  1. There are so many decent players available on a free I'd only sign him on a basic low wage with bonus for playing - I imagine that's the offer. Let's face it, at that age he's always a few seconds away from a career-ending injury.

However, would definitely like him to stay if we can get the terms right. I suspect our new regime will be ultra-cautious. We're a BIG draw for a lot of players apart from anything else, if I was a player in my twilight years (and having earned good money previously) I'd rather play for Derby than Rotherham even if we pay less money. For a player like Hourihane, it's less 'embarrassing' to step down to Derby in League 1 than, say, Blackpool in the Championship (with all due respect).

Ricketts at Bolton. Didn't he get an England cap?

Micah Richards as well. He was going to be the next best thing.

Ricketts did get a cap as did our Seth!

    Richards was defo injury.

I didn't realise Sturridge had an injury so the few players this can be aimed at are our Ravel and Balotelli. And Rickets. Oh and didn't Gazza used to say that Bogie at Port Vale was the most naturally talented player he ever knew but the guy liked his pies more than football.

For me, Suarez was utter class. A combination of talent and absolute graft. If you look at grafters like Ian Wright and Becks, both were really good but Suarez had that extra level of ability for me.

  3. Not sure why this occurred to me in the shower this AM but what is it with some players and their 'time in the sun' then they just lose form?

Daniel Sturridge and Balottelli are the two that spring to mind but you could throw in James and Saido Berahino. They seem to go from being top (the varying degrees) to just nowhere.

Previous examples that spring to mind are Ricketts and currently perhaps Timo Werner - will he ever recover....? In their case it could be that the style of play, etc just doesn't suit but surely a good player comes out of it eventually by adapting or moving on and then getting their career back on track.

I'm not talking where players have had career-hampering injuries like Wilshire or Andy Carrol but what has actually happened to these guys that turned them into Serie B strugglers? We all know that Mario is a bit bonkers but he's a quality player so what the actual 'eff is he doing in Serie B? Surely he's getting less bonkers as he gets older...?

  4. Looking at that YouTube video what stands out for me is that it seems he's very clear in what he wants to do - win the ball and move it quickly to someone else with simple but well-paced passes. I think that's perhaps where the Jake Buxton similarities are being drawn as he was similar in that way. Personally I like it when players have that mentality. I think that's what TBE drilled into players - he'd tell when what they're good at and focus on that. For example, there was no point in asking Asanovic to defend... or Sturridge to do anything other than be super quick! ?

When DPFG first signed, he did the same thing - just won it and gave it to someone. Then, in later seasons, for some reason he thought he could actually play football and hence the DPFG moniker...

But that’s entirely my point in my post. The valuation was agreed in law (as it has to be for tax purposes) and also by the EFL convened panel.

And the EFL regs on the amortisation states that they have to meet accountancy standards. If they had said they had to be “straight line amortisation only” then, in that case, the regs could be different from the law and be applied differently - but they didn’t and they still don’t.

In these two instances, the EFL regulations and the law are concurrent, so to say there is systematic cheating in breaking EFL rules I my makes sense if your accusation is that the relevant laws have also been broken.

I thought the first hearing concluded that it was lawful (amortisation treatment) but the 2nd (at which there were no qualified accountants) hearing concluded it wasn't in line with EFL regs (as opposed to law). I could be wrong but that was my take on it at the time.

Gibson’s accusations are regarding “systematic cheating” relating to either the stadium valuation and/or amortisation method.

If the valuation was manipulated, there would be questions under tax law.

The EFL regs as written define acceptable accounts as meeting the accountancy standard, so if he contends that they are not correct, then they must not meet the standard. That was the basis of much of the EFL argument at the time.

Either way, to break EFL regs in both these circumstances in the way Gibson claims would require the officers of Derby County to have misrepresented the position under tax and/or accountancy law.

Even if Gibson hasn’t got the stones to accept Morris’s offer to resolve in court, I think his open letter could amount to a libel case that MM could initiate, rather than sit around whilst SG/EFL sit on their hands and watch us bleed out.

