Change for change's sake, not made obvious beforehand to the casual observer. Can hardly blame people for not knowing there's been a pointless reinterpretation of a rule that was never a problem in the first place

We always play better against teams that like to play football, because we try to play football.
We struggle against those teams that want to rough it up, play act and wrestle their opponents.

I think you're right and it's very difficult to separate the costs of academy and training ground. You might rent less pitches but the building and infrastructure would still be there.
Yes, the academy costs, but it allows a percentage of the whole training facility to be outside of P&S, which benefits the first team as well, because they share all sorts of backroom costs.

Utd aren't going to make the same mistake twice on the trot (ie former club legend with limited managerial experience and/or success). Nevertheless, as with Frank, you couldn't blame him for going if they were daft enough to try it.

An academy is all good when you’re a Premier League side and you can afford it, all the while sending the best talent out to the Championship for experience.
You’re also protected against fellow PL sides stealing your best players.
But in the Championship and below I just don’t see how it’s financially worth it.
Put it this way, if we were in the PL and had Knight, Bird, Sibley and Buchanan come through and we loaned them out to stable Championship clubs, they’d arguably progress more while having a far higher value.
Unless you get lucky with a Jude Bellingham (signed to a pro contract) every few years, an academy is just a financial burden. You can get better value for money just using the academy expense to sign players to develop for the first team.

I’d be tempted to scrap it and create a B team or development team. Can still flood it with youngsters of course but also use it for recruitment of players to develop for the first team.
Over the years we certainly haven’t made the most of it. Or we’ve had good players at U18 level but their progress for whatever reason has stopped there.

It’s not so much that Ed Dawes is wrong. We ‘broke the rules’ so no matter how stupid the rules, how corrupt the system (see QPR, Villa, parachute payments in general) or how unfit an organisation the EFL is, we did deserve to be punished under the current regime.
What irks is the smug, self satisfied, arrogant and sneering tone that exudes from every utterance the man makes (even in a simple tweet). He reminds me of a certain gentleman on here who at least used to reside in Mexico.

So being upfront about it or blatant is a help? Not knowing you have broken any rules because your auditors said it was ok is a hindrance? That’s not how I read our IDC findings.
and reading get off lightly because their owners are super rich? Whereas we get punished more because we are broke?
ok maybe I need to start learning more from this school of logic.

This is the EFL reaping what they sow
Let's not forget that all the original charges against us were dismissed - but the EFL chose to appeal the result.
At that point, they could have just let it go - moved on, and regardless of what the likes of Boro said - could have just pointed at the hearing outcome and say "it was investigated and they were found not guilty". The matter is closed
But no - everything they have chosen to do since then has led to this position, where they let it drag on far too long and they are in danger of setting precedents that have clubs sueing each other as a result.
As many have pointed out above - once you start pulling that thread, where does it end?
This is all on you EFL

If he can prove it was our financial irregularities that prevented them getting to the playoffs; and if he can prove they would have won the semis; and if he can prove that they would have won the final, then he has a great case - otherwise it's notithing more than supposition and conjecture - be lucky to last 5 minutes in front of a competent judge....

owner Steve Gibson’s claim for around £45m is still to be addressed.
They feel Derby’s financial irregularities helped deny them a play-off place in 2019 after the Rams pipped them to the top six by just one point.

Brentford used data analytics to get around FFP. They sold players to get around FFP. As far as I know they are both within the rules and so is selling the stadium and amortising player values.
