To be fair, poty tends to go to the player that’s tried the hardest and put a shift in consistently, not necessarily the most glamorous or obvious players. So it’s not that surprising.

I always thought it went to the best player, weird.

The WC semi and the ricochet off Parker was an embarrassment though. Even I can walk backwards quicker than that.

Shilton was good but overrated in my opinion. Even at his peak playing for that team down the road, he made some howlers - who could forget how he dealt with crosses in the 4-1. Imagine Roos doing that.

Nah. Give me Poom or Boulton.

I agree. Poom’s the best keeper I’ve seen for Derby, class!
Shilton was a great and still had some great games for Derby but was past his best. It made me laugh watching him take goal kicks, it was like an U10s game, he struggled to kick it further than about 40 yards, regularly failing to make the centre circle!

Asanovic is a miss.  Van der lann, Stimac and Sturridge in the promotion season as well.  Yates must have had a very good year.

Yates was a good centre half, had lots of injuries that he overcame. He was no where near the level Stimac was though. Stimac was a cult hero that season, I can’t believe him or Sturridge didn’t win it.

  4. Has anyone seen the BBC Derby Sport votes for the best players of the last 50 years? It goes through the player of the year in each decade.

Looking at the 90s choices - it’s agreed these were exciting times. Yet looking at the the POTY awards you wouldn’t think it. How did Stimac, Wanchope, Sturrridge, Asanovic etc miss out? One of our better time periods and Derby fans choose Powell, Laursen and Dean Yates as our best players. Don’t get me wrong, they were good players, but looking back, it’s a bit beige considering the football we played in this period. Why is this?

I wouldn't mind seeing something like this next season, assuming Rooney can keep who he wants.

    Allsop

    Bielik   Cashin   Buchanan

    *RWB*   Knight   Bird   *LWB*

    Ebiowei   Ravel   Lawrence

Foulkes, McDonald, Davies, Forsyth, Bardell/Solomon, Tommo, DRobinson, Sibley, Wilson, Stretton, Cybulski

Two new wing backs to complete the starting lineup. Anyone who is sold or doesn't renew their contract would need to be directly replaced - no promotions from within.

Absolutely no chance of that being our squad next season I’m afraid. And if it is, that back 3 is poor! Bielik is wasted at the back, especially as a right sided CB. No centre forward again? It’d be a long season. It’s a no from me

Anyone got an Athletic sub? Probably gleaned from tweets.

Nothing new in this article. As you say, it’s all taken from CK’s tweets. Says 5 players under contract are Bird, Sibley, Knight, Stratton and Bielik. Buchanan to leave as his extension trigger has passed.

Nowt new to report though. The Athletics coverage of Derby has gone downhill since Conway left. I’ll be cancelling my subscription, there’s nothing in there anymore.

  7. 35 million was mentioned in the podcast thing with Ed Dawes. If it’s this price, surely that would cover HMRC and the football creditors and so avoiding further penalties??

Kirchner said in December that he was putting in up to 60m over 2 years in his bid. If he has those funds a 15 point punishment is not a guarantee, especially now the stadium isn’t part of the deal.

  8. I can’t see CKR staying next season. He has had two major injuries which have taken its toll on his body. He’s not looked the same this season. I think we’ll move on.

If we can keep Alsopp, Cashin, Forsyth, Ebiowei, Thompson, Morrison, Davies plus Sibley I’d be happy. Unfortunately I think Bird and Knight will go, hopefully we get a few for Buchanan. Bielik will definitely go.

    The Batman

Started off exactly as I hoped. Dark, brooding, vaguely 'emo' (put me in mind of The Crow) with great visuals and soundtrack.

Started to drag a little towards the end and become slightly predictable but still a great attempt at breathing new life into it.

    8/10

    I watched it today.

Dark, moody, I definitely see similarities with The Crow. I have to say I started to drift off to sleep a couple of times. It’s way too long - nearly 3 hours. I don’t see why films like this need to be that long. It seems to be a trend recently.
    6.5/10 so I’d say a Spencer Prior/10!

Just seen on Twitter that it’s been mentioned; Andy Appleby is now out of the race

Yep - just seen the same. So, the rumours of Appleby and Ashley being the two bidders was wrong. Looks like we have no bidders, just ‘expressions of interest’. Doesn’t sound very advanced to me. No bids that cover the golden share, doomed.

Imagine you have just been unceremoniously dumped. You go out, its a rubbish night and you are stood on your own waiting for a taxi. You're cold, your shoes are tight,  it's wet....home is 7 or 8 miles away...and tgen you realise you have lost your wallet and you have no charge on your phone.

As you contemplate the long walk home. A big sport car pulls up and it's your ex, with some absolute tool. She nudges him and he grudgingly offers you a lift home.

Do you say 'thanks' and jump in and suffer the awkwardness, shame and ignominy....or say 'I'm good thanks' and set off on the long walk home?

Pride is a very strange thing. Cutting off your nose to spit your face is something we often do because some things we just can't swallow.

Personally I wouldn't accept the lift, but I would welcome Mike with open arms though, but just saying!

I’d have a cheeky slash in his backseat!

Given what's going on i think it's perfectly reasonable to be nervous about any Ashley takeover. The man has an extremely high net worth of which much of it is in liquid cash. He sold Newcastle for 300 million quid and yet he seemingly is unwilling to pay less than a 1/10th of that sale on breaking the gridlock. Even the quote that he's interested in Derby in part to 'have some fun' makes me ducking cringe quite honestly. He's not our saviour and he's losing credibility with me by the day the longer this goes on.

With the state the club is in, Ashley would be the best we could get. Compare him to the fake sheikh or Alonso. At least we know he has money and experience. It could be a lot lot worse. Yes he could have bought us 6 months ago with his wealth, but he’s a businessman who is an expert in this field. I trust he knows what he’s doing. Frustrating for us, but I’d rather Ashley than an unknown who may not have a pot to pee in.

Having thought about it, Ashley can go duck himself. If he really wants the club then he's had more than enough time to sort it out. If he's bargain basement shopping then I don't want him anywhere near us as it highlights what he really thinks of us. I'd rather start all over again, leave Mel with a white elephant that he can't shift and hopefully leads him to living in the gutter and see if we can negotiate with the EFL or National League for a league 2 or conference/conference north slot.

I find it very odd anyone saying they would prefer liquidation and going bust over a takeover. We’re an absolute state, so fair play to anyone wanting to take this mess over. We have pretty much zero assets so if it’s Ashley, brilliant. The club is bigger than any individual.

There is an issue. I emailed the club and received this reply yesterday.

The issue still exists. Doesn’t bode well for a good attendance on Saturday. I’ve tried twice on different cards and it’s failed both times.

that was partly the problem though. As soon as we went 1-0 up we just kept playing the ball between CB's and GK. Blackburn were there for the taking we should have been trying to get the 2nd and even 3rd, and finish the game off 1st half.

I disagree. After we scored we had 2  great opportunities to get another, but through Buchanan’s poor decision making and Lawrence’s miss we didn’t. Morrison had one just wide.  We were controlling the game. So, so poor in the second half.

  16. Awful second half after a very good first half.
A few went into their shells tonight, not happened much this season with the character of this group. A shame.

Poor goal for the equaliser then our game management is poor. Why give further set pieces away trying to play out I’ll never know. We had no answer to their press second half and it was a poor performance.
Honourable mentions for Bird who I thought tried to keep us playing forward, he’s had a very good season. Lawrence poor second half, one of those games. We’ve thrown it away I’m afraid.
