Bob The Badger
I was watching the second season of Guilt last night. Max had a vinyl copy of The Clash's first album, unimaginative called, The Clash. He took it out and clearly and carefully placed the needle on the first track. Ooo, I said to Mrs Badger, Janie Jones! Then Police and Thieves came on, and I was apoplectic. No effing way was that the first track on either side I screamed! I couldn't remember what the first track was on the other side, but I knew it wasn't Police and Thieves. So, I had to stop the program and Google it before I could relax. I'm sure there are one or two of you in here who knew it was Career Opportunities. That's pretty anal, right? Singles with different covers and B SIdes (The Jam did that a few times iirc) and albums with additional tracks. Or even in the case of The Beat, a different name being called The English Beat because of a US band of the same name. Now I'm thinking of all the super rare stuff I gave away, lost or sold for silly money. I had a Jam yellow flexi-dsc single that they only made 250 of and it went to fan club members that I lost. Ah flexi discs. I had a demo of 'Rudy can't fail', which I think had been sellotaped to the front of the NME. Today's pop kids will say we're making it up. cstand, Crewton and Bob The Badger 1
cstand
Used to love looking around record shops years ago especially looking at album covers looking at the Artwork and the tracks listed. When not watching the Rams on a Saturday it was my favourite past time. Crewton, Bob The Badger and AndyinLiverpool

"Tiny black round thing". It was a promo for "Live at Drury Lane" - election special etc. I can still recite it, pretty well word for word. The record company put a load of non-album singles (remember when bands did those) - the aforementioned Clash City Rockers, White Man in Hammersmith Palais, Complete Control, I fought the Law) to 'break America', although by the time of its release in the US, the UK version had sold shedloads as an import to the US. How anal?
Comrade 86
Heartily agree with OP. Googled 'furious' + 'anal' for a suitable gif to express my ire, but sadly the results were not quite what I'd expected. 🙈 GboroRam, Ramslad1992, Anon and 2 others
Bob The Badger
OMFG, it got worse last night. Jake started talking about 'this was the album that many people think heralded the end of punk', and he still had the first album in his hand. Maybe he meant London Calling, I dunno, but their first album did not signal the end of punk. Not that any one album did, anyway. Then he started banging on about the Clash playing a gig on 23rd July 1984 which was the first time he saw them live. I looked it up because that happens to be my birthday, and as we now know, I'm anal af. They never played a gig on that date. They did in 1985, but it was in Athens. Then more mumblings about The Clash selling out to a major label when The Clash was on a ducking major label all the effing time. They signed to CBS from the get-go I'd had enough by then, so I took a sledgehammer to the TV, set fire to the remains and then stormed off to bed to sulk leaving Mrs Badger somewhat perplexed. That's poor when it sounds like such a major dialogue point. It should have been fact checked. Richard Osman tells a nice story about how his publishers have a team of fact checkers that work through the stuff he puts in his novels. In his first book mentions a trip to Waitrose in Tunbridge Wells. Turns out nobody thought to fact check that. Seems like to most Waitrose town you could imagine. And yet apparently there is no Waitrose in Tunbridge Wells, and he ended up being bombarded with letters pointing this out. So I guess people to get anal about all sorts of stuff. And when facts are wrong it spoils the illusion TV, film and novels are trying to create. This stuff is important to get right and any decent production ought to have done much better than you are suggesting they did.
