Remember Dave McKay,, player to manager

Dave McKay? Who he?

I remember Dave Mackay coming to the Baseball Ground to manage a team who had won the toughest League Championship in the world the previous year under the greatest management partnership ever.

He signed two truly great players to strengthen that team still further and won another league title.

Not an easy act to emulate, even for a recent and excellent England great, but you never know!

We need to be sure about the bt sport and bbc side of things with FL. if he's combining these with a top management job like Derby that's too much so that we have to be prepared to walk away if that can't be sorted.

Article in the Times this morning. They don't report on the Rams that much but they must have heard of him...

Frank Lampard should take his first steps into management this week with his appointment as the Derby County manager.
The former England midfielder has to resolve a few contractual issues with the Sky Bet Championship club but the expectation on both sides is that the deal will be completed. Lampard is likely to want his assistant to be his former Chelsea team-mate Jody Morris, who has led Chelsea’s under-18 side to FA Youth Cup triumphs in successive seasons.
Lampard, 39, has been looking for the right opportunity to get into coaching since he retired last year. He was interviewed twice for the vacant managerial position at Ipswich Town and had a conversation with Oxford United in January. He was spotted at Wembley on Monday watching Coventry City beat Exeter City in the Sky Bet League Two play-off final, possibly looking at potential transfer targets.
Chelsea’s all-time top scorer was one of 20 applicants for the Derby post after Gary Rowett left to take charge of Stoke City last week after Derby’s defeat by Fulham in the Championship play-off semi-final. Derby lost at the same stage two years ago, as well as in the final in 2014 as their attempts to return to the top flight have fallen short.
Lampard, who was capped 106 times by England, has been working as a pundit for BT Sport while studying for his Uefa A Licence, which he has now completed. He is scheduled to start work on the Pro Licence in the summer. The A Licence would qualify him to take charge of any professional team below the top tier as well as any youth or reserve side. Chelsea have been assisting Lampard in his studies, granting him frequent access to Cobham to help Morris take sessions in recent months.
He officially retired from playing after 21 years when he left New York City in Major League Soccer in February 2017. Lampard made 649 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 211 goals, and won 11 trophies, including three Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2012. He also won four FA Cups, two League Cups and the Europa League.

How? He left 4 years ago.... and there is now a completely different technical director, manager and coaching team. Very little room for sentiment in football and I don't see why he would be owed favours. Did John Eustace have some sort of unlimited access to Derby Under 23 players for his Kidderminster side?

Very much doubt he has Abramovich on speed dial... no matter how much respect he has at Chelsea for his playing career. Doubt any Chelsea player past or present can phone Roman on his yacht.

Chelsea treat loans like a business... their players will go to the club willing to pay the specified loan fee. If they want £1.5m to loan Kasey Palmer out for the season then the club who pays them £1.5m will get him.

That's where you're wrong though isn't it? Maybe you should do a bit of research.

Exactly my thinking this though. So it isn't a case of the player going to the team with the biggest budget?

There will be a fee in mind and then the player and club needs to be convinced they will get a chance to develop and be attracted to what is essentially a step down. Frank could be vital in being the reason players opt to come to us.

I’ve heard they’re both moving to the flat above the carpet shop in Spondon.

Christine has said having lived in London she is used to the high-life and is hoping the Playhouse and Eagle Centre are as good as the tales she heard in her youth.

Bet he doesn’t.

Brian got in trouble with Sam for that.

Of course that is exactly the same.

He’s a smart guy and he needs to get it exactly right for his own success, he won’t do any more punditry while a manager.
