If he beats Germany wouldn't it be the first time Southgate has beaten a top side at a major tournament? Why ignore the luck of 2018? If Sven had had that draw in one of his World Cups he probably would have got to a final, yet he's seen as a failure and Southgate is now "great".

He’s only had one tournament- give him a chance!

  2. Southgate has done a decent job. Bought the young players into the squad, got them all playing for the shirt again. He had a tough gig taking over after the car crash of the Hodgson and Big Sam era. Got to the World Cup semi final and nations league final. IF we beat Germany his record will be up there for England. I think Southgate is an ideal international manager, not all club managers make decent international managers. Southgate is well suited to the role. He just needs to let the shackles off a bit more.

They found our notes to those accounts were misleading on the amortisation. So the note explaining how the number in the accounts was calculated didnt actually do that clearly enough or was misleading. The notes are part of the accounts. Sorry if  someone else already said, i havent caught up on all the pages of misery yet

You may have just answered by query. Fair do’s. To my knowledge it wasn’t illegal though was it? Not against EFL rules? They approved them. They should have checked to the time? Jeez - I’m turning into Alan Hinton with all these question marks?

Interesting - being charged for accounts that the EFL signed off as Ok three years running

This is what I don’t understand. Surely the EFL don’t have a leg to stand on given they approved the accounts when they were submitted. This then makes future losses void with the re-submitted accounts as we presumed what we were doing was ok. It’s like going 40mph in a 40 area and then 5 years later being done for speeding after they changed it to a 30.

This is all over my head, since when did you have to have a degree in accounts to follow your football club. Duck the EFL!

My favourite bit was where England gave away a corner by passing backwards so much when they started on the halfway line

ITV are calling it much more lively and that spark was there. Kane looked more involved, they said.

    Er.. lol.

I don’t know why you watch football - it makes you so miserable!

Much better first half- lively, more intense. Grealish and Saka very good. Second half, professional. Job done. Big test on Tuesday. Need the front 3-4 firing.

Barely scored a goal for us and could easily be the best player at the club next season if we play to his strengths.

Watch him get 20 goals next season.

Poor management of players by dcfc all round

The club are to blame for many things, but the plight of Jack Marriott is not one. A player with great promise who couldn’t be arsed to stay fit and work hard. Only himself to blame. Yes, he has been affected by change of managers/playing style, but his attitude has by all accounts been below average. A shame, but his loss. He won’t play for a bigger club than Derby in his career.

    When did negotiations start?

When was they offered the contracts?

    Were they interested in staying?

Did they have better offers elsewhere?

Did they receive offers that would have given them first team football?

Did Rooney want them to play more academy football, didn’t think they were quite ready and they disagreed?

I mean there’s so many unknowns to say it’s a poor show from us.

Rooney, Mel, Pearce, Brown, Agent, Family

There’s so many pieces involved with signing new contracts, if they do leave it could be easily any one of those pieces.

I get it’s frustrating, but that’s part and parcel of being a football fan. Seen highly rated academy players leave before, fans unhappy but they spend careers at lower leagues.

Obviously there could be other factors involved. But potentially  letting two of our most promising youngsters go for a free/low compensation doesn’t exactly fit into our recent model of developing youngsters for the first team to then sell on.

The way he has developed the last two years, Ebosele has a decent future. It would be prudent and proactive to protect the Crown Jewels a bit more in this case.

  8. It is a poor show that we’ve left it so late to get Brown and Ebosele signed up. More incompetence from our chief exec maybe? As for Marriott I don’t see how the EFL can step in there. If he had the option for an extra year it’s very common for clubs to trigger that, regardless of whether they really want to keep him. Lots of clubs offer extra years in order to get a fee. Bizarre.

If he doesn't know how to proceed with that form of journalism then he shouldn't be writing those articles. It's simply irresponsible to give someone who a lot of people had very grave concerns about a platform that came without any form of actual questioning. In my opinion Conway isn't really an investigative journalist, he's closer to an op ed writer that sometimes has an inside story which is different. I don't have a problem with that at all, it's a perfectly valid form of writing  but then he shouldn't be doing these kinds of interviews if he's not up to actually doing some digging.

Jeez, has Conway done something personal to you - you don’t  seem a fan at all! Think the hate is slightly unjustified.

At least he’s getting something from those involved in these failed attempts. More than can be said for the local journalists. Thought it contained some decent bits. Glad Alonso failed. Absolute chancer. Next!

He's been out injured or has been playing through an injury about 95% of the time he's been here. He was also injured while at Sheff Weds. Why does everyone seem to ignore this?

There’s a reason players pick up injuries though. If you don’t look after yourself and condition yourself suitably then you’ll pick up muscular injuries. Many managers have now alluded to Marriott’s attitude/application in training. It’s not god enough for a professional sportsman. Marriott had a great opportunity at a big club. If he’s not careful he’ll be in League 1/2 for the rest of his career. A waste.

There are three players with differing issues and a lot of potential.

Does anyone know if we still have a sports psychologist? I know we used to have one.

Duncan - seems to think he made it without making anything. Looks like he had a lot of bad advice, would probably benefit from a League 1 loan to see if he can hit the target a bit - depends if his ego would allow it.

Ibe - I think the odds of him playing for Derby are low. Nobody wants this to be the case, does he need an arm around him? A mentor? Can't we send him to live with Curtis Davies or Jonno? If he gets his head right and is shown some love, he could be immense. It's a big IF. Part of me wouldn't be surprised if he's cut in the coming weeks.

