I get that some aren’t enjoying the football.  I can honestly say I’ve not enjoyed every game and we’ve not played consistently well for 90mins in any game this season.  It’s been good it patches.  But I find it bizarre that poor football is a reason to sack the manager when we sit 2nd with about 1/4 of the season to go.  It’s the very reason Mad Mel sacked Clement.  He said something like it’s not all about promotion it’s about how you do it and coined the infamous phrase “the Derby way”.  And yet a lot are advocating the very same action is taken now.
And easy on the eye football doesn’t guarantee anything.  Mac 1 was some of the best football at PP, yet we lost a Play-off final and went from 1st to 8th in the last 1/4 of the season.  I get we lost Martin but Warne has lost Collins.  Mac 1 had Bent, Warne has Gayle.  It seems like they’re very similar scenarios.
And no, I’m not a Warne defender, pro-Warne, Warne supporter or whatever badge some want to put on me.  I’m accepting our situation, position in the league stage of the season, etc.  The time to review is in May, and see how we’ve done.

So many get fixated by individual match results but really the only thing that matters in the promotion challenge is to maintain a rolling 10points return across the last five games. It doesn’t matter where the points come from - they all count the same value. If we keep that rolling two pints per game average we’ll be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.
And even after today’s game, we are still at 10 points from the last five games.

Yes it does … and why ? … because the “opposition” seem quite comfortable with using descriptions like clown, PE teacher, Small time manager. You reap what you sow. .There will always be an equal an opposite reaction.
I get really stroppy these days and am considering bowing out because the anti Warne stuff from about half a dozen posters is so toxic and inaccurate, it disturbs my karma. I wonder if you would caution those who say clown or describe our manager as inept or make mockery of his desire to have honest players with heart and character rather than just money grabbers after a pay cheque
Not having a go at you personally but just pointing out that it is a two way street.

We were nearly gone 18 months ago. Now we are in second place and have just won 3 tough points with a fantastic supportive crowd, yet because of the dripping poison from a certain merry band this is a 10 year forum low for me. It isn’t about folk having ideas or opinions or differing views, it’s a mindset that’s ugly and needs to be challenged. So well done @Stive Pesley

As the missus said in the first half "I've missed the banter" when the Stevenage fans were giving it some in the first half, and the Home fans responded when Evans managed to haul himself out of his chair.
Dire game, but a great 3 points.

We need to get promoted first and foremost. Before then, any talk of Championship stability or Premier League is premature.
Every single football club will have it’s own short and long term plans, not only that, managers will have their own career succession plan which won’t always be openly shared for obvious reasons.
Personally, as a fan, I don’t put much weight into these plans, they sound great, however only 3 teams go up, 3 go down each season. (4 in League 1). I just look for progress. Progress for me is League table pure and simple.
Others will have their own metrics, however ultimately the league table shows progress. We’ve made progress.
If we finish 3rd, lose in the play off final, it’s still progress. Although the bar has been raised for next season where if promotion isn’t achieved, would be difficult for Warne to continue.
On a side note, it can’t be forgotten what state this club was in just a couple years ago when Rooney left. We have made incredible progress.
History, attendances, facilities don’t count for much if you don’t have a team.

I make no secret of the fact that I like warne , in fact I like warne and clowes as the team/ figurehead s of our club , there’s an honesty, integrity, decency and stability that is really refreshing after the last few years , I then put that alongside the fact that we are getting results and challenging for promotion and I like it , im not unhappy that we are next to top scorer’s in the league we are in because watching derby is not dependent on how we go about being next to top scorers , I then put that together with the fact we are not leaky as a holed bucket so have the best goal difference and when I weigh it all up I’m pretty happy with how we are progressing from a dire position , some are not happy in fact some are very unhappy, fair play to them that’s how they see it , my opinion won’t change a thing in they’re thinking , I don’t really get it but it’s clear they don’t get where I’m coming from on it 🤷🏻‍♂️

