StarterForTen reacted to Kernow in David McGoldrick - joined Notts County
Can you ask your grandkids which team I support? I’ve spent my life thinking I’m a Derby County fan, but if it turns out I’m actually an Ipswich Town fan I’d like to join a different forum sooner rather than later.

This is no way aimed at being a criticism of McGoldrick - I thought he was outstanding last season and a delight to watch most games - but statistically the chances of him repeating last season's goals return next season slim. Perhaps what we need to focus on is having a trio of attacking players (I think we will play 3-4-1-2 next season, especially at home) capable of scoring 50 league goals among them. Didzy might not be the perfect fit for that?

Totally agree. Alfie May is 26 days older than Harry Kane, and Kane doesn't look over the hill to me!

Pinched from the Cheltenham forum.
Derby are precisely one of the clubs where you have to ask “can they afford not to sign May?”
A third season at this level could be disastrous for them. They need to get back to the Championship this time round, and the windfall that brings.
From the EFL on the new tv deal for 2024/25: “According to the existing distribution formula, clubs in the Championship will be approximately 46% better off and 25% in League One and League Two respectively.”
So it could be a £12-15m payday for the promoted sides? How much is League One’s best goal scorer worth when that’s the prize he can win you?
It’s also a lot of money to lose out on if a top club doesn’t sign him and doesn’t get promotion…that’s the risk they have to think about. Can they afford to take that risk?
Age doesn’t matter. Teams like Derby aren’t buying him for the future, they are buying him for one reason only: promotion to the Championship this season.
…………..seems fair comment.

As things stand, as you say, we’re 8 or 9 players lighter than the team that’s just finished seventh so suggesting the manager should walk if we don’t reach the playoffs is a tad premature perhaps?
I hope we recruit well and, if we do, then should be little to fear in this division - other than the clubs that recruit better!

I think it is fair to say over the course of the season Roberts improved and in my opinion would be a good pick up on a free.
Everybody raves about how good Knight, Sibley and Bird are and that we would struggle to keep them, they should have stood out last season in league one, yet all had mediocre seasons. I would get rid of any of them for the right money and allow Warne to go get the players he wants to build a promotion winning side.

I think we might be a better side without him if Warne undertakes the right recruitment. Don’t get me wrong I loved seeing him play but it’s always alarming when you’re over reliant on a single player. I’d rather three players spread out say 18, 15, 10 goals and we become challengers rather than relying on a 35 year old to get 20 goals which I don’t think we would do next season

Blame the refs all you want folks but that was entirely our own (Davies) fault.
The backpass was utterly brainless.
