It's on.

Too soon!

Plus the Championship, as Colin knows only too well, is about being consistent over the entire season. Unlike Cardiff, we had a poor start so are now playing catchup. And with a six point gap we are almost certain to run out of games. If I recall, the most points we have ever won in any season in our history is the 85 from McClaren's first season. Cardiff only need 39 points from their remaining 24 games (1.63 a game) to beat that. The first half of the season they've averaged 2.14.

I think this will be another season of finishing a strong third, but with clear blue water to the top two. It will test the players to enter the playoff fray once more, but that looks to be by far the most likely outcome. The lowest playoff spot will probably be something like 75 points, for which we need 34 from our remaining 24 games which is 1.42 a game when we're averaging 1.86 a game so far and 2.33 a game since we beat the gumps.

Even that last number, our spell of great form, is only marginally ahead of what Cardiff have achieved all season, meaning we would need 32 more games to catch them if both teams continue in the same vein. And there are only 24 games left.

But the other side of the coin is we only have to overtake two teams and are close enough to Bristol City that they are catchable, so what we need is a Cardiff collapse. It's only one team, so it is possible, but Colin's teams rarely implode in the way we need them too.

Beat Cardiff at home and we only need to make up 3 points in the remaining 23 games at a rate of 0.1304347826 points per game. Very possible.

Certainly can't blame the fans for starting to dream at this stage. How sweet it would be to go up, without having to bother with the play-offs. But let's hope the players aren't thinking too far ahead and keep just taking it one game at a time.  in fairness, I trust Rowett to be pragmatic in that regard and not let the players get ahead of themselves.

Seeing as Wolves look all set to claim one of the automatic places, the rest of us are competing for just one. So it's not going to be easy, but with our defence looking so solid at the moment, we've got every reason to be optimistic.

Hi,

Just looking at the fixtures for the rest of the season - entertainingly Wolves play Cardiff on the 7th April , then Wolves play the Rams on the 10th April. Potentially - Wolves could drop 6 points in 3 days.

OR does it suit us best for Wolves to give Cardiff a stuffing ???

Ideally, a Derby win at Wolves is something other teams might not manage !

(That draw at Cardiff is looking a better and better point.....COYR)

Table looks lovely tonight, and all of a sudden from "can we get into the top 6", through "can we consolidate in the top 6", we're looking upwards. Be interesting where we are come January.

Tricky Christmas for Bristol City. They could easily have a dodgy spell.

Not so much for Cardiff. We'll do well to keep pace with them by FA Cup weekend.

You never know in the Championship though. Cardiff aren't all that. Just a well drilled organised outfit grinding out results and ...err...hang on.

Of course they're catchable though, there's 24 games to go. Anything can happen.

I think we should just focus on winning our own matches, we're enough points behind the top 2 that we shouldn't worry about it unless they go on a bad run, we should consolidate playoffs, and see what points we can pick up without the pressure of expectation of top 2. At the start of the year, I'd have been really happy if we'd snuck into 6th.

Over the last 12 games Derby have matched Wolves and have 4 more points than Cardiff - I reckon Cardiff can be caught.

Bolton had been doing well at home until today so that's no gimme. And Preston are in good form.

Got the rub of the green with the goal against hull imo so I believe they're catchable.

As others have said,  Gary has got to keep us from dropping points in so called "winnable " matches.  No more Ipswich or brum at home results!
