I know not every player is Le Tissier but that doesn't seem like a very good record.

Thought I would have a look at our other players that have taken a penalty, not including shoot outs

Bent scored 21/26 (3/4 for us)

Ince scored 7/12 (1/3 for us)

Blackman scored 14/15 (1/1 for us)

Nugent scored 12/16

Vydra  scored 4/6

Russell scored 4/5 (1/2)

Bryson scored 1/2 all for us

Camara scored 1/1

Olsson 0/1

It might be best to keep him there this window. Bringing him back now, especially after signing Nugent would be bad for morale and we'd be left with 4 strikers for one position, 5 if you include Blackman. Nugent has only just signed, Bent has done well in spells this season, whilst the 3 club rule means that Vydra has to stay at least till the end of the reason. I'd love us to broaden our horizons a bit. Martin isn't the only hold up player in the world, just like Wisdom isn't the only right back in the world. No-one heard of the centre back Janssen before Leeds signed up and now he is arguably the best in the division. To make us less predictable, a hold up player would be necessary in the summer, but is ideally quick enough to suit McClaren's pressing game so can spin in behind defenders too, which I think he ultimately wants.

I hope he doesn't return, but i doubt Fulham will take him after his loan expires now, so he will return, and we will see. sadly i see him now as divisive and moody, while i was his biggest fan a few years ago i think he isn't what we need moving forwards, He a good championship player on his day, but i dont think he will make much impact in the Prem should we get there, and surely thats what we should be looking for at this point...

Yep have to agree. Glen Murray, a better player than Martin, struggled in the prem despite being in a free flowing Bournemouth side and a palace side suited to his strengths. Martin is a decent championship striker but when we do eventually reach the prem, we will need to get an upgrade for sure. But the problem is we aren't in the prem so we need someone to help us score the goals to fire us there

Wish we could bring Blackman on just for pens

Derby loanee Chris Martin wants to put the past behind him and focus on his football at Fulham.

The striker has been the subject of a transfer saga as he looked to return to the iPro Stadium to be closer to his family with Rams boss Steve McClaren openly courting him ahead of the transfer window opening.

This led to the 28-year-old being absent from the Whites' squad for the original game at Reading that was abandoned on December 30, earning the ire of Slavisa Jokanovic.

He missed the 2-1 loss to Brighton and 2-1 FA Cup win at Cardiff before he returned to the side against Barnsley, scoring from the penalty spot.

And all he wants to do now is put the past behind him and focus on his game, while putting his family first.

He told GetWestLondon : “I just want to concentrate on football. I need to look after myself and my family. I believe I put them first throughout my career.

“In January, that's been the case. People know there have been discussions. I'm not going to air my dirty laundry in public.

“All I want to do is focus on my football. I want to get over the disappointment of Reading but all players want to get on the pitch and play 90 minutes and I'm fortunate enough that I've managed to do that the last few games.”

Derby have been keen for Martin to return but Fulham and Slavisa Jokanovic have made it crystal clear that he will not return in January. The striker insisted he is happy with that and believes it is reflected in his performances.

He explained: “You never know what can happen in football but the club have made their position very clear and I'm happy with that and it showed in my performance after coming back against Barnsley.

“We'll try and move on, come together as a team. We've got an aim to get into the top six and that's what we're aiming towards.”

He added: “I'm enjoying my football. It's a very good team to play in. There are some great characters in the squad and I've really enjoyed my time here. Hopefully it can continue.

“We believe the play-offs are still possible. We believe it's attainable but we'll have to play even better than what we have done and grind out results.”

Missed off this bit:

Martin also revealed that he held several discussions with Jokanovic and also with the rest of the Fulham squad.

“We had discussions on several occasions. I put my point across and him the same. I've spoken to the lads on several occasions. I want to focus on my football moving forward with the club,” he said.

“After Reading, I want to make an apology to the fans for the performance. I'm here and I'll try and allow my feet to do the talking, although I know it's not the best time to say this. All I want to do is concentrate on my football.”

That mention again of his family. This is about contract length and having a 'home', it always was. He said it when he moved his family to Derby and played the best football of his career. That's why he said a loan was the worst thing for him, because he's been on loan before and he hates it. He's in limbo. From his perspective, if Derby didn't want him, let him go properly so he can set up roots elsewhere.

I'm sure there's some dimension of wanting higher wages, especially since we shipped him out and now we want him back. A bit of extra cash never goes unnoticed. But it has always been about trying to find somewhere he can settle and play his football.

And of course, it certainly sounds like he wants to come back but also sounds like he's resigned to finishing the season with Fulham. That's why we've signed Nugent, and he'll be back in the summer. Unfortunate but it'll have to do.
