TimRam got a reaction from taffyram in Stories of being in the ‘Home’ End
First away game as a kid went with my Dads mate who got me a ticket for Derby v Forest at their place. Unfortunately had to go in the Forest part as he was a red! Kept quiet until Forest missed a penalty and cheered...got some funny looks from big blokes looking around to see who was cheering and seeing a kid! Finished 1-1. How we got a draw from that game I will never know.

I'd add Snakes on a Train. Snakes on a Plane was ok though.

It was Munich not Berlin...and we went in the home end that night.
It had been going off in town all day before the game, we saw loads of gangs of German and English just wandering around smashing the place up, it was a really moody atmosphere and because we had tickets in the home end we almost leave out hotel to go to the game....glad we did..
We decided no one would notice us, sat there in the middle of their main end, didn't say a word to anyone, we were totally undercover, then when Yanker scored for them the row in front of us all turned around and screamed "F you England" "ha you English pigs" etc etc, seems like we hadn't been as "undercover" as we thought.... anyway as the game went on and we equalized we managed to sit on our hands, then when the second one went in we lost it....the locals were fine with us, same for the 3rd, the 4th...but by the time the 5th went in they were getting mightily annoyed, so we went and stood with a group of 10 Milwall fans who were also in there, safety in numbers....
Walking back to the hotel.... that was like the wild west...

Was on front row of home end Bournemouth v Derby. Sis in laws brother got us tickets at their place but was in with Bournemouth lot. No problems but it was strange (reluctantly) getting up with them as they scored. Then staying seated and mute (although discreetly nudging brother!) as we scored. Finished 2-2.

And yet, Sharknado truly is one of the cinematic wonders of our age, to be named with reverence alongside such classics as Wild Women Of Wonga, Godzilla v The Smog Monster and Plan 9 From Outer Space and as such, watched while drunk, stoned or preferably both.

Good as he was in that game I think his hat-trick in the 5-3 Cup win away at Tottenham was Big Rog's finest hour, it was a remarkable comeback against a team with some massive names at that time

Anyone who played football as a kid would have had that one game. That one game where you played beyond your natural ability and you could seemingly do no wrong, such as a goalkeeper pulling off countless saves or a striker who just couldn't miss.
I'm convinced this happens to professionals too.
So, can anyone think of any standout performances from current or past Derby players which just went beyond their natural ability or which is very unlikely to be repeated again?
I'll start with a couple to kick us off:
Tom Lawrence vs Huddersfield Town (A). I'm convinced Lawrence will never play a better 45 minutes again in his life. It wasn't just his two goals. He actually made the right decision almost every time he got the ball as Huddersfield couldn't handle him, while defensively he was brilliant too. Many people will question why Lawrence can't match this type of performance on a regular basis. But that's the point of this thread. This was his one game.
Bob Malcolm vs Wolves (A). Who else thought we'd signed the Scottish Claude Makelele after this performance? Malcolm made his debut in the 1-0 win at Wolves and he just mopped up everything infront of the back four. Sublime. Every other time he put a Derby shirt on he wasn't even half as good as what he was that night.

That evening picture is iconic. Dark and then suddenly seeing the floodlights and hearing the crowd...great memories.

Jake was a good replacement. Saw him at Donington in 84.

2 clear penalty decisions turned down there... disgraceful officiating (again!). Should have won.

Just as a correction, I was talking about the current Brighton team and aspiring to be like them. Not the Brighton under Hughton who were defensive, direct and heavily reliant on Glenn Murray.
Potter’s Brighton are really entertaining. And in players like Bissouma, MacAllister, Lamptey, Moder, Mwepu, Sanchez and Maupay they have a decent core of younger players to mix with the experienced ones like Dunk, Gross, Trossard, Lallana and Webster.
I look at Brighton and see an identity, entertaining football and decent recruitment. I see a team on the rise.
I wouldn’t be too fond on Derby following Hughton’s Brighton. Defensive, struggling for goals and outplayed most weeks.
