A couple of local clubs to start with then a higher end league one team (or two) ending with a home game against a lower end Premier League team. I really don’t see the point with playing teams from abroad. 

I don’t think the “small clubs” would go out of business but they’d probably become totally uncompetitive (unless they had an owner trying to punch above their financial wealth). We’d probably end up with an imitation of the Premier league whereby there would be a group of teams competing at the top pretty much every year, yo yo-ing up to the Premier League and back, and the rest relieved to be lower to mid table in the Championship.

Good job Colin Bell wasn’t one of our iconic players ! 

I agree that it didn't "feel right" playing the likes of Forest Green and Morecambe but it hasn't stopped me enjoying (in the most part) the last two seasons we've also been in the same league as top 2 division regulars such as Ipswich, Bolton, Portsmouth, Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley and Peterborough. So we shouldn't be looking down our noses too much at league one.

Of course the achievement in itself doesn’t compare to our league wins, glorious victories in Europe or even winning the old second division but, as other have said, the context is all important here. Less than two years ago we were on the brink of extinction. Even after DC saved the club we could easily have found ourselves floundering in league one for too many seasons.

I have to confess that even though I was strongly against a pitch invasion - in favour of allowing the players and their families to do their lap of appreciation, it actually panned out rather well and the players appearing by the directors seating worked a treat. Even those of us still in the stands had a good view on the big screen. The presentations actually worked very well with the players (plus DC and PW) being surrounded by fans rather than in the middle of the pitch with just the sponsors banners. 
 
So, I was wrong. What a great day.
One final word, is it possible to love Ebou anymore with his fine interviews and jigging around? What a character.

League One is a melting pot of smaller clubs who are relatively well run and then bigger clubs who are down there for a reason. It's an enjoyable league for the match-going fan and with 49 wins in two seasons there has been plenty of happy Saturdays, albeit those wins (a lot of the time) feel more like 'job done' than enjoyable and anything other than a win feels like we're playing well below ourselves. 
In two seasons we've probably been the underdog by the bookies in less than 10 of our 92 games which underpins the level of expectation. Expectation ultimately drains the joy out of football.
in hindsight, it's been an enjoyable experience (of sorts) but I'm in no rush to experience it again.

No.  I'd take 5th from bottom as a starter and rebuild from there.  Not 4th bottom, I've had enough stress

Just staying away from the edge of the cliff will do for me.  15th or so is fine.
Looking forward to the first league table that shows us above "Pompy", if only for the joy it'll bring on here!  😁

I don't mean any offence by this, but that just seems such a miserable and sad outlook to have on it. As a football fan of a normal (I'm hesitant to call Derby normal) club who no one in their right mind would glory support, you seldom get anything to ever celebrate. You rarely achieve a thing. If you can't enjoy it, specifically when we have gone through what we have, what's the actual point in it all?

Please, please, please, when we're playing away, stay at home   😉

The irony is almost beyond belief. According to the article, part of their claim is for reputational losses. You couldn’t make it up.

Anyone calling it tinpot is clueless to what this club has actually been through in the last couple of years. Push their club to the brink of extinction, stick them in L1 for two seasons and see how they react when they get out of it.

Obviously I hope we make a real fist of it next season and, one day, make it back to the Premier League. We’re right to have ambition and be celebrating our promotion BUT, where’s the joy in watching your team getting rolled over and losing most weeks even if the quality of football and standard of the officials is better?
I’ve enjoyed the prospect and expectation of picking up points at every away game I’ve been to (although, I’ve only managed to get tickets for 7 away games and we lost 4 of those - Barnsley, Bolton, Shrewsbury and Northampton) and the I’ve quite enjoyed being a relatively big fish in a small pond.
I’ve not enjoyed not being able to get tickets for the way games I’ve fancied (this season was the first I can remember not going to the last away game) and I’ve not always enjoyed the quality of our own football (but a wins a win). Hopefully both of those will change (for the better) next season.

The smaller clubs will certainly miss the full away ends that us, Pompey and, potentially, Bolton, provided. For their sakes, I hope that a team with a large away following like Birmingham gets relegated, although TBH no-one deserves a visit from that bunch of dickwads.
