Preseason 2020/21

Few thoughts from that first half:

- Soft free kick goal and Derby County are an iconic duo

- Sheff Utd very well drilled, as you’d expect

- We haven’t looked too bad considering

- Still desperately lacking any creative force

- Shinnie a little redundant in this formation given his skill set. Don’t need him when you have Bird and three centre backs.

- Those naff pink shirts are hard to distinguish in the bright sun.

I dunno. Lots more positives for me than negatives. Some individual errors of course but some bright moments and with a little more composure we might be level. Buchanan has dwelt on the ball a couple of times but looks a decent recruit to the squad. has wheels, can beat a man and is a bit of a target man too. Jack has absolutely worked his socks off and looks so much more like the player we saw under Lampard. Bird picking some lovely passes and Shinnie popping up everywhere. I'm pretty happy with that bar the goal.

You have to think at full strength we will have

Marshall for Roos

Bielik for Evans

Clarke for Forsyth

Lowe for Buchanan (maybe)

Rooney for Shinnie

Lawrence for Holmes

Plus 2 signings.

When do we start - Saturday hmm none of them played yet basically

Not a bad half, let down by a poor defensive structure on a corner. I don't know who cleared it Dutch Mike/Forsyth, but I can't for the life of me understand why we aren't picking up players on the edge of the box. Big Sam kept Bolton in the Premier League off goals like that early in his career. Clearances from corners are always going to be difficult, not many clear the box with any conviction, so it pays to watch the players on the edge of the box. I think it's a really poor goal to concede from a coaching point of view more than anything. I guess they would've highlighted that being the case.

Other than that, I think it's been ok. I don't think Bogle or Buchanan are at all comfortable with playing wing back. You really have to force the issue and play higher up the pitch. It looks more like a back 5 at the moment. Forsyth is playing with fire with his passing, but it's no secret. We knew that was going to be the case. I personally really like Evans at CB. I really think he has the intangibles to grow into that position and get to that next level. He's still got a lot to learn, but he looks very comfortable in that role.

Marriott is playing well, working extremely hard, but lacks assistance. Sibley isn't getting involved as much. Holmes is almost doing too much. It looks a little disjointed in that respect.

All in all, this looks to be a team that is learning. I don't think we have a lot of depth in attacking areas and we don't have much money to sort it out. It's going to cause frustrations for sure this season.

Evans is one of the better players as is Buchanan

Yeah, agree fully. Been shouting the odds about him for a while now as I'm convinced that there's a decent player there if he gets games and a little more confidence. He's been very good today.

Good news is that Marriott is looking very sharp and very fit, Sibley looks a bit off it all in all we don’t look that bad, just need some viagra as we lack penetration. We lack height, pace and width but are very good on the ball, no change there then.

Not played much preseason, him, Holmes and probably a few others need to get minutes in today.
