I think there was some logic in appointing Warne based on his experience of League One but I was in the Rosenior camp, for continuity if nothing else.
Warne will have had an idea of the players he wanted to get us promoted. He could justifiably say we didn’t get promotion last year because it wasn’t his team.
We brought players in but not always at the quality we would like but we did so with 3–5-2 in mind, a decision which failed. We are playing worse football than last year.
Warne needs to find answers quickly. Clowes is a rams fan and can’t be enjoying watching football at the moment.

Every chairman or owner will make bad appointments.
even Tony Bloom who can seem to do no wrong at the minute appointed Sami Hyypia as manager and went through a number of managers until he landed on the current run of decent managers.

XG is a valuable statistic as it determines the quality of chances created. Of course it isn’t flawless because of the ability of the player. You’d expect Mo Salah to score more goals than Van Dijk if given the same opportunities.
But the whole idea is to describe the quality of chance. Shots and shots on goal can be misguided if your 30 attempts were all from 30 yards out. Likewise, Shrewsbury’s XG by half time against Derby was comfortably higher because of the penalty - a chance which came about due to a bizarre refereeing decision and not by any quality on Shrewsbury’s part.
If I don’t watch a game, the two most valuable statistics for me to judge are final third entries and XG. The final third entries generally shows which team is controlling the ball in dangerous areas (as opposed to 60% possession in your own half) and XG tells me which team is creating the better chances.
Possession, shots and even corners play a role in assisting the general consensus.
In Everton’s case, it doesn’t surprise me. But you have to take into account who they have played - Fulham, Wolves, Bournemouth, Luton at home it was well documented they created a lot of chances. Brentford and Sheffield United away too.

Ah yes, the statistical metric xG is subjective yet your 'eyes' and opinion on football are not. That makes perfect sense.

if its such a useless stat, why do most teams use it in their analysis?

Don't agree with the third point. Fans shouldn't be consulted but the owner has to be aware of his customers view or he's in danger of losing them.

A chairman should always, always have more patience than the fans. I've no problems with DC not pulling the trigger just because we're unhappy on a forum/the terraces.
You'd also expect him to have someone lined up, were he to sack Warne. Perhaps that work is ongoing behind the scenes, maybe DC has a target he has to wait for, so it makes sense to keep Warne until then. Only Clowes will know.

Forget the purse strings this squad should be going better than they are. How a midfield containing the likes of Bird, Hourinane and Smith are not dominating games is beyond belief

We have had 1 bid in the last 4 years for him. £750k from Millwall.

Good players can thrive where ever they play. Sibs first touch, strength on the ball and passing aren't anywhere near good enough from my perspective. I understand of course that others have a different view.

I really don’t think it would hurt to sing Hourihanes name before kick off against Exeter to show it’s not meant against him personally and he at least had the balls to come and see the fans …fair play

Its down to the whole way the system is set up.  If you want lots of passing options, you need the team to be compact (i.e. keep the distance between your backline and forwards relatively small), so there are always lots of players with 10/20/30 yards of the guy on the ball. The team then progresses up the pitch as a unit - everybody goes forwards together, everybody goes back together.
WarneBall is the exact opposite - get the ball forward as quickly as possible, which results in the team being very stretched.  You have much fewer passing options because so many of your players are still chasing to catch up with the play (or not going with the play at all), or you're trying to play the ball to the guy 50 yards in front of you, not 10 yards.
In both systems, you are still using energy (moving into space, vs getting up and down), but normally you would use a lot less in a possession team.  You only need a few guys moving into space at any given point vs having the whole team running between both boxes for the whole game.

A year into Jim Smith's managerial career with us, he'd taken us up to the premier league. If social media were around when he was in charge, he'd be much more famous than he is now. He'd have a statue built.
It's a bit different to Warne's first year, but I see your point.

This is what it boils down to.  If results were mixed but there were signs of a plan, a project, some sort of identity for the clubs style long term, then I think you’d have more fans on his side.  I see no sign of it, nobody wants to turn up week in week out for us to create 1-2 chances the entire game and maybe score one of those if we’re lucky.
I also don’t buy this “we’re just not taking our chances” - I know not everyone agrees with xG but we have an xG of 1.32 per game and we’ve scored 1.5 per game so we’re scoring more than our expected goals.  We’re not missing great chances, we’re just not creating them.  We’re led to believe we are and then we focus on the one or two chances we missed and think that’s the problem.  Every team misses chances but the good teams create enough to convert them.  We create very little.  No team has a 100% conversation rate on chances.  We simply do not create anywhere near enough and it shows because barely anything happens to get fans off their seat.  Football is an entertainment business and we’re not being entertained.
I wen’t off on a tangent there but in short, there’s little excitement and mixed results.  Unbeaten in the 5 previous league games sounds good, but we only won 2 of them so that’s now 2 wins in 7 league games, that’s poor by anyone’s standards.

They're not completely blameless but it feels to me that they're being asked to play a style and system that they're simply not equipped to play. The midfield is a perfect example of this, we have a tremendous amount of experience and talent in that area yet they look completely lost positionally and are being overrun by lower league journeymen every single week. Rewind a year ago with Rosenior and teams couldn't get the ball off the same players for more than 10 minutes a game. That's the fault of the manager.

Hourihane was asked about tactics at the fans forum and said it was up to the players to adapt to what the manager wants. In saying today, we are trying, he's giving the same message.
I think it is his way of saying we're doing what we're told to do. My take on that (both times) is that it's not what he - and probably several others - wants to do.
I'm maybe just thinking that because it's not what I want them to do, either.
