Done the right thing spent another 100 million . would you ??  You can't answer that unless its your money and you'd probably say no

Life events are a fine line , if QPR would of lost or Villa who knows where we'd be now

Like I acknowledged in my comments. Mel got nothing by putting the Club in to Admin. If he had sold the Club 'clean of debt' then in my opinion he would have probably recouped the majority of that £50/100m.  Like you say though - fine lines and what if's.

Morris wanted, what we wanted; Derby County as a Premier League team. What is inexcusable for me is putting us into administration when he still had money in the bank.

He supposeably loved Derby but whats certain he loved his bank balance more, selling Derby the right way may have cost him another £50m - £100m, however he decided to keep that money and flushing us down the drain. If he still had £500m in the bank that money to sell us the right way would've hardly left him with a pot to piss in, left with £300m in the bank my heart bleeds...

This is my view too.  Mel lost £200m of his own money from bad advice and bad buys. That's his fault entirely but at the time, as fans, we mostly enjoyed the ride.

However what was totally unforgivable was putting the Club into Administration.

From the moment he did that not only did we incur the points penalty and certain relegation but the EFL, Boro and Wycombe had us by the short and curly's !! Not my money I admit but as you say if Mel had done 'the right thing' and spent another £50/100m on paying off the creditors etc he could have sold the Club free of debt and probably recouped the majority of that £100m from a 'clean' sale.

Also I do believe that if Mel had had the stomach to take the EFL to court over the backdating and changing of the rules (remember we did nothing illegal) then he/we may well have won. A bit like Leicester have just done with, I see De Marco also involved. The chancer's of Boro etc would then not have jumped on the bandwagon.

  3. Frankly England's performances at these Euros so remind me of what we have seen at Derby over the years. Indeed Warne may have been basing his methodology on the Southgate school of football, ie defensively minded, hard to beat but also hard to watch but got the results.

Also I feel that England are now faced with a similar situation to what Derby saw at the end of the Nigel Clough era. Yet another defensively minded Manager but who accumulated a good and skilful set of players. Enter Steve McClaren and with basically the same squad produced excellent attacking football that was a joy to watch.

Southgate is surely finished now but England have a super squad of players all that is needed is for a 2024 version of McClaren to be found to get the best out of their undoubted skills, especially attacking wise !!

    Any suggestions??

my first winger that got me out of my seat. .

Not sure about 'winger' but he certainly added 'bite' to our midfield. Superb little annoying type of player.

I remember one game at the BBG he actually caught the ball just outside the opposition penalty area (Carlisle ? I think). The ref nor linesman saw it so Willie put the ball down and went on to score !! 🤗🤣🤣

Thanks for the memories Willie. RIP.

    Newcastle 0 Derby County 1, 13 September 1969.

Roy McFarland scored the winner to shut up the Geordies around us yelling about Jimmy Smith.

The significance of the game was that, for the first time in my lifetime, Derby County went top of Division 1 that day.

The following week, we thrashed Tottenham 5-0 at Derby in front of the biggest crowd ever at the Baseball Ground. Everyone of a certain age remembers that game, but the Newcastle one sticks in my mind just as much.

Fantastic day out on the Ramaway. Everybody wearing black and white though and we got in the wrong end. Only found out when Derby scored 😱

  6. October 21 1961.  Derby 2 Liverpool 0.   Mick Hopkinson from 60 yards !! (well it seemed like it from the 'boys' enclosure !!) and Bill Curry. 27000+ at the BBG. Ron Yeats putting Bill Curry into the railings in frustration.

September 24th 1966.  Derby 4 Huddersfield 3  Kevin Hectors home debut. Boy was that some debut !! Despite having 4 opposition trying to mark him he still managed to score and created the space for Durban to score 3. Little did we know then what the next 10 years would hold !!

November 1st 1969.  Derby 4 Liverpool 0. Can still see Hector and O'Hare bearing down on Lawrence in goal at the Ossie End for the fourth goal. 40993 at the BBG.

January 23rd 1971.  Derby 2 Wolves 1.  FA Cup 4th round. 40000+ at the BBG. 6" of mud and John O'Hare chesting in, in the 90th minute !!

Need I go on. Oh those memories.

  7. Watched on Sky

1Wildsmith                     5.5   Not a lot to do but shaky from the off.

    2Wilson                          6      Steady performance

    35Nelson                       7.5    Usual self

    6Cashin                         7       Did well

17Sibley                         7       Tough winger but did well.

    23Ward                          8       Excellent goals

    16Thompson                 6       Energetic as usual

    12Smith                         7.5     Solid performance

    4Hourihane                   6

32Adams                      7.5     Usual self. Good battling performance

27Blackett-Taylor        7.5     Best game in Derby shirt. Lively, looked dangerous.

    14Washington               6

11Méndez-Laing           6       Solid but lacking his early season form

9Collins                         6.5     Physical ands put himself about. Good to see him back.

    10Waghorn                   6

Good performance. Unlucky. Goals offside? and Handball?  Although thought the ref did well.

  8. ATG.

1Wildsmith                         6.5    Did what he had to do well.  Hope he stays.

    2Wilson                              7       Good performance

35Nelson                           8       Back to his best.