But 'systematic cheating' is not breaking laws, it's breaking the rules set out by the EFL.

Valuation - was agreed in law but not in EFL hearing.

The EFL regs are different from law and we're talking about Directors responsibilities here and whether MM can actually legally take this on - i.e. it was the Ltd Company that did 'stuff' and not MM.

Fundamentally the EFL are there to represent all members and they are patently not doing this by allowing member clubs to circumvent their own rules and principles. The only reason can be to save their own skin.

The directors are very difficult to sue. In practical terms,  the only people who can sue the directors are the admins

I think it's only a few things that Directors can be sued for - such as :

    Contracting personally

    Acting beyond company authority

    Misrepresentation

    Bribery and corruption

    Health and Safety

    Serious Data Protection Breaches

    Fraudulent trading

Technically, I'm not sure Boro's claims are any of those... They're about an unfair advantage... what that means legally I'm not sure! In fact, I don't think anyone is! Surely FFP is "just" a rule of the competition, not a law.

Well done for getting MM into the fray.

Errr kinda. It's a win-win-win for MM really.

Win 1 : If Boro take the claim up with him personally (which I doubt is legal) then that enables MM to sell the stadium

Win 2: PR - obviously this make MM look... better to some

Win 3 : His chances of winning at the High Court, without the EFL amateurs/crooks involved, are vastly improved. The accountancy practises that MM employed are perfectly legal, just not acceptable by EFL rules so on that basis alone, will win (IMO).

Bonus Win 4 : If he loses, he will then file the same claims against QPR, Leeds, et al as if Boro win against us, the other claims  demonstrably all have validity in the eyes of the law.

None of that is a criticism of the OP or MM btw, just an opinion.

Wonder what the problem is. I’ve watched the replay several times and it doesn’t look like an awkward landing, or painful at all. Hopefully just an impact injury and nothing more serious.

Yeah, it was a weird one cos he was holding his right elbow but he'd landed on his left so perhaps he did it in the celebration melee?

  10. We should issue an action against every club that had a vague impact on our league position. It's just about promotion (are you listening QPR) but how about us being 15th rather than 14th when Fulham (who got 'done') went up (I'm making up the league positions but you know what I mean.

Clubs that got 'done' in some capacity for FFP which could have had an impact on us are :

    • Fulham
    • QPR
    • Florist
    • Bournemouth
    • Millwall
    • Leeds
    • Blackburn
    • Hull
    • Reading
    • Sheff Weds
    • Luton
    • Coventry

All of those have had sanctions so by applying Gibson's logic, we should sue them all for any negative impact they may have had on our prize money...

  11. It's about reputation and the fans for me. The other fans will know we, the fans, are DCFC. We know our history, they know our history so it wouldn't bother me at all that the 15th legal entity that has held the IP is different...

It's like saying Mel Morris or Robert Maxwell are DCFC - they owned the club but they clearly are NOT DCFC! The fans are. The club is obviously nothing without the fans - I don't think people really realise that sometimes. I've always said we'd get 15,000 fans if we played at the Racecourse and I stand by it. Just like Rangers, we'd come back to hold our place in the league because we're a club (i.e. this group of fans) of a certain size. Bury were always a small club so it was much harder for them to mobilise as the DCFC fans have.

It'll all be forgotten one day just like Leeds, etc.

  12. It's a football league:

    noun

    1.

a collection of people, countries, or groups that combine for mutual protection or cooperation.

Whilst I appreciate that MFC could say our previous owners didn't stick to that, we've already been punished by the governing body but they are now only punishing the fans as the previous owners have moved on. If MFC sued Mel (difficult I know but you know what I mean) then I can understand it's personal, etc but by taking this action against the remnants of the club they are definitely breaking the principle of the league albeit not in law (any Company can sue another for reasons it sees fit).

