That might very well be true - and you can see that investors are backing him to grow that business - to the tune of $70m or whatever equity it is he just raised
I just don't see how any serious investor can think putting a similar amount into a "troubled" football club, just to clear debts is a similarly genius plan.
Unless it's some kind of gigantic ponzi with layer upon layer of investors all being told that together they can make DCFC a European footballing force?

Yeah Kirchner doesn't seem like a billionaire. Lots of stories about them getting 60mil in funding to expand the company.

If mel was looking to sell because his cash was running out then you can't claim from 2015-2016 we were on the path to sustainability and profitability....  You can't have your cake and eat it.

Mel hasn't just gambled his money he's gambled this club's future existence which is utterly inexcusable. He's not only completely mismanaged the club to a degree rarely seen in english football but he's walked away after claiming he can no longer fit the bill and publically declared none of it is his fault, instead it's entirely to do with covid... It's so mind-bogglingly arrogant and stupid of him to make such claims I can't believe anyone has fallen for it.

Roos is our best all rounder imo, Marshall doesn’t make as many daft mistakes as the two but he’s nowhere near as agile anything low and fast paced he struggles with.

I think the Wilson payments are delayed for 2 years. If you don't want clubs running up debts then allowing them to defer payment on players for a few years seems like a silly idea because someone will exploit it eventually

    Hey all

Our latest Patreon podcast is an exclusive in-depth technical chat with Curtis Davies on the art of being a central defender. We spoke at length with Curtis on subjects such as:

    - Playing direct vs playing from the back and why Derby will continue to try to play out
    - On being 'the Bonucci and Chiellini of the Championship' with Phil Jagielka and why the partnership has worked (so far)
    - Switching defensive partners, playing three at the back, and the lines of communication with goalkeepers
    - The 'nightmare' 'unplayable' strikers he's faced in his career... and which striker was best at 'the dark arts'.
    - What's next for him - playing for Derby in League One, signing a new deal, his plans for the future.

As mentioned, this one is a Patreon exclusive, and you can sign up here:

The appeal is against administration, not P&S. Any successful appeal can only be on the grounds of Covid, or more accurately, the club not going into admin if it wasn't for Covid.
From what @angieram said (or my memory recalls her saying), it's a case of agreeing a business plan with the EFL or it's an embargo for 2 years.

Even with new owners the Transfer embargo is for 2 years so we can't splash any cash for quite a while and I assume the embargo would also restrict the amount of wages we can pay for a while too. Can't imagine the EFL would be happy with us trying to give a big name free agent like Jack Wilshire or someone 35k a week or something silly, all of a sudden
Maybe an owner comes in pays off every creditor in one go and the EFL drop the embargo and be kind to us.........then Gibson tries to sue us for another imagined slight ?

I assume this basically means any gardening leave period is over / any contractual restraints related to DCFC are now no longer applicable.

I would agree with points 1 and 3 but severely question 2. No chance for me. I think it's always been about him and making a fast buck - a quick promotion to the prem and then sell for double the price. His decisions over the last 6 years suggest he has never had the good of the club in mind. Just my opinion.

an absolute disgrace, I hope he never gets to step foot in pride park ever again.
I couldn’t care less how much money he’s spent… Mel Morris will go down as my most hated person to do with Derby County!
And I witnessed Nigel Pearson as manager and Mikkel Beck play so that’s saying something!

The more I read the angrier I get. It's one thing gambling with your own money, but this was gambling with the very existence of the club - in other words gambling with something which has been very important to generations of people with a fraction of the money that Mel has. It's not even like he's gone bankrupt in the process, just walked away with his overpriced stadium and list of people who are 'really' to blame.

RammingStone66 reacted to One Andy Weimann in Mel put us in Administration because......
Yes that sums it up from what I can see. The issue will be that without assets Derby are not worth buying in the normal sense. The ground being separated from the club means that Derby County FC only have player values and their Championship status that  “could” be considered assets and as such shrinks the buyer pool to ridiculously rich buyer or entity. Anyone interested in taking over the club will want to buy the ground which would be a separate but associated deal with the stadium grounds owners.

The timeframe is then the issue, unless their is someone or entity that is already in negotiations, it will take either months or not happen at all. Mr M has done what any sane business man would do, spread his risk buy dividing fixed assets from the FC. THUS he will get at least some of his money back for the dirt/stadium.

What bothers me is all the bluff and bluster of the ongoing wrangle with the EFL has now shown what a mess was being covered up with the accounts. The Board of directors of the FC have a lot to answer for as probably do the directors of the stadium, as if you don’t think the administrator won’t be trawling over every detail to see if they can distract money or void the deal you are dreaming. I'm not gettng this narrative set by a few on here that those daring to criticise Mel now were the same ones demanding signings and overspending.
Massive, sweeping generalisation that comes across as a weak excuse for Mel's actions.

RammingStone66 reacted to GenBr in Mel Morris interview on Radio Derby 1pm
Absolutely not. As far as the fans were aware for most of Mels tenure the club was being run competently and within the rules. We'll always want money spending. We have no control over how the organisation is run - that is entirely down to the owner.
If said owner then ruins our football club he deserves all the criticism he gets for it. We didn't force him to do anything - he ducked it up all by himself. He should have planned for the long term rather than throwing us under the bus.

There’s a lot of talk, but he’s not really saying anything.
We know the financial model is broken. And he’s claiming he knows that too. Surely that’s all the more reason to run the club prudently, rather than plough ahead and play the parachute payments game without any parachute payments.
