I must admit that I didn’t know that Big Ron had gone back to Oxford.  Luckily he’ll be outside our age range now. Bit of a tank.

I would worry more if Warne (and your company) said that he was looking to recruit bad people.
I’m glad Warne is looking to recruit good people. He’s defined in a number of different interviews the type of footballers that he wants to recruit and said that he wants footballers who fit into the dressing room culture and the type of people who would make us proud as fans to have them represent our club apart from, or as well as, having the footballing attributes that he’s seeking to develop the team and its style. He’s said on a number of occasions that he wants and likes leaders in the dressing room - people like Curtis who could never be described as a yes man.
I can’t for the life of me see how any Derby fan could disagree with what he’s said. Or be worried about it. Whether he’s successful in being able to recruit to those standards we wait to see.

Every organisation, including yours I would suspect, will seek to recruit people with the appropriate skills and who will fit into the culture of the organisation, including working with the management team. That doesn’t mean they have to like the management team (or their colleagues) nor does it mean that they won’t challenge the status quo. It does mean that they will do so in the ‘right’ way ie without causing problems. In football parlance without upsetting the dynamics of the dressing room. Christiano Ronaldo might be an example. Great footballer, crap employee that ten Hag moved on as quickly as possible. Can’t blame Warne for seeking to avoid recruiting people who might have that impact.
As to how he does it I have no idea. My bet would be that he starts with the positions he wants to fill, identifies with his recruitment team the possible candidates, checks whether they’re interested in coming to Derby and if they are, hands their agents over to Stephen Pearce to do the deal, or not.  Somewhere in that process he will do two things which we all do when we’re recruiting which is talk to the person concerned informally or formally, and talk to other people in the trade about what the potential employee is like as a character and try to work out whether they’ll fit in, or give up when the going is tough or cause trouble. If you’re in recruitment you must do that every day of the week. I would imagine that Warne is doing a lot of it now.

I am very sorry to see McGoldrick go in some ways. It was an honour to watch his play, he had a great season (his most productive ever) and we fans loved him.
I have to respect his decision to return to his boyhood club and I hope he does as well for them as he did for us.
There was no guarantee that he would repeat his scoring exploits if he had stayed here, and I'd hate if he'd had a poor season by comparison and our fans started to turn on him. I think it's his general ability to read the game we'll find the hardest to replace.
However, there were also times last season when we were a little too reliant on McGoldrick for my liking. Not his fault, but players would pass to him when others might have been better placed. Now they've got to come up with alternative solutions,  like stepping up and scoring more themselves. It's a challenge, but I think we'll rise to it.

To be honest, I am not really worried about who is leaving.
Contracts come to an end. Loan deals come to an end. Players will make their choices.
We don’t want to get reckless and desperate just to hang on to a player or two, regardless of how good they may be. We’d be going back to the same ways that got us here in the first place.
For me, we don’t need impressive individuals. We need signings that will contribute to us being a better, more cohesive, more effective team.
Let’s see who we bring in before we pass judgement.

Perhaps the rules and regulations (including tax rules) forbid the club getting involved in anything other than lending the stadium out for the event. Perhaps Fozzy and his committee decided this is what they wanted to do as his testimonial (not yours or mine). Perhaps they didn’t want to take a financial risk.
Anyway I’m going. And we won’t fill PP anyway - we didn’t fill it for Shaun Barker and we didn’t fill the BBG for Alan Hinton (the biggest testimonial gate in my lifetime) - even though it will be a reasonably competitive game as preseason goes. I would much prefer to watch that than a constructed fun eleven match with joke penalties and 30 substitutions.

I’m going 100%. Will need to see the team after a longish break, give Fozzy a big cheer, really hope Jonny Russel comes .. that would be icing.

couldn’t give a toss if it’s Stoke or an all star 11 from 2014 or mickleover sports. It’s a day out and a chance to acknowledge a loyal and effective player. If it gets turned in to a pre season game for the clubs greater benefit, so what ? All games outside the competition are part of fitness and sport. Fozzy will get some bunce, we get to see a game. Meh, whatever. COYR
