Great news.

I’d love to see a few of these players integrated into the first team squad and given more than ten minutes to prove themselves.

Premier League sides are blooding youngsters left, right and centre.

It’s not true that they’re ‘too young’.

They’re either good enough or they’re not. And if they’re not, let them learn and try again.

The trouble is, ATM, we are playing catch up, if we want to finish in the top 2. The management will be unwilling to risk putting youngsters in the matchday squads, if it means a senior player misses out, likewise even if they're on the bench because of injuries or suspensions, they will be unwilling to take the slightest risk on missing out on 3 points, just so they can give the youngster a 'try'. Remember Wassall giving the bench a 'try' when 3 nil up in the 83rd minute, a few years back.

If we just miss out on the autos or a play off place, because we lost points through giving youngsters a 'try', do you think that Warne would be excused?

I’d agree if our senior players were infallible but sometimes their tired legs put us at risk where a fresh youngster can apply pressure or test the opposition.

That game under Wassall wasn't from playing youngsters. It was from bringing Thorne and Martin off and bringing Bent and Blackman on.

Still emphasises the point being made. A manager being crucified from all angles for underperforming in the league, is now being asked to play academy players to give them minutes.

If they are good enough they will get their opportunity, 10 mins here and there won't speed that process up.

Chicken and egg. How will you know if they are able to step up if you don't play them? Did you ever watch 'proper' reserve games? You wouldn't have known some of the players were in the first team!

You can't expect every player to suddenly go from only U21 football to 90 minutes in the first team every week. The majority need to be slowly introduced and game time increased over a number of seasons, as long as they continue to develop. This is the standard blueprint used across most Cat 1 clubs.

In their first season, it'll be a fee minutes at the end of league games and maybe a start in a cup. The following season, they may start the odd league game. The next, they'll be fringe first teamers or squad players. Then they'll be a regular starter, then hopefully a key player. Those odd minutes in that first season are their foundation to settling down as quickly as possible for when they are needed in the first team.

Without that exposure in our team, they MUST be loaned out. However, there are a number of problems with that. The first is that without playing in men's football at out club, there is an increased risk in not finding a loaning club at the suitable level. The second major problem is that you're at the mercy of the loaning club to guve them the expected game time. There are also risks with managerial changes, style of play, position used, etc.

If 10 miss here and there aren't important, you have to ask why managers give youth players those minutes. Guardiola is doing it this season woth Oscar Bobb, Cole Palmer last season, Foden before them, etc..

Foden as an example ? An exceptional talent, that doesn't come along very often.

Bobb, signed in 2019 and made his debut in 2023, Cole palmer ? The one he sold to make way for Doku ?

All 3 are exceptional players, but have also progressed at every level including internationals during that period, there are so many more that aren't used because, quite simply they aren't considered good enough (yet). Pep integrates players that he expects to play as well as other established players in his team, not just to give them minutes...hence why Delap for example was loaned out.

Quite simply the majority won't make it, they will be lucky to play at league level. I remember the noise around Stretton for example, the gap between U21 and even Div 1 is massive, yet there was criticism that he was overlooked. So far our best academy product in the last 20 years has been Hughes, along with Hendrick and going back further, Huddlestone, that's 3 in total.

Let them continue their progress for me, give them time and those that are good enough will pull on the shirt in time.

No but the bar is pretty low with some senior players so why not try in some games if we are winning or losing? I’m not saying start them but 20 mins here and there.

Goal 1:  Looked clumsy, possibly 2x scuffs... but I concede it's a small screen and not the best angle, so apologies if I'm wrong. 🤷‍♂️
Goal 2:  All in it together, dogged determination and calm heads all round. 👏
Goal 3:  Any direct hit from a FK gets a thumbs up from me.  👍
Goal 4:  Pure class.  🥂

A very short reel, obviously, but it was enough to impress me!  Great work, lads.  🐏
