To put a positive slant on that, I'd say we're still dealing with the consequences of it, but the suffering is already in the past.

It'd be nice to think this was completely true. I think an element of that rides on the results of this season though doesn't it? We could still suffer considerably as a result of not getting promoted, losing our best players and then not being able to replace them. The long term impact of admin on the club is yet to fully play out, though we are extraordinarily fortunate to have an owner who will do right by the club and not a vulture like Mike Ashley.

Don't y'all realize the players we lose if we don't get promotion? And that we can't buy any players to replace them (free transfers only).

If we don't go up this season I'd expect us to lose Sibley, Knight, Cashin and Bird for staters. Quite possibly others. They've been loyal and given us a season in League One to try to get us up, but they all want to play at the top so they're not going to do another season in this division.

Can't see anyone wanting to buy Sibley...

It’s like stand up comedy and the manager has the microphone. He talks about the player to the media. If the player really objects to what he says, then that’s a problem in the dressing room. It’s not about knowing the players. It’s a bit more obvious than that

I just don't see this. What is he saying that could cause any players offense?! I get the sense that Warne will say to the players the same things he says to the media - he's actually very careful not to put players and will say stuff like 'i was talking to a player last week who needs to XYZ'. If you don't like his approach then fine, I just don't see any players being that precious about it.

  5. This happened to my brother. He now has a plate with false teeth, which he can take out whenever. His party trick is to take them out in the pub and try to get them in people's drinks without them noticing. If he succeeds it's an instant neck your point penalty...

    Classy lad my brother...

  6. I think playoffs are realistic given the position we are in and the players returning from injury. Make no mistake though, whoever we have in the run in, they will be tough, scrappy fixtures.

We are in a good position but things can turn sour rapidly, so we need to put the run of poor performances behind us and actually string together a few unbeaten to eliminate any sniff.

I think Ipswich will pip Plymouth into second, I reckon we'll finish 5th and play Barnsley.

Ultimately if we make it there, we just have to forget the season and beat whoever is in front of us in the knockout.

Staying in this league for another season wouldn't be the worst thing in the world but it would be great to escape at the first time of asking and then seeing if we can renegotiate the terms of the business plan to give us a fighting chance.

  7. I used to worry when the opposition scored first as they tended to close ranks and make it impossible to break them down. Now I'm more worried when we're in front...

Couple of observations from the last couple of games when certain flaws have been exposed.

    1. We lack the kind of galvanising leadership you need at this level (probably at any level to be fair) at this stage of the season. Both official captains have been out and stand in Fozzy is a legend but quietly leads by example. Of the other experienced players we have, none are the type to grip the game by the scruff of the neck and rally the troops. We've really needed that during this dip in form.

    2. Linked to the above, we have a soft centre. Our central midfield is made up of technically gifted players, not without energy but deficient in muscle and bite. The team was obviously composed to deliver Rosenior's high possession football but without the kind of player doing the brutal, ugly stuff, Warne's high energy, high press, open tactics can be exposed by teams who flood the midfield or play through the lines like Plymouth did last night. We are too nice in the middle of the park.

    3. Warne hasn't yet been able to demonstrate the in-game management to respond to teams who change up. This has been exposed in the last couple of games and people have alluded to the limited options, which is fair, but we do have players who can fit different formations and I don't think we've sensed danger quickly enough in light of the threats from the opposition. It's not enough to just run about more when the chips are down, we've got to be smarter than that.

You can say these issues aren't resolvable with the current embargo, we have an incredible squad under the circumstances and it's amazing we are competing for the play offs, take nothing away from that. But now we are here, we have to seize the opportunities and I don't think the senior players or Warne have done enough with the resources we've got in recent weeks.

All that said, we have a run of games that are winnable and a chance to get ourselves back on track until the next big test which will be Ipswich.

    Still all to play for.

  8. I knew as soon as we didn't win that this would be a 25+ page thread rather than a 13 page thread...

I get that regulation victories stimulate less debate than a loss or a draw but I always think it's worthwhile looking at the bigger picture after each game. Helps me to remain sane.

During our good run, we picked up points we probably didn't quite deserve. During this slight down turn, we've probably dropped points we didn't quite deserve.

Over the course of the season that will even out with us most likely finishing top 6, which is what we will deserve on balance.

On the Shrewsbury game, and demonstrated in a few other games, we failed to do the boring and ugly stuff at a critical point in the game. That's cost us more points than it should this season.

However, anyone saying that a draw was a fair result on the balance of play is having their judgment impaired by the end result. Save for 15 minutes we were dominant and should have won.

It's a shame but hopefully we can put it right against Plymouth.

  9. I love Fozzy. Always have, always will. Some of his crossing during Mac1 was glorious.

To have the determination to come back from the major injuries, reinvent yourself and be one of the top performers after 10 years is a great achievement and testament to his character.

Seems like a thoroughly decent bloke too. That's important to a club like ours and seems to help the young lads stay grounded.
