Blondest Goat
We did have a spell shortly after Cocu got sacked where we looked dangerous every time we had one. Think Shay Given was credited with improving out threat wasnt he? It didn't last though and we have been very poor for ages now. ariotofmyown and jimtastic56 1
Anag Ram
It doesn’t help that we are so poor at heading accurately DublinRam and jimtastic56 1
ramit
Much work yet to be done and that really shouldn't surprise anyone. i will worry if the same problems are recurring 10 games from now. jimtastic56
SSD
After only training together as a group for four/five weeks, I think attacking corners would be one of the last on the training drill list. I'll let them off for now.
rammieib
The Corner set up was the only positive bit of Shay Given coaching for me as yes, we did look threatening under him. Given the fact this season we may win a lot of corners, I’d like to think in training this week we can try something different and be a little more creative? We’ve not seen anything different in a set piece routine since shay given left. Total lack of imagination and creativity. The oppo look at the tape from the last 5 games and know what to expect. If today is anything to go by we’ll see a lot of parked buses this season and the plan will be to hit us on the break. We need to find novel options from set pieces Edited August 6, 2022 by kevinhectoring jimtastic56
Anag Ram
I wouldn’t let Hourihane take them. I’d have him on the edge of the box waiting for the inevitable defensive clearance. Let Knight take the corners. Bwash_Ram

FindernRam
Corners are seriously overrated in this country. The conversion rate across the PL is 3%. Just a waste of training time as an attacking tactic. You'd be better off knocking it back to your goalkeeper and starting the attack again. I'm sure there were plenty of times last season when we went back to the keeper within 5 passes following a corner. hydraulic ram, FindernRam and Carl Sagan 2

The pull back along the floor which is dummied, mass overloading at the back post, 5 players around the GK, three players work a short corner etc Corners especially are the one time during the game that the defensive team are not only properly set up but have everyone back to defend. It’s no wonder the conversion rate is so poor. If you are going to put it in, Everything should be about winning the second ball - a header back across from the back stick for instance because once the ball has bypassed you, everyone including defenders watch the ball, human instinct, you don’t watch a man. This is the opportunity to escape a marker. ramit

From the plethora stats I found there was a team in 17/18 season that hit 10%--West Brom, over double the next best team that season. Get hold of the videos someone. My view when we win a corner....meh! rammieib
Ambitious
We should just go for short corners, mix it up and try and create a better opportunity. Whatever we’re doing now isn’t working. 14 corners and no attempt on goal- in fact I think one led directly to their goal. Carl Sagan
ramit
i think the faster central defender should hang back and the lurker outside the penalty area should ideally be a quick central midfielder who is not shy to take long shots.