The EFL are screwing it up by saying these are debts when clearly they're not.

Silverlinings? Not many but it makes for a fruity game if we ever play them again!

If I was a buyer I'd be tempted to buy us out of liquidation and build from the bottom.  We'd still get 15,000 playing against Wealstone Rangers! It'll be a laugh going back up the leagues again a la Rangers. Yes, I'm grasping for positives!

  13. Old Wazza really has grown into the role hasn't he. His interviews are actually quite watchable now and he comes across really well. He's definitely growing on me as a bloke let alone what the team are doing at the moment. Fair play to the bloke, he's caused himself some right grief in the past but he's doing a decent job for us.

What if his knee goes though.  Will be another Thorne.  I can't see he'll be risked at all in the position where in.  As a club, they can't risk having a crocked player, we still owe money for, on a good wage.  I think he'll go if we get an offer  - maybe 3 million ro alub wir parachute payments or bottom of the prem- not to much of a gamble if they can get 10 games out of him .  Wouldn't be surprised to see him back at Arsenal in lieu of 3 million owed.  Get him fit and loan him out for a fee, with another fee on top if stays fit and double their money with more too come from us. Always found it strange they waived the instalment  they were owed  - first dibs maybe

I don't see us getting a penny for him until he's played a season of good quality football. With both his ACL's having gone (I think) he's a massive risk and hasn't played enough for anyone to think he's good enough for the Prem. There's a fair chance he's finished (a la Thorne) or lost a yard so on that basis probably make a decent central defender. Having zero pace didn't really stop Igor doing fairly well...

Remarkably few of us live in Derbyshire!

I think we're the silent majority as it's quite boring to say:

    Derby

    Derby

Cos I'm from Derby and me mum & dad wouldn't have it any other way. And it's the same for my lad. It's not a choice.

How exactly do you build for league 1?

It’ll be kids and journeymen like we have now. Our journeymen will be a year older and our kids have lost confidence. Who, that is any good, will come to a club in division 3. This idea that we can build for a lower division and bounce back is very risky. It didn’t work for Paul Jewel and we are still trying to get back after 13 years.

We need to try everything possible to hold on to our Championship status I really hope Wayne can turn it around but I don’t think he has the experience to get us out of a dogfight. We were really fortunate to stay up last season and it wasn’t down to any great escape orchestrated by the manager that we did. I see signs now that we are slipping back into the old ways

All I hope is that we are still in touch by the time the new owner comes in and we do something about it.

Blimey - that's some serious wrist slashing! It's not an idea to build for a lower division and bounce back - we have no choice! The OP is obviously right, give the kids the experience - that's the only positive we can take from it. Remember positivity? ?

  17. This whole 'paying Paul Ince's mum for scouting' thing... I imagine it was actually just a signing-on fee paid to his mum for tax reasons (i.e. his dad's earnings would put him into higher tax bracket) so whilst it's a catchy title, in reality I suspect it's just a tax-efficient way of paying a signing-on fee.

Having said that, looking back at some of the decisions made by a number of key people involved, they do seem particularly stupid so who knows.

With regard to who's fault all this is - the buck stops with Mel but he does seem spectacularly unlucky in terms of key staff selection, signings, injuries, COVID, pub crawls, etc. Overall, he seems to have had his fair share of luck so perhaps, in the bigger picture, it was karma.

Covid has been used under force majeure in many many businesses over the past 18 months.

    How?

    My business was closed.

    My staff were at home.

    My supply chain couldn’t supply.

Literally thousands of these cases around.

So the administrators will simply need to prove that the covid caused the administration which in other words is demonstrating that the £20 million cash flow hit caused the inability to trade.

I think they have a decent case.

Don't let the facts get in the way! ? The EFL won't lose face - there's not a chance they'll change their mind unless there's some legal action which will open a massive can of worms as all the other clubs will be able to sue... So my point is, it's not about the relative merits of our case, it's just that they can't / won't change the ruling. In my opinion, of course.
