CORNERS

The Corner set up was the only positive bit of Shay Given coaching for me as yes, we did look threatening under him.

Given the fact this season we may win a lot of corners, I’d like to think in training this week we can try something different and be a little more creative?

should try one of these

But why is that a bad corner routine? At least it’s different. We’ve not seen anything different in a set piece routine since shay given left. Total lack of imagination and creativity. The oppo look at the tape from the last 5 games and know what to expect.
If today is anything to go by we’ll see a lot of parked buses this season and the plan will be to hit us on the break. We need to find novel options from set pieces

Probably because the keeper has all the time in the world to catch it completely unchallenged, because all the Forest players are in a different postcode?

There is different and there is crap

I was talking about the routine not the execution  It won’t always work but would love to see us doing something imaginative like that

Corners are seriously overrated in this country. The conversion rate across the PL is 3%.

Just a waste of training time as an attacking tactic. You'd be better off knocking it back to your goalkeeper and starting the attack again.

I'm sure there were plenty of times last season when we went back to the keeper within 5 passes following a corner.

Which is why you need some level of creativity from them. The pull back along the floor which is dummied, mass overloading at the back post, 5 players around the GK, three players work a short corner etc

Corners especially are the one time during the game that the defensive team are not only properly set up but have everyone back to defend. It’s no wonder the conversion rate is so poor.

If you are going to put it in, Everything should be about winning the second ball - a header back across from the back stick for instance because once the ball has bypassed you, everyone including defenders watch the ball, human instinct, you don’t watch a man. This is the opportunity to escape a marker.

Sounds simple, but if the top teams in the world with the best coaches can't do it better than 3 times in a hundred, what chance do we stand?

From the plethora stats I found there was a team in 17/18 season that hit 10%--West Brom, over double the next best team that season. Get hold of the videos someone.

My view when we win a corner....meh!
