I think the issue for me would be that should we sell Hughes, our wage bill will be "slightly above budget", therefore we won't have capacity to bring in anything other than Eustace on loan until the end of the season...

E Cellnet point. The time to sell Hughes would be when we are lowering the wage bill by releasing or selling 2-3 fringe players.

If we were to sell Hughes it would be who Clough has got in line to replace him, obviously it would be a difficult job, but we'd need to replace his creative spark, so as said above it will probably be when we've got rid of a few players that are on bigger wages, Davies, Tyson etc and we sell Hughes for £100,000,000

Derby County warn Arsenal and Liverpool they are determined to delay sale of midfield prodigy Will Hughes.

Arsenal and Liverpool have been warned by Derby that young midfielder Will Hughes will not be sold in January.

Derby County’s American owners had a board meeting earlier this month and have vowed to reject any bids for the £4million-rated 17 year-old, even though the Championship club have to raise £1.8m in the new year.

Hughes has emerged as one of the most highly-rated young talents outside the Premier League and been watched frequently by Steve Rowley, Arsenal’s chief scout, this season.

Arsenal have been watching Hughes for 12 months. He came to their attention when he helped Derby’s under-18s defeat them in the FA Youth Cup last season and they see him as firmly one for the future.

Liverpool[url=http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/liverpool/] manager Brendan Rodgers is also keen on Hughes, who became the second-youngest player to feature for the England Under-21s in the friendly against Northern Ireland last month.

But Derby are determined to retain him for the rest of the Championship season as they believe his valuation could double if he continues to improve. It is understood that Manchester City could step up their interest at the end of the season, while other Premier League clubs, including Chelsea, may also come into the running.

Nigel Clough, the Derby manager, said: “I think a few of the big boys are watching him which is a great compliment to him, but we will do everything we can to hang on to him.

“To do what he has done at 17½ just goes to show the potential that he has. If he stays grounded, does not get carried away and does things right for the next 18 months it will set him up for his career.”

Derby are over budget and want to raise nearly £2 million. A likely option is the sale of defender John Brayford, to Cardiff. Brayford, 24, would cost around £1.25 million but the fee and freeing up his wages would allow Derby to meet their target. - [url=http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/derby-county/9759750/Derby-County-warn-Arsenal-and-Liverpool-they-are-determined-to-delay-sale-of-midfield-prodigy-Will-Hughes.html]http://www.telegraph...ill-Hughes.html

Tottenham supremo Daniel Levy is ready to launch a bid and start a Premier League stampede for Derby’s teenage sensation Will Hughes.

But Spurs face a fight with Chelsea and Fulham for the blond bombshell – with Rams chief Nigel Clough braced for offers this week and ready to negotiate the best deal.

Levy is a huge fan of finding the best young players around while they are competitively priced and views Hughes, 17, as a major investment.

Chelsea are also keen to raid Pride Park for Hughes, signing him now and possibly leaving him at Derby. They see him as a first-team starter for them down the line.

Struggling Fulham fancy taking Hughes and blooding him in the Premier League, but the bidding may become too fierce for them.

Derby’s American owners want around £10million for Hughes, a key part of Clough’s push for the top six. He is their biggest asset for years.

However, they may accept less – around £6m plus add-ons – and would be open to a move on that basis if Hughes is loaned back to Derby until May. Former Repton public schoolboy Hughes has been thrust into the limelight and does not even have an agent.

Clough is trying to keep his head focused on playing for Derby and winning promotion, but Premier League interest is intense. - http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/tottenham-transfer-news-spurs-ready-1504330?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

Up to £10m now? And Chelsea who are well known for bringing youngsters through are in the race?

We're open to £6m plus add ons if he's loaned back?

Nice of us to be willing to knock off £4m when we need to raise £1.8m inside the next month. Mighty kind of us.

The Mirror is relentless with it's utter garbage.
