EtoileSportiveDeDerby got a reaction from lrm14 in How have our expectations now changed?
A modicum of turmoil (again), I (almost) missed it.
I just want a period of calm where we talk about football, watch football and see where that takes us. LR did OK and I am not convinced we needed a change. He could have been helped with a stronger backroom staff with more experience to lean on. imho, but that's it.

I watched it most of the day. I'm a socialist but have never been anti royal until the Loch Ness Noncer business really. Protecting Andrew may well bring down the monarchy eventually.
The Queen is part of our lives, always been there for anyone under 70. My mum is 86 and can remember King George VI passing and the new young Queen Elizabeth coming to the throne. My mum links the Queen to the rebuilding of the country after the war and rationing, then the blossoming of a free Health Service, great gains for working people, holiday pay, decent public services, affordable housing on one wage, pensions, it was a golden age of a capitalist system with socialist checks and balances.
The years from around the Queens coronation in 1953 to fairly recently was very probably the best ever time for ordinary working people in history.
I fear the circle is turning once again and the Queens passing may well be the end of an era of working folks chance of a decent life.
Read up about Kwasi Kwartengs regulation free enterprise zones and think about where we are going.

To be fair she's set a high pass mark. Watching it on a foreign channel as well and the commentators are just amazed at the spectacle.
What amazes me is how something so big, so complex can be executed so well, it is impressively perfect and then there are so many things that other countries do reasonably well and just don't work here

Probably but the net result would be that the same amount of football is played within the 60 or 70 minutes

Flawless. And with the whole world watching.
Well done to everyone involved for the send off. The removal of the sceptre, orb and crown had so much finality about it. It brings home the continuity of this all, as the artefacts of royalty are passed on.
And very pleased they changed the route out to Windsor, not going by motorway so those who wanted to could line the route.
The second Elizabethan Age is over.

No body does pomp and ceremony like the British, the trick is to just hit the right amount of pomp and ceremony and carry it out to perfection ?

So much better! If we go at teams like that from the off and have players in the right positions to get on the end of things, we will beat the majority of teams in this league.
We've set up way too defensively so far this season and almost invited pressure on ourselves with the tippy tappy football. Let NML and whoever is on the other wing run riot, 2 up top and an overloaded midfield we will score more goals 100%. Then 3 solid CB's doing what they should be doing defending!

EtoileSportiveDeDerby reacted to ivo_knoflicek in Conor Hourihane
I hate to admit it, because I have always been a huge MB fan, but this was also the case against Peterborough. It was only when Smith replaced him then that we came to life.
Absolutely no need to write him off, especially so early in his career, but after a couple of seasons of being a key man he may need a bit of time on the bench while he and management work out what changes are needed to his game.

EtoileSportiveDeDerby reacted to Anag Ram in Conor Hourihane
Difference in our midfield today was that Bird, low on confidence, didn’t want the ball. Hourihane, despite things not working out for him, kept wanting the ball. In the end, he was rewarded.
For those questioning his MOM award, he scored both goals in a 2-1 win.
Without his contribution it’s a 0-1 defeat.

We should never give up mate. If we don't fight for better working conditions they will never offer them.
Our forebears fought for more than a century for the vote. Many thought it would never happen. There is a enough resource and money for everyone to have a reasonable life......we just have to fight for it.

Well, I'll spill.
I already knew the man I called Dad wasn't my biological so knew I wouldn't have any DNA from that side. However my mother refused to open up about the biological father. Anyway, last Thursday, along with being the day after I got back from Crete, the day of my Gran's first birthday since she died in June, and the day HRH Elizabeth passed away.... I found out I have 4 sisters and 2 brothers I never knew about. More trauma was discovering that one of those sisters died a few years ago and I was actually surprised how much that hurt. I have been speaking to my two younger sisters and one younger brother over the last few days. My biological father is alive and well, although I haven't yet been able to bring myself to speak with him yet. It's a bit too heavy right now.
