eddie
Never mind 6m plus players, snap their hands off for 6m. Gone are the days when we can afford to resist that sort of money, we could sort out the whole team with it and push on. Hulse, cough, 4m, cough. Hulse was already on the downward slide. robglosta
Hulse was already on the downward slide. The point is that keeping hold of Will, as we did with Hulse, is too big a gamble with an offer of 6m (or 4m) being bandied about. A career threatening injury or a torrid run of form (which can be expected from a young lad) may scupper a level of income which could see a much stronger Rams line up next season. robglosta
we didn't keep hold of Hulse by the way - he decided not to leave Fair point, then the board made the right move in accepting the offer, as they should definitely do if offered 6m+ for Will. He is replaceable.

He is replaceable. I don't think Will Hughes is easily replaceable, but I do think that a serious mount of money in selling him could really strengthen the team where it's needed. ramblur
Either. Who will they be replacing? If they're decent players (known quantities, that is),where will their wages come from? £10k/wk comes to a fair bit over £1.5m over a 3 year contract when you factor in Employers' NIC. How are you quantifying 'known quantities'? I knew of Paul Coutts, he was outstanding value as have been many of Nigel's purchases and would leave plenty for wages. If Nigel signed three players and used a long term loan for a top player we'd be far stonger. You never know, in the following years the board may even open up the purse..