Hope so , at this stage we really need to win every game , at least that’s my mindset in the lead up to every game 😂, though I do think every game in this league has the potential to be a bloody tough one for differing reasons game to game , not least the pressure is on us , personally I set myself the rule of not posting on the match thread until the next morning after, I never miss a game whether there in person or watch on rtv and like most fans I get caught up in the emotion results and performance s bring , I’m right in the middle of being torn between going all out gung ho like we have done earlier and being more solid as we seem to be trying to do the last few games , either one’s ok in hindsight if we get the result but bloody daft if we don’t 🤷🏻‍♂️😂

    @Mr. P genuine question…..
    The players or the linesmen?
A couple looked very iffy to me. League 1 linos often seem to judge offsides when the player receives the ball and not when it’s passed.

Really agree with this. Was noticeable today that the crowd was really giving it a good go at getting behind the team, especially in the build up to Bird’s goal.

This carried on for a few minutes after the goal and then we reverted to type, poor and misplaced long passes, no fluidity in possession and head tennis, and it sucks all the life out of the ground.

The result today was frustrating and yet we’re somehow in with a chance of promotion, but this season for me has been really flat to watch. I won’t care if we’re promoted come May, but I’ve lost a bit of enthusiasm this season and I don’t think I’ll be the only one.

It’s amusing how the posters on here regularly accusing the players (the ones who’ve got us firmly in the play off spots) of being bottlers are the very same ones who can’t handle a single bad result without screeching histrionics.

Sorry, I know I’ve brought this up before but I have a real issue here. Half way through this season they moved them onto the inside of the advertising boards - great - a sensible move employed by a number of clubs in the country.
Today all of a sudden they’re back on the wrong side. Most of them are scared petrified just to climb over to get a ball. How many times today was Wildsmith wasting time fetching a ball or a ball just gets knocked out of play and just keeps trundling down the side of the pitch.
Sorry but we, like any football club should be employment every tactic to get a 1% improvement. We want to win our home games - get the ball back into play as soon as possible, so get the ball to our players when it’s a Derby ball immediately!

Every now and then I am bewildered by decisions made by the club.

Just watched the game back in full (amazing how u can relax and enjoy watching when u know we have won 😎).
Bradley did much better but his positional sense still seems off to me. Several times Cash or Nelson had to run in behind him to cover.
There was also much talk about his ‘physicality’ … but I just don’t see it. When he’s jumping for a header or going into a 50/50 I still see him (for such a massive guy) being pushed off the ball too easily. I want to see some fearsome aggression from him so as the opposition’s CF is scared sh@tless.
I think the result is rather tainting some folks’ view but hey, credit where it’s due, he was much better and if he can keep on improving then he may become the player we thought we signed.
Still intrigued what PW does in terms of either three or four at the back. We are too strong with Fozz and Nyambe in a back four to waste that set-up in my view and if CBT is to feature I don’t see how that happens if we stick with 3-5-2.
Gonna be interesting with Wilson as well- I don’t want to see him dropped- offers too much for us going forward in my view …

To take @VulcanRam's point semi-seriously, I believe that Plod have been directing away fans to the Babington's Wetherspoon this season where, as well as a fine array of ales to keep us pot-bellied, bearded, virgins happy, they can find a selection of continental-style lagers, which for a few extra pennies they can top up with lemonade to make them palatable to the average southern shandy-drinker 😉

There are other factors why we haven't seen as much of the youth.
I get the want to solely pin this on Warne, and his track record doesn't speak volumes to want to use them- leopard, spots, etc. - but it can be hard to shift that mindset when we've tasked him with finding near immediate league success.
A lot of the lads in the u21s were rushed from the u18s as a knock-on from the admin exodus, and have only had half a season at that level. Not only that, but there's been a lot of change in the academy hierarchy. That'll take it's time to settle.
We're still in rebuild mode as a club. Can only use that for so long, yes, but it doesn't exactly scream the most stable environment to safely develop these players - especially when the fans have the expectations that they do right now, can you imagine the reaction if Warne throws in a young player and doing so loses a game?
