It was probably 20 mins before KO iirc, someone said they had gone into the Columbo end and then decided to come to half-way line as less 'lads', I didn't drink pre match back in them days and got in about an hr before KO, hence I can remember more than what happened last month!

I remember this.  I'd left the Grange a little earlier than normal and was literally just making my way along the Popside when about 10 minutes before kick-off they all shouted "the Wednesday".

Initially the terrace parted to see who was friend or foe then quite a few blows were traded.  As you said, the old bill finished up slinging them out and they were marched around the pitch to the away end.  The Colombo end greeted them with various missiles.

Remember getting off the train before this game and seeing some actor from EastEnders (checked and it was Ian Reddington) as he came out of a takeaway near the station.  Turns out he was a Sheff Wed fan and was in the back room at the Grange keeping his head down.

Guessing that was the night it was 3-3, Martin Hodge kept them in it but we lost the replay at Hillsborough to a Paul Warhurst double,

Cheers

League game 13 was a midweek 2 -1 away win at Gillingham who featured a right back soon to be a Derby player - Mel Sage

This was the 5th league win in a row for Derby and temporarily put us 2nd in the table, taking us to 25 points

Reading dropped their first points of the season with a draw. This ended an astonishing run of consecutive victories.

In 1984/85, game 13 was a 2 - 0 away defeat at Rotherham taking us to 18 points

Derby's next game was a home cup match against top league Nottingham Forest in the Milk Cup which Forest won 2-1 in front of a full house at the BBG.

In the league, game 15 was a 1-1 away draw at Rotherham United, Geraint Williams getting a very late equaliser for the Rams.

This took Derby to 26 points, 2 points ahead of our current total.

In 1984/85, Derby lost 3-1 away at Bradford City who were to go on to be champions. A rare Charlie Palmer goal for Derby

That kept us on 21 points, 3 behind our current total

League game 16 was an exciting 3-3 away draw at Brentford with Rob Hindmarch scoring two of the goals

That point put us on 27 points. The good news is that figure is just 2 points more than we have now, the bad news is that we were about to embark on a stunning run of 11 league victories in the next 15 league games plus several FA Cup wins, so here's praying that we can have a similar run now

In 1984/85 game 16 was a 2-2 home draw with Wigan Athletic putting us on 22 points, 3 points less than we have now. The Wigan game was preceded by an embarrassing away defeat to Hartlepool in the first round of the FA Cup

League game 17 was the one that Derby fans from that era will remember.

Do you remember when the vidiprinter brought up the scores and a big score was spelled out in brackets ?

DERBY COUNTY 7 (seven) LINCOLN CITY 0.

The win put us on 30 points, just 2 ahead of where we are now.

1984/85 game 17 was a 3-1 home win against Doncaster Rovers putting us onto 25 points, 3 behind where we are now

Getting confused. Remember going to Gillingham and was the coldest I've ever been at a match but this date was so early in season cant have been then. Did we play them much later in FAC? Also wasnt there something about their fans throwing celery?

January 4th 3rd round of the FA cup, drew 1-1 , you’ll have to wait to see if we won the replay ?.

Ex England international John Gregory sat in the stand, after just being signed for £100,000.

Anyone remember this when the 'Big 5' , Spurs, Arsenal, Man Utd, Liverpool & Everton threatened to breakaway in the 80s.

Weren't they annoyed because in those days league gate receipts were shared between the home and away team ? - that changed around this time I think

Obviously they didn't have to wait too long before the Premier League was born

A few significant changes that have happened to English football since 1985/86

1) The play-offs were first introduced to the English Football League in 1987 and have been staged at the conclusion of every season since.

2) The number of substitutes usable in a competitive match has increased from zero, meaning that teams were reduced if players' injuries could not allow them to play on, to one in 1958; to two out of a possible five in 1988. With the later increases in substitutions allowed, the number of potential substitute players increased to seven. The number of substitutes increased to two plus one (injured goalkeeper) in 1994, to three in 1995; and most recently temporarily increased to five substitutes in 2020 due to Covid and permanently to five in 2022/23.

3) Relegation from Div 4 of the Football League through re-election - No club was voted out in the eight seasons until 1986, after which the system was abandoned in favour of direct promotion between the Football League and the Football Conference

4) In 1992/93 the Premier League was introduced and since then, all common sense in the domestic English football world is disappearing bit by bit

Not one to be pedantic (honest)  but the first substitute in the English league was in 1965. Also there were no substitutes in the 1966 world cup. Always a great trick quiz question when you ask who were subs for the final.
