Except it cost Clowes company money last season. So I imagine it's the same this. Next season there will most probably less fan income and less broadcasting money. You have to speculate to accumulate. Clowes will want into the Championship asap. The more time it takes the more money it will cost Clowes Developments (are we tax-deductible?).

Losses are deductible, yes.

EFL need to take a long look in the mirror (again) for continuing to let this lot sign players window after window while this nonsense has been going on.

Hope things work out for them but they survived ahead of us while this was going on. Lucky for them and the EFL, I don’t think Derby will be looking for any sort of legal action.

It does seem weird just how restrictive they were with us pre-administration compared to Reading.

I do hope someone decent takes over Reading, it sucks as we all very well know.

So currently costs may be less but we are still losing money, next season if we are still in league 1 we'll lose more than this.

Do you have anything to back this up or is it just a throwaway comment? Genuinely interested as you're not the first that Ive seen say it.

So not worth the paper its written on.

And what about losing more money next season, what have you based that on?

Using the 17/18 and 18/19 seasons as an example (because they're the first set of financials for both leagues I found and can't be bothered to search further), the average accounting loss in L1 was £2m, whilst in the Championship it was £16m. Partially thanks to a scaling back after Covid, average Championship losses in 20/21 were still £7.5m.

I would have thought we might be slightly better off financially next year if still in League One, given some of our higher wages will probably be off the books. Hourihane, Barkhuizen,  Mendez-Laing etc

Also compensation for any  academy grown players leaving at the end of their contracts.

But I'd rather we got promoted and could maybe keep them.

Isn't the Athletic article behind a pay wall?

Its not that I can't be bothered, more the fact that the people writing the articles know no more about DCFC finances than I do.

I think the comment about 'small loss' was in the Athletic writers tweet, which someone screenshot/quoted on a thread on here. I can't remember where.
