I’m not saying they’re mutually exclusive. People can criticise on here and then support during the game. I’m saying the cheering and singing isn’t unconditional. I’ve never booed at a game, even the most turgid of matches, but I’ve also not cheered and sung during them because what am I cheering? You’ve bored me for 90 mins and I’ve cheered you on for doing it?
support is one thing but if you want me to cheer and you want me to sing your name then give me something to sing about, don’t just expect that it will always be there. Earn it, earn that praise, that support, that backing. Earn it by putting on a display that makes me want to come and watch week in week out.

Well, that's me staying at home then. I cannot justify the expense of going to matches to be served up that awful, uninspiring football. It's like spending £100 for a Greggs pasty.
It'll not make a blind bit of notice to the club if I go or not, but at least I can spend some money on DIY jobs I've been putting off.

I understand that when the football isn’t pretty, and the league position is dire, football fans will inevitably lash out. However, I am amazed that there are a good number on here tonight slating our owner. This is a staggering state of affairs even for our club, only some 15 months since he saved us.  Cool it down lads.

The sad part is I won't even be that upset if we lose, due to the absolute thrashing we'd get in the semis.  The quarters will all be competitive, the semi not so much, then a cracking final, where I think it will be France v Ireland.
Have a worry that the All Blacks might just have one big performance in them though, hope I'm wrong.

    Since I'm here I thought I'd chuck in a couple I'm watching:
Slow Horses (Apple) - a bit slow (sic) to this one but brilliant IMO, about a group of cast out MI5 spooks. Only watched S1 so far, and hoping S2 doesn't disappoint. Great cast, especially Gary Oldman.
Invasion (Apple) - Sci-Fi - more about the people than the aliens - enjoying this too, currently on S2E8. Has had mixed reviews (some saying too slow paced) but I don't think so.
The Long Shadow (ITV/ITVX) - Focuses on the victims of The Ripper attacks of the 70s including some pretty bigoted views on women and highlighting the police's many failings . Compelling TV and def worth a watch.

Sweeney has to go. He's presided over the decimation of the game at home and for too long, the stuffed shirts have rinsed the players whilst filling their own pockets. Let's not forget the 2003 crop had to refuse to rain whilst in training camp for their victorious RWC exploits.  Really not a lot has changed and Sweeney is a painful throwback IMHO.
As for the tourney, well no gripes from me. It's been brilliant and more so than any (and I've watched every game I could from every RWC since the first one) it's been by far the best and critically, the highest profile. Rugby is on the threshold of becoming a truly global sport and the game's administrators need to be of a calibre that can fully exploit the swelling interest to the benefit of the game itself.
My highlight so far? Easy. the Portuguese team, who rocked up with no fear at ll, played an expansive game from all over the park and consequences be damned. They really embody the essence of the game and its spirit and I think they've been beyond exceptional. Romania have steadily improved and warrant a mention based on heart alone. They've taken some fearful tonkings, but have to a man stayed present and stood up and they've shown steady improvement and I thought the scoreline in their last game did them zero justice. I love their fighting spirit and they again tried to play rugby that fans want to watch.
Knock-outs here we come. I'm at a mate's 40th do on Saturday, so I'll miss the first of the big ties, but I've already got a bottle of Macallan in for the Sunday games and I can catch the Ireland v NZ game as an hors d'oeuvre, or amuse bouche either side of a fillet of beef. I'm like a pig in shoyte right now, despite England's woes 😎

Ever since becoming a new Dad just under 4 months ago, my daughter was born 3 months premature and very poorly which led her to being in life support, and in NICU for the first 2 weeks of her life. She's at home now on oxygen after 2 months in hospital and 9 blood transfusions, but something happened to me during that which has made me look at life in a completely different perspective.

Stories like this really get to me because life is so fragile and its only until we go through something do we see it as such. I have no words that possibly come close to making anything better other than I'm sorry. I'm so sorry that for all the talent/money/success that Josh has been gifted with, that this has happened. Unfortunately cancer makes no exceptions, it doesnt matter who you are, it can come for us all.
All we can do, is hug and hold those closest to us for as long as we have them in our lives, and appreciate every second we have.
My condolences to the whole family 💔

Very sad news for Josh and his family, the support from his colleagues will be needed at a difficult time like this, sometimes there’s more to life than football. 😔
Perhaps something could be arranged by fans to show support at the home game? Applause at the 31st min or something?

