inter politics reacted to chadlad in Max Bird
As an Academy graduate I think that Max is very under appreciated by the average Derby fan. Even overheard one say that Korey Smith is a better player!

Not saying he was anything special but Smith and Hourihane didn't exactly pull up any trees.

inter politics got a reaction from Caerphilly Ram in Summer Rumour Mill
He meant waghorn is in the building but also said we were hopefully close on another one

The balance wasn't great and none were great but thought Bird was the best of the 3. I worry if Warne is the right manager for younger players.

Long long way to go but honestly, at times we looked old and slow

Fortunately, I'm old enough to know that the early season games are usually not an indication of how the season develops. Today doesn't mean very much at all.
The worry is though, there were some really troubling signs there.
The back three are painfully slow. It won't have gone unnoticed that Wigan just kicked the ball past them and got through with ease.
The midfield three were too static and offered very little. They were neither aggressive nor creative. I can't see those three being the right blend.
The bright side was both of our right sided wing backs created a lot of chances. Unfortunately, we didn’t have strikers in the right place to convert them, or midfielders bursting into the box to pick up the 2nd balls
Wildsmith was also quite poor. Back to the nervy keeper he looked when he first signed, rather than the confident, consistent player who finished the season.
I'm glad it was the first game of the season. They are often anomalous to what follows, so not too worried. If that was the 10th game, I'd be seriously concerned though.
Not completely comfortable with the captain. It makes him difficult to drop, and I'm not convinced that he's better than Smith and Bird, and we can't play all three together
On that showing, we need 2 strikers and creative midfielder if we're going to compete.

I think it’s just poorly worded and the signing in the building is Waghorn.

inter politics reacted to Ghost of Clough in Paul Warne on Sportscene for full hour 1st August
Talked about a change in culture - moving away from a bland all over white colour scheme at the training ground, ensure players respect the badge, on time to meetings, not shaking Warne's hand when subbed, mobile phone use, etc...
Players voted for the club captain (may not be a player who plays every week). To be announced on Thursday.

What's Warney most proud of...interesting response. Inject a bit of fun and a bit of realism...inducing the correct culture. Warney is very interesting when he talks about culture...he's a serious student and what I call a proper "cultural architect" - I'd liken it to what Cloughie used to do ...without actually knowing it was that.

My concern is another 22 year old going out of the door and the replacements on offer Wood (29), Forshaw (31) and Tunicliffe (30).
If we're in League One next season, we don't have a Bird, Bielik and Knight to sell and propping up our budget to the tune of £5m - there surely needs to be some emphasis on bringing in players who we could potentially recoup some value otherwise we're going to be recycling through free agency and cast-offs again next year - except with a £5m shortfall in the budget.

Wasn’t too fussed about losing Knight, a good player but didn’t think he had much of an impact last season and not really sure what he is and where he fits. If we lose Bird, then I won’t deny, I will be in full on meltdown!! Our best run last season he was at the centre of everything our dip coincided with when he got injured. I haven’t watched preseason but from what I’ve heard he’s looked good, im expecting him to be the standout midfielder in the league this season. Seen comment that he’s overrated, on the contrary I think he’s underrated. Could do more in attacking third but good positional sense defensively excellent on the ball with a good passing range, said it before IMO he’s the best of his generation coming through the academy. Unless we’re going to use the money to improve the team, this makes absolutely no sense to me!!
We’ve got to get out of this league to stop likes of Bristol and Hull being able to take our best players, we’d have a better chance with Bird, price him out of a move and risk him leaving on a free or a small tribunal fee next summer. If we get promoted I reckon he’d sign a new deal!!

Im all for selling bird as long as we can reinvest the money in the squad, if we can't then I don't see the point

If Rhodes has pulled this stroke, I would imagine that PW would be reluctant to sign him now. Surely that's not the kind of person that he wants in his squad and nor would I, on principle.

That’s football. Even as a derby fan I can admit he’s one of the greatest English sportsmen of all time. Plus he hates the Aussies

Sad that Broad has retired but he has been a brilliant servant to England

Been informed today that Rhodes was due in for a medical yesterday but didn’t show. 99% certain that’s what Warne is on about with people “lying in football”.
He can go swivel for all I care. Been crap for years and messes a club like Derby around. Not the sort of character I want here. Banker.

In his post match interview with Rams TV he mentions about possibly wanting another centre mid as he looked at the bench & didnt see cover if Bird, Smith or Hourihane got injured
