Manchester City are making a late and strong bid to sign Derby County wonder boy Will Hughes – and throw him into the title race, [url=http://www.mirror.co.uk/all-about/the%20people]writes the Sunday People..

City chief Roberto Mancini wants to add to his squad and his No.2 David Platt has launched a raid on the Rams for their 17-year-old midfield sensation.

Hughes is already [url=http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/fulham-want-to-sign-chelsea-and-tottenham-1505542]wanted by Arsenal, Tottenham and Fulham who are all sniffing around as Derby wait for a potential £10million bid.

But megabucks City have come in and asked Derby to name their price for Hughes and are keen to land him now.

City are watching the cash with Mancini under orders to balance the books, but they would pay around £7million with add-ons.

That would be good news for Derby’s bank balance, but the bad news is City see Hughes as a capture to play now rather than return him to Pride Park.

Derby’s perfect scenario was to get a deal whereby Hughes would be loaned back to them for the rest of the season.

But City’s needs – and Mancini’s future – will be decided in the next four months and that is why his mission has gone into overdrive. - http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/manchester-city-prepare-7m-bid-1521331

I hate football-rumour-talk.

"Excuse me, we have lots of money and would like to buy one of your players. Can I talk to the manager please?" is what the telephone conversation will go like.

That's not a "raid".

If Man City officials bought some riot gear and dress in all black and robbed Will Hughes at 2am, then that's a raid.

I could launch in to a rant about lots of other words in that article but I'll restrain myself.

Typical Sunday People rubbish - should be taken with the same large piunch of salt that is usually reserved for Daily Express weather 'stories' or Fawaz Al Hasawi Florist tweets.

7M!

Yes, please. 2M to the owners to balance those books. 5M to spend on the team. Top 6 challenge a massive possibility.

Show us the money please Roberto.

This newspaper is such a joke.

Basically they are saying that Mancini's job is under threat and he is planning to save it by buying a 17 year old who has played a handful of Championship games.

Just wish they would go on and explain who's place in the team is under threat...Toure? Garcia? Nasri? Barry?

I don't want Hughes to go, I don't see why he would now. Does he want to play first team football now, or does he just want more money and to be stuck in the reserves for three years? Actually, that's a silly question, but I'd certainly do the former, and I think he's a bright enough lad to not just be in it for the money.

That said, if he were to go, I'd want him to go to a team that has an ethic of good passing football and the same team spirit as Derby, and not one who has money to burn and wants to hog all of the good players. So Chelsea and Man City can n*b off for all I care.

If Man City are signing Hughes to play him in the title race - my money is on united!!

Very good young player, no-where near that standard yet... No chance! 7million + add ons... G'arn then!!

Hughes is already a very very good player at championship level but hes not ready for a top Premier League starting place .