Another week and another round of matches and one or two real doozies to savour. Tonight we see France return and Galthie has picked a pretty formidable squad. Great news for the French and any neutrals hoping to see some running rugby, a horror story for Namibia. I can see France winning this by 60+. Jonathan Danty and Cyril Baille return from injury, Dupont returns after a rest week to partner Jalibert in the halfbacks and the metronomic Ramos returns at 15. Does he ever miss?
Tomorrow we have Argentina, desperate for a result after a humbling at the hands of 14 man England. Samoa could sneak into the next stage with a win though, but I expect Argentina to put up a better show and keep their hopes alive. That said, Samoa have a bonus point win under their belts and will fly at the Argies from the off. This might not be pretty and won't be for the faint-hearted, but it could be a compelling watch.
On Saturday I'm expecting a routine win for England against Chile, but hoping to see a little more of the urgency and ambition we saw in the last 25 minutes against Japan, when we actually looked ok. For the love of god though Borthwick, play Arundell! If he's not worth a start against this lot, then why bloomin bring him? And if we do play him, let's try to get the ball in his hands before the 60th minute, pretty please! Seriously, Jonny May is not and never has been an international standard rugby player. His defence is suspect, he's horrible under the high ball and he has concrete hands. Likewise, Elliot Daly lacks the pace these days to dust any winger with pace and Max Malins surely needs looking at, given Cadan Murley's inexplicable omission from the squad. Whatever the line up, nothing less than a convincing win will be acceptable against the lowest ranked team in the tournament. Attack, attack, attack!!!
Saturday evening sees two titans go to war as the Irish take on the fearsome South Africans in a World Champs meet world #1 ranked crunch match. The starting line ups are as you'd expect and the Bokke go with a 7/1 bench split so we know exactly what's coming. This will be brutal and attritional stuff and whilst either team could win, my fancy is the Saffas by 1-7 points. I just think they'll suffocate Ireland, though I'll be screaming for an Irish win all the same.
Sunday sees a two decent match ups; Scotland take on a muscular Tongan team in a match of contrasting styles and I'd love to see them put a marker down with a strong performance. Finn Russell has been a little quiet thus far, likewise Duane Vermeulen but I can see that changing on Sunday and again I'll be cheering for a home nation win. I hope I don't jinx them, but I'm hoping for a statement performance from the Scots.
The second leg of the sunday double header sees Wales take on Australia with everything on the line; the Wallabies have copped for some awful flak back home after an insipid performance against an admittedly talented Fijian side and despite sitting pretty currently, I don't find Wales convincing at all, even with Gats coaxing some improvement from a beleaguered Welsh outfit. With neither outfit playing the way they can, it's very hard to call as both teams are capable on their day and both teams have strike runners who can turn a game in the blink of an eye. I'd like to see the Welsh win and with attacking threats like North, Adams and Rees-Zammit, who is to say they won't, but I fancy Australia to edge a tight game in the toughest pool to call. Wales have secured the two bonus point wins already though and with Fiji still in the mix, it's an absolute livewire of a group.
Enough of my waffling. Enjoy the games chaps. I'll be back to explain why I got it all wrong on Monday 🤣

I’m in my late 60s and was lucky enough to be able to retire 10 years ago. After a difficult couple of years getting over not working I love my life - exercise every day, never felt fitter, though bits are dropping off - my hearing needs aids, my eyes need glasses, my joints creak, I’m on medication (low level) for cholesterol and blood pressure and my hair is largely a distant memory. I do find myself thinking about my mortality fairly frequently  though not morbidly. Death is the last great secret I have to experience. I  know I have long since passed the halfway mark in my Rams watching season tally.
In my youth 65 was old and people often died soon after retirement. Now I’m there I want to keep going but I am a deathist - never heard that expression before. I want to keep on going so long as life is comfortable and my body is not giving out. I’ve no interest in the far future - I expect it would look terrifying to today’s world, just as today’s world might be terrifying to people born 300 years ago. I’ve no interest in rounds of surgery to replace my heart or organs for the 5th time - you would end up like Trigger’s broom on its 20th handle and 10th head or whatever it was.
What I would like is the opportunity to pick the moment I go and in the UK. But that’s another debate.

    When? Sat 2nd Sept
Where? Toughsheet Community Stadium, Burnden Way, Horwich BL6 6JW (Located in the Middlebrook Retail & Leisure Park).
Last Season Bolton finished 5th in League 1 last season before losing to Barnsley in the Playoff Semi-Final.
Opening 5 Matches The Trotters started the season with three straight L1 victories, scoring three goals in each game. They have since gone two without a win as Saturday's draw at Burton followed a heavy 0-4 defeat at home to Wigan.
BWFC Dangermen On paper it would appear to be their two top scorers, former Burton man Adeboyejo (four goals) and NI international Dion Charles (three goals). They have lost two fine loanees from last season though as keeper Trafford and the Liverpool RB Conor Bradley have moved on.
History This fixture will be the 136th time these two Founder Members of the Football League have met in a competitive match. In the Cup competitions it is Bolton who have had the upper hand with five wins to the Rams' two.
In League encounters though it is Derby who have had the better of it. Of 128 League meetings DCFC have won exactly half. The overall League record is as follows:
    P 128  W 64  D 23  L 41
In recent meetings between the sides Wanderers have won just once in the past dozen matches compared to the Rams' seven wins with four draws.
Although this is an away match for us, our home record against Bolton is fantastic, with Derby unbeaten since a 0-2 loss at the Baseball Ground way back in Sept 1981. Since then the Rams have won 10 and drawn four on Derby soil. That run includes wins in the last five at Pride Park, scoring 17 and conceding three in those five games.
Connections Players who have represented both clubs include Frannie Lee, John McGovern, Jeff Chandler, Nicky Hunt and currently at Bolton is Cameron Jerome. There is also a connection through our ex-gaffer and their former player Phil Brown whilst ex-Rams player Ian Evatt is seemingly doing a fine job at Bolton as manager.
Pair of Titbits Firstly, Bolton's 73 seasons in the top division is the most of any English club without winning the title.
And secondly, and I like this one tbh, the first ever Football League goal came in this very fixture on 8th Sept 1888 on the original opening day of the season. It was scored at 3:47pm (3:45pm kick offs all round then) by Bolton's Kenny Davenport although Derby went on to win the game 6-3.
Rams Expected Line Up I'm not aware of any injuries picked up against Peterborough so we could see another unchanged starting XI as Derby seek a third straight win.
