Derby are adamant that starlet Will Hughes will not be leaving this month despite Manchester City stepping up their interest in the highly-rated midfielder, writes the Sunday People.

Roberto Mancini’s No.2 David Platt went to Brighton last weekend to watch the 17-year-old in action.

And top City scouts were due to run further checks on him yesterday in the East Midlands derby against Nottingham Forest at Pride Park.

City’s presence at Derby’s matches has prompted reports that a £10million offer – thatcould include an Etihad player moving in the opposite direction – will be tabled this month.

But Sunday People Sport understands that Derby consider that figure well short of Hughes’s true value and even a higher bid would be rejected.

Nigel Clough’s side are still in the hunt for the play-offs and want Hughes to help them win promotion.

Id rather cash in on the £10 mill 100%, could buy a quality replacement and improve on other areas with less than half of that. Reminds me of Gilles Barnes when we rejected £6 mill for him and look how that turned out. It jut takes one injury or a run of bad form for that valuation to plumit.

£10,000,000 is a huge amount to say that Fraizer Campbell is rumoured to be going for £650,000!

With that money you could buy a good replacement for Hughes £750,000

A left back £500,000

And a goalscorer £1,750,000 (Billy Sharp)

That's a total spend of £3,000,000, and I think we'd be 4 or 5 places better off with that. Thats a total profit of £7,000,000 + the likes of Tyson, Bailey, Roberts etc should near enough balance out the wages

If we're serious about a play off push next season Clough should be able to spend 6m out of the supposed 10m. Left Back, CB, ST and a new CM.

Clough wants 2 players for every position, so with 2 centre back positions up for grabs, that would theoretically mean 4 players, maybe 5 because of injuries and suspensions.

With Keogh, Barker, Buxton, O'Brien, Gjokaj all there would another CB be necessary? Thats without having the likes of O'Connor and Brayford that could fill in if necessary. Would you go out and spent £1 million a good centre back, and have him sitting on the bench? That sounds like something Leicester City would do!

Barker wont be the same player im afraid 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

I'd say a new CB or a decent prem loan would be needed, although OB is developing nicely so who knows.

Very difficult to know that, Clough handed him a one year contract extention, so he must be confident he's going to be alright, otherwise surely he'd of waited until he was back fully fit before making a choice on whether to extend his contract?

Also, I think OB's distribution is woeful, would rather have Buxton anytime.

We'll have to wait and see. If Barker come back the same player we'll have some CB partnership!

When you guys say we should spend 6 million does that include wages for the players coming in?

A really good player would be 10k plus a high wage for a derby player. That is 520,000 a year so 1.5 million on a contract for 3 years.

6 million

Goalscorer (ie Billy Sharp) 2 million transfer fee + 1.5 million contract = 3.5 million

Left Back (a lower league is likely) 750k and below for transfer fee + 1 million (7k a week) = 1.75 million

That is 5.25 million gone already. Well only if you count wages that would needed to be paid i wasnt sure whether you guys were or not.

Thats the issue. Hughes wont be on more then lets say 3-4k a week after his new deal?
