One really good block and solid throughout, always wants the ball 3Forsyth. 6.5. Did OK, got one really good chance 4Hourihan 7. Great finish - part of a midfield that controlled the game in parts but lost control in parts 16Thompson. 6 7Barkhuizen. 5.5. Tried hard, couple of poor crosses, not his best game 20Elder 6. 22Fornah 5.5. Tried hard 19Sibley 7. Good closing down, created a few chances, should have played someone in at the end but even there he did well to get into that position. 8Bird. 6.5. 11Méndez-Laing 6.5 19John-Jules 5. Didn't really get into the game, agree with Warne the 2 didn't really work like you'd hope 9Collins 7. Really good finish but again needs to threaten the goal more - it's that balance of closing down while being in tne right place when we do win the ball. Much better than Saturday, goal and assist took the game away from the Imps 35Nelson. 8. Ashford and Simpson again 6Cashin. 8 Ditto, 2nd half chasing down and tackle on Lincoln player epitomised his performance. 3Forsyth. 6.5. Much better from Fozzy 4Hourihan. 7. Far more effective game from the skipper. Class finish for the goal. 16Thompson. 6. Welcome back Liam 7Barkhuizen. 6. Didn't quite grab the opportunity to get ahead of Wilson. 20Elder. 6. No issues, a much needed cover for Fozzy if he can stay fit. 22Fornah. 6. Struggled to make an impression, but no serious errors. 19Sibley. 7. Good cameo. Added bite and drive. Should have either scored or passed at the end though. 8Bird. 6.5. Fought for space in a crowded midfield but was for me always positive. 11Méndez-Laing. 7. Started slowly but terrorised Lincoln LHS in 2nd half. Fine assist. 19John-Jules. 6. Brief appearance, but again showed some quality. 9Collins. 7.5. Goal will do him a world of good and lovely pass for Collins 35Nelson 8.....Defensively splendid 6Cashin 8.5......Brilliant performance in a pretty drab game. Why would you go to a back 5 and shove him on the right when the opposition had caused us zero threat? All it would take is a rubbish right footed pass and a consolation goal for his confidence to be dented. Not worth it to give Elder a few mins 3Forsyth 7.........Really good performance. Lack of options in first half when we were playing our preferred circle formation with no CMs. 4Hourihane 7.......Really good game. Wish he'd stand in midfield and get the ball rather than dropping into defence and getting his binoculars out to look for Bird and Fornah 16Thompson 6 7Barkhuizen 5.5......Not his best game in terms of end product. What's interesting is that when you watch highlights back he's always sprinting to get on the end of things and if often an unused option close to goal when we create chances. 20Elder 6.......glad he's fit. Him and Bird seemed to be trying to play between their defence and midfield......a space of a full 3 yards. Can we start him with Kevin de Bruyne on Boxing Day? 11Méndez-Laing 6.......not his greatest game but the outside of his right boot is becoming a really reliable go-to. Decent goal and some decent defensive headers. Astonishing to think that, after lots of individual and collective inconsistency, we'd be second in the league without the last 5 seconds against Wycombe. Need to rethink what we want to do with him. 2Wilson - 8.5 - Did well at RB, although think we're correct converting him to a winger/wide midfielder as his talents definitely lay in his offensive work. MotM for me. 35Nelson - 8 - Impresses me more and more with each passing game. Absolute rock. 6Cashin - 7.5 - Solid both on and off the ball, formidable when paired with Nelson right now. 3Forsyth - 7 - After a below par performance v Wycombe, normal service resumed. 4Hourihane - 7 - Came alive after he scored and actually started showing for the ball and dropping into the quarterback role. Decent. 16Thompson - 6 7Barkhuizen - 5 - Frustrating. Deserved his start but doesn't use his pace effectively, doesn't look strong enough in 50/50s, and wasteful crossing. 20Elder - 6 22Fornah - 6 - Still think we should play him as the deepest lying midfielder to best utilise his mobility. Playing as an #8 didn't suit him last night. 19Sibley - 7.5 - Big impact. Ball started to stick in the final third more and he linked play neatly. Far better fit as an #8 than Fornah on that showing. 8Bird - 6.5 - Classy as always, issue still being he's on a level higher than some around him which stops him always being effective as we're not playing to his strengths. 11Méndez-Laing - 6.5 - Quick thinking created the 2nd goal. Quiet in open play but they seemed prepared for the wide assault and defended resolutely on the wings. 19John-Jules - 6 9Collins - 7.5 - Great finish, chased and harried all game but didn't do much on the ball due to lack of service. Guest Posted December 22, 2023 Share Posted December 22, 2023 1Wildsmith - 6 23Ward - 5 - he deserves a very low mark for the Groundhog Day stupid tackle alone but was decent coming forward and crossing a threat more often than not 2Wilson - 7.5 - involved, got a goal, great assist for the third 35Nelson - 7.5 - always reliable 6Cashin - 8 - his usual standard plus a couple of standout moments with blocks/tackles 3Forsyth - 6.5 - steady enough 4Hourihane - 6.5 - an extra half-mark for the goal in an otherwise average display... again. Annoying to watch him remain on his knees appealing for a foul he was never going to get while Lincoln cleared their lines. Needs to lead by example and not just with high quality shots! 16Thompson - 6 - great to see him back and should have been played in for a goal chance 7Barkhuizen - 6 - best he's played for a while in my view; lively and close to making things happen, even though no easy tap-ins for him this time 20Elder - 6 22Fornah - 6 - some good, some bad. That's about it for positives for me. Poor opening 10 minutes, better side for the remainder of the 1st half without setting anything alight. Far too many awful passes made when they weren't necessary. Players need to stop trying to conjure up worldy passes that aren't on. Pretty much the same story 2nd half. They started the better side and we took over after the opening 10 minutes. Still not anything to write home about. In both halves we had the odd flurry of quick passes that led to nowt. Ringing the changes improved things but still not to the standards we have seen at times this season. Happy with the result.
