Don't think I've posted in here in months until now.

Those of us, of the middle ground, miss both your intentional and unintentional humour you offer in this thread. I am particularly delighted you are no longer under house arrest.  Hope SWMBO and your own general health are on the uptick.

Cheers.

Having had two weeks of being designated taxi driver, shuttling between Derby, Sheffield and Bristol, house arrest would be a welcome change.

I see that Amazon, great beneficiaries from the COVID restrictions, are closing a couple of warehouses with 1200 jobs at risk. Our socialist friends will be happy with that, given the generally low pay and zero hour contracts these type of operations offer. Perhaps the 1200 could become Nurses?

I guess they should have learned their place, nowt wrong with minimum wage and conditions so strict you have to pee in a bottle when you're desperate.

I have to pee in a bottle and I am self employed. My aim isn’t what it used to be either.

Normally anything positive to do with UK manufacturing would be great news, but this is a very sad reflection of a divided society in my book given the state of everything else.

Sorry, have I missed the link to Coronavirus here?

Are you one-eyed as well as grumpy. British company employing British workers, creating larger profits to pay more tax into the pot, and employ skilled workers on a good wage.  Perhaps we should demand Bentley in these troubled times stop making high end cars, and instead deploy their resources into providing discount car servicing to anyone who has a car with a current resale value of £2k. Or free of charge for anyone with long COVID (to keep it on topic).

Nice to see one of them being kicked out for something non-sexual for a change.

Back in the good old days they used to get booted out for being caught in a vice den in gimp mask and suspenders or some football shirt related toe sucking.  I miss the good old days of the Minister of Fun.

I thought the country was skint and couldn't afford to pay the nurses more, despite the extra workload and risk from working through a pandemic? Looks like there's money enough for some people, however I don't think many nurses will be buying Bentley at the minute.

The Country is skint. However, many businesses is private ownership are thriving, based on quality skills and services. They can pay their workers what they wish, based on growth and profitability. Perhaps, playing Devils Advocate, and following your line of argument we should move more quickly towards privatisation of the NHS so that nurses can reap similar rewards on pay?

Well, they're owned by VW, but they do at least manufacture most of their cars in the UK, that's true. It wasn't all good news for those British workers though :

Profits were also helped by a company-wide restructuring during the pandemic that cut staff by a quarter.

Nice, eh?
