Get the politics out of our game

Tonight an idiot cable ties himself to a goalpost at Everton , same thing tried at arsenal last night failed , , take the knee , booing against blm , support Ukraine , chant abramavich ,

im sick to death of it , it’s not the place for it so get it out  , serious issues are not best served by pampered footballers, managers and showbiz celebs virtue signaling

Unfortunately it's impossible to separate all strands of life into neat little categories that can be dealt with in isolation.

Nope , football used to be 90 mins of pure escape from daily life , turn up and shout your head off and be immersed in the game no matter what was going on in life ??‍♂️, the game has been hijacked first by the money makers now the virtue signallers at worst or those who want to use it as a platform for politics at best ,

look at the chelsea manager having to plead to stop being put on the spot re abramavich , klopp spouting constantly, if you want to constantly spout your politics s Klopp ( non jabbed are the same as drink drivers just one of his gems )then give the football up and stand for election ,

chelsea ? Why punish the fans ? Any income can be frozen and allow fans to buy tickets to watch their team , it not five minutes ago the owner was donating the Stamford bridge hotel for free to help the covid effort ??‍♂️

I’m willing to bet you didn’t read my first post, if you did you would see that I quoted both sides of the argument not having a place on the terraces, taking the knee , booing taking the knee , I am as much against any footballer using the game to promote an anti vax stance ( though who would have the balls to do that on a sky interview )as I am klopp preaching , 

watching reporter s trying to force the chelsea manager to condemn the owner or make a slip he can be vilified for ??‍♂️,

Don't get me wrong, I'd love nothing more than 'pure football' to return, an isolationist 90 minutes once a week, just I'm not sure that's ever existed or hasn't for a very very long time.

There were probably boardroom kerfuffles when the Football League was created.

Barcelona FC were on a list of organisations behind only Communists and Anarchists to be purged by Franco back in the 30's.

Celtic and Rangers entire shared history is based on their political, cultural and religious differences.

The NF actively tried to recruit from the terraces in the 80's.

The Hillsborough cover up and the fight for justice campaign thereafter was political. 

Other than university campuses, the only place I've ever seen the Socialist Worker sold is outside football grounds.

Know any Forest fans who went to any Yorkshire away games during the miners strike?

The game can be 90 minutes of pure escapism if you let it. Just requires you to ignore the noise surrounding it, which granted, is probably louder thanks to 24/7 media coverage now. The game was never pure, I think you're just looking back through the soft focused lens of nostalgia.

But get yersen in the South Stand for our next home game and shout your head off for 90 minutes and tell me you had any worries in the world.

There are two separate issues here. The money men absolutely have ruined football, there’s a whole other thread about it and it’s turning a lot of people off the game (but as long as it’s turning on lots of people in the Far East, it’s all gravy apparently).

Virtue signalling is a very sweeping statement that is border line offensive. Sometimes it’s not virtue signalling, sometimes / most times people actually do feel very strongly about the things they’re talking about.

There is so much money and influence in football, they do owe it to the world to use that money and influence to promote positive messages where they can. I wish they’d do more, to be honest. Then if sue roll is when on the one hand a football club is being sold for billions to make the rich richer, and on the other there are people who could really use those billions. On the one hand they’re sending out a message to help those people, but on the other, their not actually doing anything to help. It would be amazing if football clubs were ran as not for profit charities, and any additional revenue created went back into community projects. But that’s where the money men are ruining it, I think, that’s separate from at least trying to promote positive messages.

All eyes are on football, so it’s going to attract protests of one sort or another. At least this is a ********* with a message, rather than just a ********* running on the pitch for his 5 seconds of fame before getting a lifetime ban.

It’s not new in sport, and it’s not just football. Famously there was that suffragette that sacrificed herself at the horse racing way back when. 

anything with a spotlight on it, and international tv coverage, becomes a powerful public forum to promote a positive message. Then it does coke down to your personal politics as to whether or not the message is positive.

Football became political when money took over. When we let a dodgy Russian oligarch take over Chelsea, and other dodgy rich people take over clubs to try to compete. 

Money has always been a part of football, but the bigger the sums, the bigger the politics gets.

I remember in the 80s having Sunderland fans chanting "Scabs" at us during the miners strike because *some* Derbyshire miners broke the picket

James McLean has been booed by football fans for over 10 years now, purely because he wanted the freedom to not have to wear a poppy.

I agree bits crept in but today it’s just so overwhelming, take the kick it out campaign against racism , that was great and really felt like it was about cleaning house and dealing with racism IN football which was and still is a problem , now it seems like football is being used to preach about issues outside football ,

the problem is we then get the hypocrisy highlighted , Gareth and his boys are fine to pop over to World Cup so is racism worse than homophobia ??‍♂️

There has to come a point surely where you have to stop and wonder, if it's irritating you so much, and causing you to dream up as many arguments as you can as to why you think it's wrong - maybe the problem is you and not football?