    6Cashin                             7.5     Solid

17Sibley                             7        Much better today. Some good corners. Good cross that led to the goal

23Ward                              7       Took 20 minutes but then settled well linking with Wilson.

    10Waghorn                        6

32Adams                           7.5     Super goal. Energetic. Normal service resumed.

12Smith                              7       Added much needed energy and security to midfield.

    4Hourihane                       6

27Blackett-Taylor             7        His best 60 minutes. Lively and looked dangerous at times. More to come.

16Thompson                     6.5     Usual Thompson. Energetic and lively.

11Méndez-Laing               6.5     Did ok but not fully fit to me. Indicated hammy problems again. Hopefully nothing too serious.

22Fornah                           6        Thought he did ok.

14Washington                   4        Clearly not fully fit. Gets extra point for that but for me disappointing. Missed good chance.

9Collins                             6.5      Good to see him back and I thought he did well. Lively and physical. Needed for final 5 games.

They say a week is a long time in football. Was really disappointed seeing them at Northampton but enjoyed yesterday's game. Energy  and effort were back. Defended well. Tactics worked letting them have the ball although as the home team it would have been nice to see more attacking. Great result that's all that matters.

  9. Having been at Northampton on Saturday I am still bitterly disappointed by that performance and not at all confident now about automatics.

Just cannot see us scoring many goals unless CBT comes good and we get Collins back !!

It's alright saying goodie we will have to revert to a back four now but we don't have the defensive full backs available ie Nyambe and Fozzy. Likewise midfield. No creativity. When is Bird back ? Have to drop Hourihane - Smith DM and push Adams forward?

Edge of seat stuff and as I said after the Bolton win - it will go to the last day of the season, it's the Derby way !!

  10. ATG.

1Wildsmith                5.5   Did nothing wrong but looked shaky right from the off.

35Nelson                  5.5   Not his usual self today

5Bradley                   4.5   Still seemed concussed to me. Really shaky. Idiotic sending off in the last minute.

6Cashin                     5.5  Like Nelson just not his usual dominating self.

2Wilson                     5     Seems more effective as a last 30 minute substitute.

32Adams                  5.5  Yet another player who tried but something just not there today. Should have scored.

    12Smith                     5     Steady but ineffective.

4Hourihane               4     Very pedestrian and added little in midfield. Should have been subbed instead of Adams.

17Sibley                     5     Started ok. Made chance for Waghorn but faded badly especially after booking.

20Elder                      5.5   Steady but not effective.

23Ward                      6      Thought he was the best of the Subs and put in some good crosses. Should have started.

10Waghorn                5      Should have scored early on. Tried without any impact.

16Thompson             4.5    Usual energy but no influence at all on the game.

27Blackett-Taylor     5.5    Need more from him

11Méndez-Laing       5       Not his day. Disaster though if he is now injured for any length of time.

14Washington           5.5      Seemed quite lively after a long lay off but no service.

What an opportunity missed against a poor Northampton side who lacked first choice players and were on a bad run of form. A complete no show from the players ( was it the pitch, the wind, the movement of the ball seemed different?) and questionable tactics from the Manager. (what were they ??). Very disappointing.

Stood in the ossie end when we played spurs, record crowd. Couldn't move when watching the match, you can imagine what it was like when we scored 4 goals I think, everyone  just surged forward.

Definitely 5 Kath ~(Unlike us ex Henry Cav to have problems with maths 🤣 Pritchards fault !!)

Also in the Ossie End for that one. Second tier just above the clock. Had to get there at 1 o/c to get front row with my old friend Robin Morris - where are you now Robin ??

I would do Toyota Suite and Directors' Box. It's a bit dearer but it's a very special occasion.

Lovely three course meal with choice of mains and puds.

Free programmes, guest speakers, MOTM presentations afyer the game and the best views in the stadium.

If you're not fussed on the date, some games are cheaper than others.

Wondered if anyone had any up to date tips here.

I have gone a bit OTT and booked hospitality in the Toyota Suite for the Port Vale game as a present for my eldest daughter's birthday. She has been accompanying me to matches as season ticket holders since the early 90"s through tick and thin!!

Presumably you need to arrive between 12 and 1.00 - what time is the meal usually served?

We travel 50 miles from Warwickshire and usually park in Derbion and walk to the ground but on this occasion thought if we parked in car park A or B (which one is better?) near the ground it would be more convenient? Hopefully most of the traffic will have gone by 6.00 when we will probably be leaving. Is that correct?

Any constructive tips or comments would be welcome.  Thanks.

2015 at home . He had a great game . I think we got a last minute penalty if I remember correctly - which Chris Martin stuck away . We all praised the goalie , suprised it took him so long to make it to the big-time .

You are indeed correct Jim.  Chris Martin penalty 90+3. Just watched the You Tube highlights. We had 27 shots oh and Leon Best !! 😱

Unless they continue to find gems like Ivan Toney , valued now at £70+mill. They sold Reya with a year on his contract for £20 mill. A player that had a m o m performance against us for a non league team and we couldn’t spot him . It all looks easy in hindsight.

What non league team would that be Jim. Can't recall that one ?
