    Pardon my French but duck Jack Wilshere! Turned us down in favour of better offers that never materialised and before IRC the £4.5K a week salary cap was applied. I'd venture that a guy who'd rather sit on his sofa unpaid than come play for us and put himself in the window in doing so, is exactly the type of player we want to be avoiding like the plague.
    We've assembled a team of scrappers who are putting everything on the line for the shirt. Why upset that balance with a tackle-shirking, Billy Big Bolarks who think he's too good to roll his sleeves up? I'd take one Jags over any number of Wishere's.

    For those travelling up please don’t fuel boro’s fire! Any retaliation for recent events from our lot tomorrow will be jumped on by Gibson and anyone anti-Derby, don’t give them an inch. A Derby win and another display of great support will damage the EFL and Boro’s case much more than a limp jab from anyone 10pints down

    With respect Andy I don’t think many of our fans truly get it. Our current predicament, indeed our point deductions, are nothing to do with stadium revaluations or amortisation policies. Yes they have been bumps in the road, that the EFL (and Boro) have tried to make a lot higher than was needed. But neither have had any great affect on where we now find ourselves. Whichever amortisation policy we had used we would still have probably been overspending against P&S rules in 3 of the last 4 seasons. We would have still lost the same significant amount of cash over the same period of Morris’s tenure, despite him realising £40m of profit from a stadium revaluation. We would still be owing £60m plus to Creditors. We lost 9 points for excessive overspending, and another 12 points when our owner decided enough was enough.
    Note: This is not to say I support the EFL/Boro, especially so in respect of the vindictive way these spurious football claims have been handled in in the last few months. But imo we cannot argue too loudly that our -21 point deductions is unfair. We should rightly however be arguing that points deduction should be the end of the matter, and the EFL should be doing everything it can to ensure that an historic member club is allowed to rehabilitate and flourish, on a sentence served basis. The fact they haven’t will see the end of them hopefully.

    Not a chance because they know they won't win. It will further highlight how vexacious these claims are though. I wish Mel had done this a month ago.

    FA Cup 4th Round – Saturday 5th February 1972 & the visit of near neighbours Notts County to the BBG
    Notts started the day 2nd in Division 3 but the match captured the imagination of the Derby public, attracting a season high gate (to that point) of 39,450. The game also saw a welcome return to the BBG for Willie Carlin, a key component of Derby’s 1968/69 promotion winning side. Unfortunately for him, his day was rather spoilt from being on the receiving end of a 6-0 walloping – Derby goals coming courtesy of an Alan Durban hat-trick, John Robson, Kevin Hector & an Alan Hinton penalty. Match report below;

    Pre match edition of the Ram featured a menacing looking Roy Mac & future Derby midfielder Don Masson either side of the FA Cup;

    Elsewhere in Round 4, non-league Hereford’s brave run was finally ended by West Ham but only after a replay at Upton Park, having held the Division 1 side to a 0-0 draw at Edgar Street. They were however to be rewarded at the end of this season with election to the Football League (in place of Barrow). In the draw for Round 5, Derby were given a home tie again but this time against reigning FA Cup winners Arsenal – ties to be played end of February;

    Fla Ram reacted to Leeds Ram in Mel Morris: an example
    Morris mismanaged the club to a degree rarely seen before in the history of this institution which is quite an achievement. He spent too much money too early, then when he wanted out he wanted to recoup as much as his investment as possible he couldn't find a buyer. You add in covid and his willingness to walk away never to be seen or heard from again and you've got Mel Morris. I think certain people got won over with his schtick especially with small group discussions or 1 on 1 which is easily done. I believe @David once mentioned Mel had given him a call to make sure he was okay, so I'm sure there's some residual loyalty and even affection there but I may be wrong and if so please correct me. Personally, I think leaving the club where he has is absolutely shameful as is his unwillingness to have actual communication since it all started going south. He was everywhere when we were doing well and now apparently he's ducked off to America which for me shows the character of the bloke. I hope he never steps foot in the city again.

    As you know David I am not a big fan of Mel Morris, but the points you make above are compelling. He has to be cut some slack, because he did blow at least £150m of his fortune to achieve the dream, the fan’s dream, of the Club being a potentially strong player in the upper reaches of the Premier League.
    Where I think we diverge are his motives, and perhaps his decision making. I think he bought the Club to be ‘Mr Derby’, and that most of his decisions were short term and knee jerk to get to the promised land asap. He developed an unsustainable model that just ran out of control. Let’s not reflect on his player/manager choices, I am thinking more net-transfer and wages dealings. We were a financial train out of control in 2018 and I think he knew that, but still backed Lampard (or did he back himself?) that he could ultimately win big with his investment (or gambling as I would less charitably call it). He was taking tremendous risks with our Club in my opinioneven at that stage. When he realised in 2019 that he had a) either had enough, or b) had insufficient funds, he should have put his hand up then, and attempted to sell the club and stadium for a few pennies, rather than the c£100 which he was touted as wanting. In my opinion his ego, and his desire to claw back as much as he could, prevented that, but in hindsight he would have been far better off taking that damage limitation view.  COVID was unforeseen and again I have sympathy for him here; given the position he found himself in that was just rank bad luck. But again even at that time in my opinion he still didn’t want to be seen as a failure, and was still mooching around with chancers who might have paid him some proper money. It is because he kept holding out for a return on his investment that things got worse, because that is when with apparently no more funds he wanted to invest he turned to short term moneylenders and HMRC to fund his cash flow difficulties.
    I don’t think the guy a fraudster, or indeed anything too derogatory. He has however one way or another taken a well organised Club to the absolute brink of extinction, and no Derby fan should ever forgive him for that.

    as long as mel is involved behind the scenes, then Gibson and efl wont give an inch. They want him to suffer personally, and as a consquence our club suffers.

    What Mel Morris has done to our club......racked up millions in debt and then just walked away - shows just what is wrong with corporate governance in this country (and probably others), let alone governance of football and football clubs.
    The club (the supporters and the community) is being punished, not the person who created this mess.
    I think it was Gary Neville who said (blimey, I am agreeing with Gary Neville....just give me a minute to come to terms with that) that clubs should not be treated like ordinary companies but more like listed buildings.
    BUT even companies should not be treated like this - there are always employees, creditors, suppliers, customers etc who would suffer under similar circumstances.
    What penalties will be imposed on Morris, the person? Barred from being a director? Investigated by the Financial Services Authority or other legislative regulator?
    An owner/director cannot just do this and then walk away - or rather - should not be allowed to do this.

    Impressive interview from LR, both him and Rooney speak so well. It would be fascinating to see how they got on long term with some decent backing. I'm kind of hoping that this season's experience shows us that the culture and characters of the players we being into the club is as important as their supposed talent. Any future investment should be spent wisely. We have to remember this experience and take the good stuff forward.

    My god I don't even know what to say really. The march before the game was way bigger than I had dared to imagine and it is something that we'll all remember for years to come and shall go down in folklore. The atmosphere before the game and at the end was absolutely spine tingling and very emotional. The team struggled until 70 minutes, looked flustered, uncomfortable on the ball and unsure of how to get at Birmingham. The tactical change did its trick and we started knocking on the door making them look poor. The noise for the final goal and after was honestly nothing like I've heard at a Derby match before, a giant outpouring of emotion occurred that simply could not be contained. An absolutely epic day and one that's made me monumentally proud to be a Derby fan.
