  1. Ipsos MORI .. the leading polling company in the UK, a major PLC .. and guess what ? It canvasses disabled old ladies by phone

( my 89 year old mum in law ) ... wait for it ... at 9.00 at night when she’s in bed.

this isn’t a dodgy double glazing firm .. this is a major corporation who should know better.

I wasn’t annoyed last night, I flipping furious.

  2. BS about emissions

So the edict is that every car manufacturer has to lower the average emissions of its “fleet” to a certain level by a certain date or face fines. ... good idea. Stimulates invention and the development of more efficient engines. I’m all for it in principle.

thing is it’s diffucult to meet the objectives for one reason or another ( that’s a different story ) ... so if you are Fiat/Chrysler you do a deal with Tesla, pay them some dosh so that you can count some of their cars as part of your “fleet” thus avoiding fines.

    Environmental gain = zero

cow boy statistic generators = 1

What a load of BS. Oh yes and aren’t we clever .. our emissions are falling because we are all nice green and responsible and have an environmental policy in our misssion statement. ....No we just stopped having heavy industry (which co incidentally uses a lot of energy ?) and sent all the dirty stuff to India, China and Vietnam.

Far to much of the environment industry is about statistics and how to bend them to suit the story and the public face you want to portray.

I want to be greener cleaner and less wasteful but loath being conned by spread sheet making wordsmiths who know little or nothing about science, industry and manufacturing in a practical sense.

  3. I enjoyed the Steve Bloomer book.

The best bit was when he was interned in Germany during the 1st war. Someone kept a diary, from memory, one entry was something like .. “The Stables played the Canteen in a game of association football, the Stables won 11-0, helped no doubt, in part, by having Steve Bloomer of Derby County and England in their team”

  4. Loved Tin Star initially, but the final series was a drag after 3/4 episodes we skipped to the denouement. Which was quite good but we didn’t miss the 6 episodes in the middle ?

Absolutely hooked on Americans .. Reagan era Russian sleeper agents living “normal” lives in the states. Wonderfully measured and balanced. Great acting and scripts. clever and immensely watchable.

  5. I was a bit disappointed with my first Rams TV match. Nothing wrong with the commentary and reasonable camera angles, but the quality of the stream was very poor. It was jerky and at times like watching a lagging online Xbox game.

Add in that a one match pass costs 20% more than a Now TV one off game.

Is this level of streaming quality normal ? Or did I just get a bad night ?

Bit like an old school report .. could do better

  6. Traffic lights runners

now we’ve all Amber gambled at some point .. don’t deny it ... weather was wet and there was someone up your rear as they changed, your in a huge hurry / panic and you play the percentage and anyway you were crossing as it changed blah blah. You try not to and generally don’t but none of us is driven snow.

BUT .. now it seems you can cross a red light .. I mean bright I changed 10 seconds ago red ..  I stop with ease and someone comes round the outside from 4 lengths back and still runs the light. My wife stopped near Ashbourne  road the other day and the van behind her actually pulled out and went round her ..blatant madness.

is it arrogance, is it that traffic has slowed so much that they know they’ll get away with it, is it that cars are so much better that people feel insulated ?

I don’t know ... but round town every single day I see it happen all the time ... gets my goat

I've rediscovered the joys of sausage, egg and chips in the last few months. Whenever Mrs Ilkley is away it's always on the menu plus bread and butter.  Probably good for my longevity that she's only away once a month on average.

There is something very special about either sausage or chips (or both) and runny egg. ... proper Saturday breakfast beckons

The health police might frown at your alcohol intake mind - most of a bottle of white and good inroads into the red.

The white was left overs and going in the Moules. The red however .... guilty as charged milud ?

mind you I have odd drinking habits .. I love to drink with food but if there’s nothing to eat then 1 drink is usually enough. I drink every day but never much more than 3/4 of a bottle and often just a half .... athe beer before the match doesn’t count ?

That game was on everyone's iPads at school (yes, our school gave us iPads). Everyone was addicted to it, it was brilliant. I remember scoring 9 goals in one game with Yaya Sanogo.

Thing is I discovered something ... after about 4 seasons you start getting worse. The controls don’t respond as well, speed differentials between players disappear and when you switch player to the nearest one .. they run away from the ball .. not clever when you’re defending 1 v 1 .. intended short passes become shots on goal.... BUT .. ha ha ... delete the game and reinstall and as long as you have done it via the game centre thingummy then your data is still there in the cloud. Re install the game and you’re back winning 6-0 with your hard won and developed squad. happy days

Juventus just got stuffed 9-0 ... would have been 10 but for a dodgy offside decision .. the refs in this league are dire ?

i cant beat 9 goals from one player but Richarlison got 6

i’m just sad that there isn’t a Forest team

  10. I don't online game as I suspect I would become addicted. Only thing I am doing at the moment when I have a quiet few minutes is Dream League soccer on my ipad

I never spend any money on in game purchases but can happily report that Derby County ( last years Elite division winners and double cup winners ) have just thrashed Manchester City 4 - 0

Christiano Ronaldo opened the scoring for the Rams, but MOTM was Will Hughes.  ???

Other victims of my exceptional squad (of just 19 players,)  include Real Madrid, Barcelona and of course England and the South American Allstars.

    Having flu.

4 days in bed and I've lost 3lbs so far.

My wife often says she wants a bout of food poisoning, great for rapid dieting ? She once said she’d love to go to prison. Miserable food that you wouldn’t like, plus a gym and hey presto weight loss. I have suggested that these are rather extreme solutions.

Fantastic stuff loweman2. As an ‘outsider’ my memory bank of The Rams began when Derby signed Franny. I’ve often mentioned (sorry to bore but it’s ‘my’ special story why I’m black and white and not blue mooning) Franny made this nine year old cry rivers leaving my beloved Man City for a new chapter under Dave Mackay. So from that day I became a proud Ram and despite my family doubting, I never returned (They are my number 2). Anyhows...... I may have missed it but did you ever get hold of Mr Lee for this series? Be fantastic if you did/could!!

I met Tommy Booth at a party, someone I watched regularly from the terraces, he does corporate stuff at The Etihad, strange for me that the pre Lee era I’m all Maine Rd memories. Now I have many memories from BBG and PP when I had a season ticket. ?

Great story SK ... you can change your spots. You still love your alma mater, mines the ones we beat the other night. I couldn’t believe Gordon Hill went to Derby when I was a teenager. ... saw Franny Lee at Manchester airport once in the late 80’s stocky (actually I mean we’ll upholstered ) overcoat, suit like any business man of the day. Never said a word but he saw me seeing him, got a great nod and a smile. Cracking player

  13. Well I’ve been running round the garden for 15 mins trying to catch my Dog .. she finds hedgehogs and stands over them and barks none stop. I am guarding the little spiky thing torch in hand and finally manage to grab her collar .. phew .. inside now hedgehog safe but has the dog had a wee ? .. arrrggghhh ?
