club. Yes we want to be fiscally responsible but if we are to be a trading club we need to add value to players to sell on - what's the profit in any of our recent signings - yet we pocketed £1m for Plange after less than a season ?
Listen to podcasts from staff at Brentford or Brighton and it's striking how innovative and forward thinking they are. We seem to be stuck in the past - our plan for promotion was if we run them more in pre season we'll be fitter than the opposition - it's like sports science didn't exist.

I can see Collins moving on before the window ends.
I had a feeling at the beginning of the window we would sign Clark-Harris, although it turns out that was slightly over ambitious, I still think we will make a statement signing on deadline day.

I'll be honest I don't recollect any manager since BD rambling on about signings (lack of).
It's fairly obvious that PW doesn't have the pulling power of a Rooney or Rosenior.

If players based their next move on forum/social media chat they would never move club.

Known only as the Jackel, this elusive man of mystery is hunted by DCFC's top investigator, evading capture and a master of disguise will Derby's very own Inspector Clouseau get his man before time runs out?

europia reacted to Steve How Hard? in Not a top 3 team.
It could be argued that a good manager makes average players think and play like a top 3 team. Calling them out in the press is going to do little to motivate them.
PW could do with taking the old advice-"If thas got nowt to say. Shut tha gob."

So why sign Nelson and Bradley? When there's Fozzy and Rooney for cover.
Why sign Wilson and Ward? When again Rooney or Bardell could cover.
Did we need to sign Vickers, or could Loach and an U21 cover?
It's how you spend your budget.
Why sign no pace? No CDM?

That was the point being made in a poor way - if Warne continues to expect these players to press for 90-100 minutes then it's not going to work. The poster was just pointing out the way Warne plays - his demand for pressing won't work. So far what sign has he given that he's for turning? None last season when 'gassing out' was de rigour.