Marriott - Almost feels a bit similar to Ibe. Rooney 'wrote' last weekend that he got rid of some players in January that he didn't feel were positive for the club. Marriott obviously close to Duane Holmes, Jack's wife being the sister of Duane's Mrs, I believe.

For me, if these three are part of the retained list, get them playing. Give them a run. It's the only way.

I’m sure the club and PFA have offered lots of professional support for Jordon. He’s been working with Shane Nicholson, as mentors go, you’ll struggle to find one better than him after everything he’s been through.

  12. @86 Hair Islands sums this up perfectly for me, great post.

Marriott seemingly has wasted his chance at championship level. 3-4 managers now haven’t played him regularly for us and Sheff Wed. There is no excuse for having a poor attitude/work ethic. He could have been a cult hero - a modern day Booby Davison, he’s in his last chance saloon and I don’t hold out much hope for him.

Ibe - Has had his chance, doesn’t seem to take responsibility  for his fitness. He put out a post about him being back to work last season, but it was him ambling around the training ground kicking balls meekly into an empty net, not exactly grafting. Still doesn’t seem right mentally according to his social media. Won’t play for us again. Release him this pre season.

Bobby Duncan - whooooo?? All the fanfare for an U23 squad player!

Who were? Malone, JoFlo and even Marriott cost mucho casho, they did little and we were left with what? Waghorn just about made his money by the penalty and goal. ?

You’re judging them after Lampard left. It’s not Lampard fault that they’ve all been crap after he left. Whilst he was at Derby, his signings were half decent for his season in charge. Malone was pretty good under Lampard, not 3 million worth but decent. Marriott had a good season. Waghorn was solid. JoFlo, yeah I’ll give you that one.

  14. Not sure Lampard deserves the level of hate he gets from some on here. He was part of a very enjoyable season, we came very close to promotion. His signings were decent under him, not his fault they’ve been poor after he left. Yes his departure was drawn out, but overall he had a positive impact on this club. Cheers Frank!

If and when we can start signing players again and if we are looking at freebies then Dan Cowley has been released by Birmingham.

Looked good against us then lost his way under Karanka, he looked a good player at this level skilful and combative and still only 23.

I really liked the look of Cowley. He’s obviously lost his way but looked a very good player, great delivery, good on the ball and had a little edge to him. Would be low risk, high return. There will be loads of frees this summer who would improve us.

The Co-Op bank called in their loans and put the club into liquidation, it was they who sold the club for £3 to the 3 Amigo's not Lionel, I believe there was some animosity between Peter Gadsby and Lionel Pickering although that information came from one of Lionels friends so I cannot verify its authenticity. Lionel paid £1m for the club invested £10m of his own cash and got no thanks from the fans, (sound familiar) he famously went on radio Derby and said " to the moaners and whining fans "If you can do better, where's your money - and if you don't like it, go and watch Forest.”

I bet Mel would like to do something similar.

I don’t remember there being that much animosity towards Pickering, the odd murmuring of discontent. Fair play to him for the Forest quote, a classic! The same can be said now, but we’re hardly after blood with Mel Morris, but it’s obvious he’s had a mare. Pickering was a great chairman, one of our finest. It’s a shame Morris couldn’t do half as good a job.

No, just some basic human decency and a balanced view / understanding of how we've ended up in this position rather than finger pointing outraged nonsense. Apparently that's too much to expect from some people.

I’ve not read everything on here, but generally I think that’s what has happened. People realise Morris had good intentions, but Morris and Pearce, have messed up on a massive scale. Fingers need to be pointed at those responsible for this mess, and those 2 are at the top of the pile. This is a terrible time to be a Ram. People should be outraged that this has happened. It’s mismanagement of the highest standard.

why in hells name would he talk to anyone on here who deride him blame him for everything that goes wrong. the moaners were not moaning when we spent millions on players just pointing out hypocrites.

You’re damn right he’s being derided and moaned at. He’s run this great club into the ground. Possibly the worst owner in our history. We’re a shambles and him and Pearce have let it happen. Do you think he deserves our praises??

  19. 20 minutes ago, VulcanRam said:

As for Stephen Pearce, he deserves a medal for keeping the club above water over the last 2 years, not being told to resign.

If there is a medal for how not to run a football club, then yes I agree he deserves one. We’ve been a shambles for two years or more and he’s chief executive. Prior to that he was finance officer when we were signing god knows what in contracts. Yeah, he’s done a great job!

I think he originally was of the opinion that he wanted it to go to someone he felt would love the club like he did as a fan...

As time has gone on, his health has deteriorated and absolutely as you've said he's seen that even 200m of his own money doesn't garner you anything but hate and vitriol he probable changed his mind and thought screw it... I just want rid...

Why should he care about the fans now when they have so clearly demonstrated they have nothing but contempt for him?

I’d hardly say Morris has experienced hate and vitriol. Some disgruntled fans on a fans forum is hardly hate and vitriol. His reign unfortunately has been a disaster. I think everyone appreciates his effort and intentions. But I’m afraid he will go down as one of the worst owners in our history. I’m afraid for Morris, despite his huge wealth, he’ll be remembered as a failure as a chairman. We are a huge mess and he is responsible for that, fans have been very patient and understanding given the circumstances.
