Mitrovic chasing 'King Kevin'

Alexander Mitrovic has  currently scored 38 League goals this season for Fulham, who have seven games left to play, including their visit to Pride Park and there is talk of him breaking records.

The most goals scored by a player in an English League season in the past 60 years was 44, achieved by Kevin Hector in Division Four for Bradford Park Avenue in 1965-66, the season before he joined Derby for a then club record fee of £34,000.

King Kev's record has only been surpassed twice since the Second World War;  Derek Dooley scored 46 for Sheffield Wednesday in 1951-52 in Division Two (now called The Championship} and Terry Bly scored an incredible 52 for Peterborough United in 1960-61 in Division Four.

Here's hoping that Mitrovic doesn't reach 44.

I’m missing something here. If it’s been surpassed twice, how is it a record?

Try distinguishing between the last 60 years and since WW2 (77 years ago???). If you can work it out then you won’t be missing something anymore. It’s not too difficult

Did The King do it in less games in that season. 42?

No he played all 46. In fact when he left Bradford aged 21 he had played in the last 166 games consecutively, a record unbroken run for Bradford. He scored 113 League goals in 167 games.

He reached a century of League goals at the age of 21 years and 156 days- only Jimmy Greaves and Dixie Dean reached that milestone when they were younger.

The EFL started 134 years ago and Hector stands at number 27 in the list of highest goal scorers in a career during that time.

It might be worth remembering that our King Kev scored a shed load of goals in the old div 1, at the time the top division in the country.  Mitrovic has scored all his goals in the second tier of English football, he did nothing in the premier league last time Fulham were there.

Now now, everyone knows football was invented in 1992 and talk of any superficially similar sports before that date is entirely coincidental.... ?

Bit like a few years ago they were banging on about goals in consecutive games and Harry Kane breaking the top flight record, totally forgetting someone scoring in 12 straight games for Sheff Utd in the thirties

But he did this for Bradford PA so it's not even our record...

And it's not even a record.

Kevin Hector's record not ours BUT he was our 'King' lest that had escaped you.

And you are Victor Meldrew and I claim my prize ??
