  1. After my drive up the M6 today, I would say Dave Myers of Hairy Bikers fame.

Day for Dave was today and reportedly 10000-25000 bikers made their way to Barrow in Furness in charitable tribute to Dave.

I started noticing spectators on bridges over the M6 around Staffordshire, then when traffic came to a halt, must've seen 1000 bikes weaving through. It was quite an impressive spectacle.

It was right seedy when I went there about 15 years ago - a bit like Soho in the 1970s/80s - first bar we drank in had a knocking shop in the basement and attractive young students chatting us up to try to tempt us downstairs for a ride on the much older 'attractions'. Lots of 'gentlemen's clubs and so on. Have they cleaned it up at all?

We stumbled across a bar called the Victory, where the bloke assumed we were after that sort of thing and started telling us about the club downstairs where it's €20 to get in,  €10 a beer and €60 a dance. We declined to partake due to combination of price, state of the place (toilet) and wanting to watch CL final.  Think there was another that had been researched called The Royal, but it was thought to be a scam.  There are girls there trying to get you to specific bars to buy them drinks, but they only drink champagne and you get stung for like €150. We took time to speak with the lads that ride the tuktuk bikes and looked after them with tips to see us right.

  3. just got back from a 4 day trip with the boys/lads for a joint-50th birthday, in Riga, Latvia.

Whilst we had a great laugh, and the food and beers were very good, it seemed very pricey, almost topping English prices, and wasn't too special. We found lots of little pockets of bars and restaurants and I was happy with some of the outside sitting areas, it's not a patch on other big cities, such as Prague and Budapest.

I am off to Stalis, Crete next Friday for a week of relaxing Tournament Football watching. I think it's the 8th tournament I've done there.

  4. been listening to the Zutons new album and been very impressed. New Paul Weller album is consistent, nothing amazing, but nothing unbearable. Both mentioned albums have notably good production. I think Nile Rodgers was involved with Zutons album

  5. I forgot to add, the Home International tournament this year is in Leamington Spa in about 6 weeks, and my brother has been selected for Scotland. I'm planning to nip down and watch and have a few beers. See if the groupies have followed them! 😄

I played County level bowls between the age of 16 and 21, and really enjoyed it as a sport. Very skilful game, especially on some outdoor greens (indoor greens are much more predictable!). I stopped playing, and have never returned, as I preferred playing cricket, and the club I was a member of was mainly middle-aged to elderly bowlers. Some great characters, but not the greatest company. I often read it is now a younger man (or women's) sport, and I think it is at a competive level, but my guess is that most clubs are dying on their arses failing to attact young players who want to play club matches. You should give it a go though; nothing not to enjoy.

I've been playing golf and misjudging the pace of greens, with an unweighted but balanced ball for 20 years now! I dread how much it will wreck my head trying to do it with a bowling ball!

  7. Has anyone ever played it?

I've never had a go at it myself.

As some of you know from other threads, in the last couple of years, I have connected (thanks to AncestryDNA) with my biological father and several siblings. My "Dad" is mad on Bowls, and my younger brother plays a pretty high level and is current national Scottish Champion as well as previous European Open champion (https://www.dunfermlinepress.com/news/23724957.lawn-bowls-dunfermline-northerns-daniel-martin-wins-scottish-title/)

When I first met them, I drove over to Rhyl where there was a Under 25s Home Nations tournament  (England v Scotland v Wales v Combined Ireland), it was held indoors and I didn't really expect it to be as "Rock and Roll" as it was. There were fans there, groupies, autograph hunters, legends of the game being given VIP treatment etc.

Every time I've been up to visit them in Dunfermline, there's always been someone coming over to take a selfie and chat about Bowls. I find it really surreal having tried most sports and having never even been given opportunity to try it. The skill level looks impressive and hard to master.

I know the posters here range in location, so wondering if this sport was ever introduced to you.

  8. - Steve McClaren was never given a chance to build his own team at Derby and we will never know how good it could've been. His first spell was a team of Nigel Clough's grafters and a load of freebies and loan (conversions). We signed some favourable deals for players like Thorne, Ince, Bent etc way below market value then. He was sacked before Mel splashed cash. HIs second spell involved a January window in which the likes of De Sart and Nugent were signed. Again he was sacked before spending any cash.

    - Derby fans unrealistic behaviour derailed our season as much as the injuries did in 2015. Fans aggressive behaviour towards players had a massive impact and some players never recovered. IN particular, the Brighton game where 3-0 up at half time, and fans were abusing Derby players cos (I assume) we didn't score more, started the decline as some of our more fragile players bottled it. Hendrick was abused during the game and then beaten up in Derby town centre, Forsyth was threatened on the touchline, many players were screamed at by idiotic fans for only winning 3-0! Had fans "Been more B4" at that stage, we'd have probably been a Premier League mainstay now.

    - Fans treatment of Darren Wassall is a stain on the history of the club. I am still ashamed to this day of the reaction to that Rotherham game.

    - Cameron Jerome was massively underrated and even that late into his career, was a great player. We can only dream of a player that good being in our team right now.

    - Most football fans attending the game don't seem to be able to grasp how much a negative/aggressive vibe impacts the players. Conversely they cannot grasp that it is much harder to lift the team than it is to crush it.

  9. - Ed Dawes is a high quality local radio commentator and critics are ignorant to the standard of local commentary around the country

    - Graham Richards became a bumbling confused and inaccurate local radio commentator for the last few years of his commentary

    - Derby fans have been generally spoilt/blessed over the last 40 years by the sheer quality of coverage provided by BBC Radio Derby

    - Gary Teale was underrated and would easily be our star player right now

    - "Legends" Bobby Davison and Igor Stimac couldn't wait to get away from Derby County and lacked loyalty

A bit of a weird mixture.  Put SASH and the DJ SET in the first one and swop out Kenny and Chesney and it might be ok.   I feel a bit sorry for Peter Cox who has a decent voice, how's it got that bad he's sandwiched between Bucks Fizz and Black Lace. A long way from Pretty Woman and Rocky IV soundtracks.

that's not a timetable/order. It's spread over 2/3 venues/halls over 3 nights, usually 3 acts per Venue, per night. They only release the schedule the week before.

I won't be the only one looking at these lineups and thinking, that sounds absolutely horrific. Would rather go spend the weekend watching cricket.

You can shower if you're the size of Warwick Davis, everyone else will have to turn the bathroom into a wet room.

Everything I've heard about the adult weekends sound worse, rammed, drugs, East 17 rolling out on stage on mobility scooters. Not something I will ever want to experience

    YOU ^^^^

  13. I cannot relate to this, I never go to Butlins when the families/kids are there, and I only go with the boys for a Music Weekender. I've done Minehead and Skeggy, mainly for 80s Weekenders. I have done Oktoberfest, 90s and Bootleg once each too. We go on the Friday morning and leave on the Monday morning and as a group of 10-16 lads, these Adult Music Weekenders are amazing. Our next one is September and we were talking about it last night, excited for the blowout and laughter. If you want a laugh, I recommend them, 5 star they're not, but you can shower, sleep, eat and drink, so what else do you need?

  14. Would I have been the only poster teasing B4 that we never caught Pompey if he was around?

Even though I knew he had some difficulties, I used to enjoy a little ribbing at expense of his optimism, however reading this, it makes me sound like a bully! I don't think there's a regular poster/reader here who didn't love B4's valuation of Rams players! 😄
