Wildsmith's natural goalie instincts kicked in and he just spread himself, to block the shot and not fully aware of his exact position in relation to the penalty area. It was only luck that the shot didn't actually hit him on the arm. Speaking from experience, when I play in goal in walking football, I spread myself as much a possible to block close range shots and I went through a spell of getting hit full in the face, not by choice, you just spread yourself.
I seem to remember our defenders last season, giving referees the opportunity to make a poor decision, which they invariably did.

Roy Mac life long legend at the club, player then manager and still frequenting PP for various events
Flew home from a skiing holiday one new years eve, only to find the house freezing cold because the boiler had packed up. left my wife and one son with a fan heater, jumped straight in the car to get to the match with my other 2 lads.
I seem to remember John Gregory getting clattered by the half way line at the BBG, nearly ending up in the dugout, he picked up the trainer's bucket which was next to him and emptied to contents over the player who had fouled him. He earned himself a booking for retaliation.
Favourite current ground is MK with the spacious comfortable seating and the massive number of away fans allowed. Back in the day I used to like the Hawthorns with seats along both sides and home terracing one end and away terracing the opposite end.
Proudest moment was being at PP when it was opened by our late Queen, the first ground to have that honour.

Like many things in life, MM definitely was not perfect but he was also not unlike many other owners trying to get their clubs to the premier. The way it ended, I couldn't forgive him for letting us go into admin, even though nobody could have foreseen an event like covid and the effect that it had on the club's finances.
But those claiming that he was the only owner playing fast and loose with the rules, are just wrong. Yes, he tried to 'bend' the rules, the same rules that clubs like Villa, QPR, Bournemouth, Brighton, Wolves, Watford etc shattered, but got away with it by getting promoted. MM's crime was not getting promotion, close but not quite there. After all, the amortisation rule didn't actually come in until years after we supposed to have committed it. He should stuck it out and fought that ruling, had he stuck it out we wouldn't have entered admin either and we'd still be in the championship, that, I can't forgive. Regarding the ownership of the ground, there are quite a few clubs who don't own their own ground. Brighton, who seem to be everyone's idea of the perfect club, don't own their own ground. The club's owner owns the ground and charges the club a peppercorn rent, with the company owning the ground getting deeper and deeper into debt, owing nearly £200m when I last looked. My local team, Blues have been playing with only 2 stands open for a few years now because their recent owner wouldn't stump up the cash for repairs. WBA's owner has took money out of the club and hasn't paid it back. What's going on at Reading and then there's the situation with the company owning Peterborough's ground, just to name a few.
MM wasn't perfect and we seem to have suffered more than virtually every other set of fans except Bury, but to claim that he's out there on his own, is simply untrue.

Cambridge United have been found guilty of multiple beaches of EFL regulations regarding having an unregistered player on the bench. Not only this, they also back dated documents to try to cover it up.
The EFL have come down heavily on them though, fining them a grand total of £12k, of which £1k is suspended.
I wonder what our punishment would have been?

Interesting comments from PW regarding free agents and apparently one in particular that he fancied back in May, but was set on championship football and is still on the market. Players like that will be a lot more reasonable with their demands after the weekend and the longer it goes on the more reasonable their demands will become.
So, a signature signing may come after the window closes.

Unless you get a booking there's no jeopardy, but there is a chance that you'll get away with it. He was lucky that he hadn't been booked during the game, otherwise he would have been off. As it happens, it was a poor penalty and he would have saved it easily if stayed on his line, so the actual punishment for him coming off the line, was to get knocked out,
    What a shame.😂

We didn't need to, we dominated the game and over the season and the game, fully deserved to be promoted, but were cheated out of promotion. How I wish we could turn the clock back and win that game against that bunch of cheating bar tenders, even if it meant resorting to some dubious practices on the day. That 'honourable' defeat has cost us big time. If i'd known what was to follow, I'd have run on to the pitch and rugby tackled Zamora myself.
Who knows where that team plus some new signings could have gone, we could have been like Brighton.

Cast your mind back to the play off final against QPR, we had a great team and management set up that looked like it was going places, we were cheated by a team of expensive mercenaries which lost £76m in that season alone. They even resorted to professional fouls to stop us by any means possible and still needed lady luck on their side. Are you happy that we were the honest gallant losers  on that day or would you rather have accepted a cynical bit of play on our behalf, which would have won us the game and probably changed the recent history of our club?
I know which choice I would have made.

How many penalties did we 'earn' last season and how many did the opposition 'earn' ?
Likewise how many tactical injury time outs did the opposition have last season, in comparison to ourselves?
Both are a stain on the modern game which I detest, but unless something is done about it, we have to go down that path also.
Personally, I play golf, snooker and walking football. I don't cheat, because to win by cheating is not winning at all. I couldn't enjoy a victory, knowing that I only won because I cheated.

But, football is a big business and do you think that there is one villa fan out there that wishes that villa hadn't smashed FFP to pieces when they beat us in the play off final and they'd rather have gone through what we have done in the last couple of years?

I didn’t see the game but rub of the green really does play a part. We haven’t had it much in recent times it feels. Those moments when the ball is bouncing wildly and somehow always lands on their players toe. The ball just going the wrong side of the corner flag, the half slip so the lovely pass doesn’t come off and the 50/50 free kick decisions that could for or against. I am biased, as we all are up to a point, but still think the balance has been against us. Great on Saturday that it swung the other way 🐏

Hit a good shot last week. Has really surprised me this season. He seems so much more positive in his play. First instinct is always forwards lately. Felt the opposite last season.

Has Waggy had a right leg transplant since he last player for us? Whenever he used to get a chance on his right foot, he would be lucky just to make contact with the ball, but his goals against Oxford and his third today, were sublime finishes on his 'wrong' foot. Long may it continue.
